Is The Chemo Working? + What’s Next (Ovarian Cancer Stage 3 / 4)

It was a bittersweet visit to the Mayo Clinic this last week as we got some encouraging news, but also learned more about the cancer and what is possibly in store for my future.
While we were up there, I had scans to see how the chemotherapy is working after my first three rounds of paclitaxel & carboplatin. I had a CT scan of my abdomen, chest & pelvis as well as an MRI of my abdomen to get a closer look at my liver.
After my liver biopsy back in July turned out to be pretty inconclusive, we are still trying to confirm if the cancer has in fact metastasized to my liver, lymph nodes and possibly my right ovary. This would put me in Stage 4 instead of Stage 3.
There are still a lot of unknowns, but we have a great team at Mayo Clinic working with us to get answers that could prove critical to figuring out the next steps of my care. For today’s video, we took you along as I went through my appointments and got the results back.
Thanks, as always, for your continued prayers and support.

Why no liver biopsy? That's important!!!! I had my liver biopsy as the CT hid my liver Mets, exploratory surgery found hidden liver tumors!!!!! Some tumors hide or cannot be traced until they become larger. I had the liver wedge removed, in St Louis at Barnes Hospital, after Mayo Clinic missed my liver tumors. I had a second opinion in St Louis, had to drive from Indiana to St Louis. After a year of Mayo messed and missed my liver Mets Thankfully, I got into a great surgeon & the liver wedge removed. Now, after 20 years, I have more liver Mets, but stable. And neck Mets This thyroid cancer jumps through the body through the circulatory system/ lymphs Stay Strong, ask if you can have a liver BX??? Ask them if, when.... The liver is a highly Vascular organ, and a huge filter to the body. Ask and press for questions... Praying for you each day.. God Bless🙏💕

Acts 2 37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

I was diagnosed with stage 4b ovarian cancer in September of 2021. I had three rounds of chemo, a total debulking surgery and then 3 more chemo. I also had some spots that the chemo melted away in my liver and lung. Everything was gone after all these stages. Unfortunately just short of my six months the cancer is back. I was unable to take the PARP inhibitors because it would knock out my white blood cells which would definitely kill me if I got an infection of any kind. Now we are looking for a trial I can get into and if not some other type of chemo. I have prayed and can only put it in Christs hands. God bless you in your journey.

I know those scenes at Mayo well! We were just there a couple weeks ago. My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer 18 months ago and he's been in remission now for over a year with treatment. His lymph nodes have shrunk and the spots on his lungs have disappeared. We know the anxiety waiting for test results and the verdict every 3 months. As the doctor said, take this as a huge win. We've had to learn concentrate on the here and now and not get caught up in the what-if's. It's hard, though, no doubt about it. I am saying a prayer for you two and wishing you all the best outcomes moving forward. Know that you have a lot of people pulling for you. 🥰

Jenny, Many blessings to your dear brother. My father had rectal cancer.....then a colostomy bag for about 30 years...he was a surviver. He was a Boy Scout Leader ( in his senior years) and took the troop up and down the Grand Canyon twice. He rode a Gold Wing Motorcycle all over the USA. and Canada.....done with his colostomy bag. That was with his second wife who accepted everything about him. He had been a home delivery Milkman for 32 years. He lived to a month before his 90th birthday. He was and still is my #1 hero. May God Bless your brother in every way. Sincerely Debbie and Dexter-Dog my tiny rescued Chihuahua companion living a quiet crafty life in southern California. I will add your brother to my prayer list.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💝

I can so empathize with you Jessica.. I too had cancer at a young age (thyroid, at age 31). It also came out of a clear blue sky so I spent a lot of time at first wondering why or how this happened to me, then what it meant about my health for the future, then a lot of years waiting for the axe to fall. But here I am at 53 and recently told that I am 'cured' of thyroid cancer as 20 years has passed. It was such a relief to hear the words, even though I don't give it anywhere near as much thought as I used to. I am so sorry you are on this journey and I wish you the best of luck that your treatments are as successful as mine were, and that you will hear those words also at some point. Hang in there.

Hello, my name is Pam and I am a survivor of stage 3 ovarian cancer. Two years ago this past June I had my cancer surgery and then went through months of chemotherapy. I was devastated and couldn't believe that I had cancer! I never smoked and it didn't run in the family ( I had the genetic testing). One day I was in the shower and my hair started falling out in clumps. I stood there and cried like a baby, then I got out and got MAD, mad at the cancer. I decided to take control and got the scissors and cut all of the rest of my hair off myself. It was like "there cancer, take that)! I felt empowered. I still had my bad days but there were more good than bad. I decided to try to stay positive and I really believe that is key in fighting this terrible desiese. POSITIVITY! I have to be checked regularly up to 5 years. It has been almost 2 and a half. Now I go every 8 months (let my last checkup) not my CT scan, bloodwork and to see my oncologist (I also see my surgeon). I go every 2 months to have my port flushed. My oncologist and surgeon both said that there is no signs of new growth of cancer and that I am doing great and that I am a strong woman. Positivity!!! Also I know God and my parents in heaven were with me through it all! Please stay positive! You can do this! Right the cancer!

It must be such a roundabout of emotions at times for you, but you are helping so many people by telling your story; and the crying is great as it is a letting go release that will help you not absorb those difficult emotions and carry on lugging them around with you in as heavy a way. Crying is a strength. I had a little girl that died at 7 with an I open brain tumor. We were at St. Judes and it was such an amazing place! I always describe it as the most amazing place you will always hope you never HAVE to be. I was scared when we got there, but then I was afraid to be away from there when we went home. I know how you feel. I’ve been fighting Colin cancer that has metastasized to other areas. Two separate rounds of chemo two major surgeries and now just started immuno therapy. You have ups and downs and are always “afraid” to be happy when you hear something positive. It seems never ending. But I’m here, you’re here so it’s a total win as of today. It’s okay to cry and it’s ok not to cry. You do what you feel makes you better. But one thing I can say is no matter how much you invest in finding answers and asking questions it always seem to be “ we don’t know for sure”. Don’t do to much research because everyone is different and just when you think you understand or know what’s going on the wrench is thrown into the gears just to keep it interesting. Best of luck. Hang in there. It’s all temporary and you have a great support in Brian. Prayers and good vibes your way always.

Sending my best wishes. Found your site after your diagnos, since I after my sons death at 24 seems to look for NET related things even though I try not to. However his NET is nothing like yours and we never got the good news you just did in his 4months cancer fight. I hope you’ll continue to get good news and that you get to have as many good days while fighting. I know how exausting it can be to have all this hanging over. Lots of thoughts&hugs/Annica

Hi Jessica and Brian. Wow I am in awe with your video and what you are sharing and going through. I live in Woodbury MN and love the fall. It was nice to see your travel journey...it's so beautiful here. I am praying for you both during this difficult time. 🙏 I have been to the Mayo clinic with my husband in the past when he was dealing with esophageal issues due to acid reflux. They ruled out cancer for now and he had to have surgery to repair the damage but is still dealing with his issues and taking meds for acid reflux. It's a battle we pray for healing and strength. I pray for your healing and strength. Thank you for sharing you journey I love your videos. With love and air hugs. Mary from MN

Jessica, you are a unicorn 🦄. Rare and weird, maybe. 😊 It is so hard to live your life between the appointments, scans and treatments. But I think you guys are doing that so well. In fact, take that as a win, a victory. You said you got a few extra days where you felt like a normal human being (I think). And showing that to your followers can only give hope and positivity. I hope you see and feel that. Love, light and positive vibes being sent your way.💜💜💜

I’ve been watching your journey for a bit now. First, I am so sorry that you are going through this. I battled cancer last year. I went through 16 rounds of chemo, a mastectomy, and 25 rounds of chemo. I also had about a year of infusions to prevent the cancer in the future. I’m also on meds to decrease the risk for the cancer to come back. Oct. 7 marker one year of me being cancer free. As much as your video saddened me, I wanted to drop in as a voice of hope and encouragement. Cancer sucks. Chemo sucks. And life after cancer is a mental mind bomb. BUT there is life after. Stay prayerful and continue to reinforce yourself with scripture. Jeremiah 29:11 was a verse I read almost daily (if not daily). “…plans to prosper you and not to harm you.” Thank you for being so transparent. This is helping a ton of people.

Weird and Rare health stuff= weird and rare miracles too sometimes! 🦄 it's hard to celebrate "wins" when we have unknowns or a lot of further tests/procedures and treatments coming, I know. But celebrate the wins and focus on the things that are going well as much as you can because all we have is right now (not the thing they'll do as the 2nd round, or tomorrow or next week) - Sending you and Brian a BIG huge hug and lots of love 💗💜🤗🤗

I'm a rare one to as I got legions on my liver also while having chemo. my biopsy of them basically said mine have a possibility of becoming cancer.
