Is the DA overplaying its hand in the GNU? 

Yep the ANC has leverage here.

The ANC has a more to lose if this breaks down. They will be heavily punished by voters and eaten alive by EFF and MKP.

But what's the point in trying to work with the ANC if they're already pulling the same crap that put SA in this hole. The agreement said proportional representation. If they can't honer the agreement they signed than they probably can't be honest or trusted with anything (even corruption).

In fact, according to them, the people who created the DA were the people who used to represent the conservative wing of the NP, which was the party of the apartheid regime itself. Obviously, people such as you will have a different view, whether it is your honest opinion or not, based on who you are and your interests. However, me, I am talking about what experts have said, not my opinion.

The GNU may well work but it is essential to get the portfolios right. Ramaphosa has his work cut out to keep his extra parliamentary alliance “satisfied” (on side), he has to also consider the MF and EFF and then he needs to establish an administration that satisfies a diverse business environment where BFF plays a significant role. Tough job! If anyone can step up, it is Ramaphosa. He played significant roles in SA politics before and during the pre-democratic transition, has since transitioned to a capitalist/business man and then got back into politics. Let’s hope he has transitioned to a Mandela like public servant without an international agenda. SA needs him to step up now.

The ANC is still by far the biggest party in SA. Don't worry your beloved DA will be 4th biggest in the next general elections after they show who they really are during this term of what will be a very short lived victory.

Not really sure what is fuelling the DA's arrogance because anyone with a brain can see that their victory is short lived. They act like they have won, far from it in fact. The ANC has made a fatal mistake by associating with the DA whose main aspiration is to maintain the current economic status quo. The South African economy as it is, is simply not sustainable. No economy in the world has ever succeeded whole keeping 90% of its population out of the mainstream economy. It's never happened anywhere in the world.
