i was a big ass fan of GoT i can tell you what happens each season and the names of characters etc and plots. GoT was ruiiineed that fan in me died. still like it but S8 just just killed it ;^^^^^^^;
Binged it this weekend. It’s simply a masterpiece. I seriously can not recommend this enough. I watched the movie 37 years ago when I was 5. This brought back all the feels and nostalgia. My wish is that it does well so Netflix green lights season 2!
100% amazing achievement from all involved. The camera work was so amazing, everything was just so much better then I even thought it would be. Everyone needs to watch this no exception. Deet tore my heart out at the end too. She is such a delicate little thing and this is how she ends up omg it crushed me. there are alot of moments that really got to me but there are just too many to put into words. I was surprised how involved I became.
I saw the movie many times since l was a kid back in the 80s. I loved it. I just re-watched the series for the 2nd time this week. I love it too! Can't wait for season 2 next year to see Jen being born😁👍

All the main characters of the show are basically dead by the time the events of the original Dark Crystal movie take place. And to make it more depressing for you, its by genocide.
They said since they have pretty much all of the props in hand now. Just have to consider a few new props and time for them to write more of the plot and act it out. Looking at about a year and a half, so 2020 Christmast time frame?

a a Will show in second season (if any) how it came to be. Looking at the movie, there is a reason why doors are there in the first place. It’s to prevent podlings turning to dust once essence were depleted. They laughed at the idea of limiting gelflings like livestocks thus using them all at once that we see in the first movie.
True art at its finest. Perfect writing, design, graphics and so much more. I thought for sure someone would mess this up somehow but it stayed true to the original storyline as a prequel. I am so impressed and so in love with this new Netflix series. I hope the world sees this and takes away a little piece of the magic that this series has created.
I was baffled how good this was. Never would I have dared to belief that somebody actually could build upon and even in some regards improve on a fantastic original.
As a huge Henson fan, I loved all of Age of Resistance!! It really felt like the exact magic I felt watching the original movie. I loved the cast, and the puppetry was exactly what I expected and more from the Jim Henson Company! I truly can't wait for the next season!
WE are absolutely getting a second season of the Dark Crystal. The streaming viewer numbers on this series from the first weekend are off the charts. Also, I fully expect they've already started working on Season 2.
@Ameliaxxjaxon while Netflix is notorious for keeping their numbers close to the vest, they have to report their successes. I keep tabs on Tech Crunch and Business Insider. These are the sites they regularly report their hot streaming series to.

Hup was definitely my favorite character. He was so adorable and so protective of Deet. He cracked me up when he got air sick. “Hup want die.” 🤮 I sympathize. Poor Hup. Also loved the Chamberlain.
Dang good series. The people who made this show understand what is most important in making a prequel - honoring the material and sticking to the original playbook.
I've watched this series 7 whole times since it came out!! I've been such a huge fan of the dark crystal and I absolutely love this series and it did it justice and MORE!!!!
Don't take away how the puppeteers worked around making these puppets move. Voices are only a small part of the performance here. The puppeteers should have given more shout out than the voice actors.
I'm a complete newbie to the Dark Crystal. My first exposure was to watch the new series. Now that I have just seen the original film, I'm left wondering why it was ever considered such a classic. I mean, it's kind of a mess by comparison. The new series is WAY better.
Since I grew up watching The Dark Crystal, I was very on guard that they were making Age of Resistance. But then I watched it. The prequel is AMAZING. And exceptionally well done. I'm literally going crazy that I have to wait for season 2, that's how great this show is. They did a GREAT job.
i just finished watched DC:AoR yet again, and came youtube because I need more about this series and while watching this video has made me smile, the mention of season 2 breaks my heart because we're not gonna get it, stupid Netflix ;_;

Movie - Crystal doesn't move and a reflector is used to aim it's light. New series - Mechanical arms raise and lower the crystal and electrical dynamo's charge up crystal in full view via a large opening in the wall... Pretty much the only thing I didn't like, why change that?
Recommend no subtitles for first watch. Too many visual details will be overlooked if you're trying to read. Enjoy the beauty the first time, take notes the second, lol.
Once again - this show isn't specifically for kids, as the original film wasn't. Also Henson's view of children was that they shouldn't have a sanitised and unchallenging existence, they need to be scared and made aware of things that are troubling or difficult to process. It's part of growing up.

It was great. Which is rare. Because messing with the original is risky but no risk, no reward. 👍 (I gotta disagree about Taron Edgerton though lol he's insufferably irritating and I just can't stand him. Luckily, it was only his voice and I almost completely forgot it was him most of the time.👍😂)
Yeah I know what you mean. But I like this better than prequels where you know everyone is gonna be OK. It's kinda cool because I'm always wondering how it will happen.
if you are truly a fan of the Dark Crystal you would know that a prequel would be the preferred route. i mean, what are we gonna watch, a world with no villains where two gelflings are forced to watch their children inbreed in order to keep their race alive? No.
brandon cannon that can be a drag on the show, but I have a feeling that we don’t know the full story. The writers have said there is a lot of room for hope in the story. Whatever that might mean.

everything about it is incredible from the voice acting to the meshing of the phenomenal puppets with more current tech. im blown away (also what the heck is up with simon pegg doing a freakin PERFECT chamberlain?? obviously also a fan XP)
my favourite thing about the voice acting is literally the only one i knew who it was without looking was awkwifina but she just has a distinctive nasal but even her character was great! GOD THEY ALL DID SO GOOD THIS SHOW IS EVERYTHING THE FILM INDUSTRY NEEDS YOU CAN FEEL THE CARE UGH
Never saw the old Movie and had no idea what this is about. Netflix recommended because i love scifi and fantasy. So i gave it a shot and after 5 minutes i already knew i would binge watch the heck out of this. I am done now and this Series is a 10/10 on my imdb list now

The Heretic is my favorite character. He made me laugh so much! I hope he returns in season 2! and poor Deet! I was sobbing bc I want her to be ok. age of resistance is now one of my new favorite shows and im gonna rewatch it again
I do wonder if this is not just a prequel but an alternate timeline. Aughra mentioned in her vision "many possibilities" so perhaps there is multiple ways how the Skeksis are defeated.
Possible, except that Deet sees a vision of Jen plunging the missing shard back into the crystal, So I think it's definitely the same timeline, unless they figure out a way to change things which is certainly possible and if properly done would be a good way of subverting expectations.
You know what? I’ve decided that this time it would actually be a good thing, if this was really a REBOOT! I just love Everybody and Everything in this show- as much as I Love the original movie - that I would absolutely love to see them change the outcome in this series. This...reboot?! Who’s with me? ☺️
If I'm Being Honest: Now That Prequeal Shows just how BIG Thra is, I'm pretty sure there are plenty of places for the Gelfing to hide. So it kind of kills the fact that only two Gelfing to survive, since we now the Gelfing had SEVERAL huge places they can hide, heck they have a ocean on Thra so the Gelfing could have just sailed to somewhere else, or just remain on the sea.
The only complaints I could possibly have with this show are -where’s our Tavronica representation -Naia and Kylan need more screen time -WHERE THE HELL IS AMRI
Yup took me 2 days to watch all of it..i had my kids and hubby asking why I watching kids programme ...i soon told them... I been into fantasy since I was little ...i was 9 when the film came out so. I could not wait.. Now I'm hacked cuz I have to wait for more
A couple things... Stone in the Wood isn't a gelfling clan, it's a village. And Garmin is a GPS product, not a big ol' death beetle. But loving the enthusiasm.
SPOILER: This show made it clear no character was immune to a death when Mira is killed at the beginning. So every time a big action sequence started I was on the edge of my seat. I.E. Hup’s near fatal tumble as Lore climbed the cliffs.
Simon Pegg deserves so much respect and praise for his work as Chamberlain. Not only for getting the voice spot on, but for his delivery of some of Chamberlain's speeches. Chills! As a life long DCrystal fan, this series floors me. Thanks for this review!
It is worth it. Fair warning though, sometimes it can be a little off-putting watching puppets perform action sequences and expressing serious emotion, especially when 95% of the time their Lower halfs are cut off from the screen. But the story is good, the voice acting is good, and the special effects and set design is excellent.
Absolute masterpiece. I saw the movie at the cinema when I was 9 and have been an avid fan ever since. Age of Resistance takes you further into this world that Jim Henson created and just expands it, enhances it, embellishes it, builds on it so perfectly. It's just so well done and so good to see a follow up film series being as good as the original. For me the most curious characters were the Gruenaks which were inhabitants of Thra that we had not been introduced to before. It was a bit brutal and disturbing to learn their fate at the hands of Skektek but I'm kind of hoping that there are a few more still alive and that we learn a bit more about them in series 2.
I was trying to find the original film when I came across the show. I was so confused lol. Too be honest I felt that the first half was dragging, but episode 5 onward is amazing.
i only heard this year about the original movie because of the Age of Resistance trailer, so i i'm not looking at this series with nostalgia eyes. my verdict: it was amazing! it goes to show what a masterpiece people can create when they love something, and not just hire some writers who don't care or know about the franchise (as in Star trek case, for example)
I didn’t like how one character in particular received, essentially, no comeuppance for her actions. If you have a character act that terribly there’s got to be consequences or it’s meaningless.
I also have watched the Dark Crystal when I was young, and now I started to watch the Age of Resistance. I love how well lore, character development, and the plot was intertwined in one season. I also give props to the people still using the puppets, and minimal CGI and connected well with the original movie. But there is a hole in the plot, after all, it is the prequel to the movie, which means that the resistance will take a downturn and that we're gonna watch the slow death of the entire race of gelflings.
I loved this series. I binged watched it when it first came out, then watched the "82 movie, and then watched the series again so I can start making connections. Love Deet, fave character. I have soooooo many theories as to whats gonna happen.
