There’s a huge population of Gelfling all over the Thra. There are huge leaps in population from Age of Resistance to The Dark Crystal and then to Beneath the Dark Crystal.

I have been trying to get people to watch.. and only half succeeding. I'm spreading it everywhere it's my favorite show of all time. I'm advertising it like it's my day job.. because honestly I can't live without like 5 more seasons of this show. I had never even seen the original and I loved this show so much it became my favorite show of all time. I then watched the OG one after. Now I'm FIENDING for more seasons . I keep asking and I'll ask you, what do I need to do to support this series? To show the developers I can't live without them making more seasons and that I'll support them monitarily? Is their like merch I can buy from them that will directly fund future development? Let me know it's a serious question

I find that in film podlings where not completely drained. No electicity was involved just light from crystal. But that may be update so crystal is not damaged. But it is nicely done 10 hours except i saw no left to right eye movement and in film there was.

Did you watch the bonus episode the dark crystal calls ? All about the making of the series. Was an awe inspiring thing to see ! They talked about how they modelled every plant and piece of scenery on the original drawings and samples. And had an epic team on the whole job. They certainly didn't skimp on details and it really showed through in the series. Just loved the whole thing it was awesome and was so much more special after seeing the making of it and the work that went into it and by whom

I think that's exactly why she is the one to be darkened. It's a corruption of innocence. As you said the "lively, beautiful, gentle spirit" is the complete opposite of The Darkening, so she's the perfect foil.

Thra is probably mentioned in the original narration at the start of the movie, tho it could be we mostly know it from the book that came out just after the movie, called "the world of the dark crystal" it was a small run in super large format hardback (worth a little bit these days) other story's came after, books and comics ect. Its more implied that the orrery of aughra was built for her that stated, iirc. Plus originally it was supposed to be built for her by the UrSkeks the original race that arrived on Thra by traveling thru the crystal. They were kind beings but their vanity got the better of them when they believed they could purge themselves of the darkness they had inside. Hence the division into skeksis and uru (mistics)

I was enraged with such stupidity. They had ALL gelflings from Thra around the skeksis, but they managed to escape anyway.i think that Mother Aughra wouldn't ler them do that, as she's friends to the mystics and they would die/dissappear forever If the skeksis were killed, but its not clear why they let the skeksis escape.

@@karon8112 Well the point was they wantes to unify them with the Mystics. That was the goal from the beginning and they kinda made a promise to do so. Since murdering a skeksi murders an innocent, which goes against their values heavily. It could've been written better though.

I think it was hinting at it Rian being Jin’s father.

It's not the wrong crystal shard, it's just that it can only work if you do it at the same time as the third conjunction. So I assume we'll have a terribly depressing moment in season 2 when Rian will try to reunite the crystal only to realise it won't work until several decades from then!

Heck, even after they admit to draining Gelfling essence, she's still siding with them and trying to negotiate with them as if there is nothing wrong it. Double heck, even when she's imprisoned by the Skeksis, she's like "If we negotiated with them, everything would have been way better".

I know. That could've been a great Darth Vader-like subplot for Seladon. She insists that the Skeksis are the benevolent rulers as they were once believed to be. Come the big battle, and Rian prepares to strike SkekVar, but Seladon steps in and uses a sword to amputate Rian's arm, destroying the Dual Glaive in the process. The Skeksis laugh and celebrate as Seladon begins massacring some of the the shocked and truly heartbroken Gelflings, including Rian, Brea, Deet, Gurjin, Maudra Fara, Maudra Argot, and Onica and Cadia, while the cackling SkekSo reveals the true power of the Darkening. Meanwhile, SkekGra and UrGoh feel the Gelflings' massacre and collapse in depression before committing suicide. The other Gelflings flee in terror before she can kill them next as all of Thra becomes infected by the Darkening. With the Skeksis having won the battle with the help of a delusional, treasonous Gelfling, Seladon is treated as an honorary Skeksis and declares, "Anyone who dares to oppose or even question the lords of the Crystal of Truth will be labelled as traitors and will be captured and executed, immediately and without hesitation. All hail the good and mighty Emperor of the Skeksis," as she bows to the Skeksis. In a twisted "pet the dog" moment, the Skeksis return the bow. Then, SkekTek emerges and triumphantly reveals the Garthim: "A job well done. You taught those little scum-buckets a lesson, with more than a little help from ol' Seladon here. But the Gelflings' humiliation will not stop there. No, no. For I have invented the next big thing on Thra. Something that will no doubt wipe out the rest of those pests and lead us to rule over all that was once green and good for all eternity. I simply mixed Gruenaks and Arathim. My fellow Skeksis, I present to you, THE GARTHIM!" The end.

I'd imagine they will have them in exile somewhere else so the ending of the show isn't totally depressing. Plus if only Kira and Jen are only two left it will take forever for their race to repopulate the planet and have undesireable amounts of inbreeding. No one wants to see that.

I wouldn't praise a prequel before its end. We have only seen seasons one, and tbh i don't know how the future of the series will be, but we know how Thra's future will be and It leaves no space for a good ending... Not even a bittersweet one since every gelfling we meet on the series will die.

There were gelfling slaves that were still alive. Very few though. And they needed gelfling to supplement their life force. They were still being hunted. So, there are some hidden. And some may have fled their lands.

I disagree, having the heros fail, anf fail horribly, is some of the best drama of all time...because that almosy never happens.

If you notice, at the end Aughra wears the clothes she had on in the movie. Her image in the crystal may have been a “fortune” that she was going to die and she needed to complete her task

Why is animation and puppetry underappreciated?

It's not selfish to not commit suicide. And well just because they're not from there doesn't mean they can't coexist without being assholes. The whole point was that they accidentally split up into the skeksis and mystics so it's not the fault of the original units (can't spell their names, Urgskeks? I forget).

It's no more the Mystics fault then it is the Skeksis. Want to blame anyone, blame the Urskeks. They pretty much did this and corrupted Thra for over 1000 yrs. I feel bad for both of their counterparts, the Skeksis AND the Mystics. They just wanted to survive and exist like any other species. In fact I feel even worse for the Skeksis who were the "bad side" and had to deal with their dying and corrupted bodies.

By definition there is no other way but for them to be obsessed with their own mortality considering they cannot procreate the way the gelflings do. As a human being I can safely say when the time comes it will ease my mind knowing they're still a piece of me in the world. Theoretically as storylines go it makes sense for them to be obsessed with morality and go in that direction but the fact of the matter is they know without sacrificing themselves and not ever becoming whole the gelflings are destined to genocide leaving only two remaining gelflings in the end to procreate the entire planet. And even they know it's a long shot. The fact that once the gelflings discover the mystics and the skeksis are linked together they dont just out right murder the mystics shows how unselfish the gelflings are in the face of genocide near the end. I bet in the future seasons they prob hid from skeksis and gelfling alike... i maybe wrong but we shall see. The fact the gelflings sacrificed so much just to exist. And all the mystics and the skeksis not even a fraction of the gelflings didn't sacrifice shit in comparison. Even though they are solely responsible for it all aside from the witch. If that's not selfish I don't know what is. And I think it's fitting the old witch hag sacrificed herself for the gelflings. Since it's mostly her fault along with the urskeks skeksis and Mystics all four equally guilty in their own right of selfishness. The moment the crystal was messed with was the moment all four of them should have been Damned. The three versions and the witch. No one but the gelflings should have responsibility over the crystal. Just like no one should have control over a nation except the people of that Nation equally. the government should always work for and by the people. that's what it would mean for the gelflings to have control of the Crystal. In my opinion.... So if you really want to get down to it when the witch wanted to step aside for selfish reasons she should have given it to them. If we really want someone to blame she is the first and most responsible being for it. So in the end the only character in my mind that is a bigger piece of shit and selfish coward is the witch whatever her name is. Agra if memory serves correctly. Js y'all can agree to disagree but I'm very harsh and blunt and I call it like I see it.

As long as their counterparts try to attain immortality they will continue to live on while they watch the true remnants of morality of Thra be murdered for the sake of that immortality that in itself is an abomination. Granted the creative beings we are explains why in some storylines you also get immortality with the wish to attain morality. And since they try to exhibit that factor for the Mystics and still don't sacrifice themselves in the end it proves they are selfish cowards. All except the Archer of course. It is the fundamental concept of humanity which is why in so many storylines throughout history even religiously humanity is always linked to morality for a reason. And in the end when the gelflings are all gone both counterparts are going to die anyways. They would sacrifice the whole world and in the end die anyways....
