I fly fpv for several years. I now have the av2. It’s great at what it does. For a grand it’s pretty damn awesome. What has brought the most joy is that anyone can fly this drone. Therefore, it’s allowed my family and friends to give it a try over all my home built racers etc. I think DJI along with this drone has opened the door to the fpv sport now.
Having a blast with mine. This is my first experience flying FPV. It's a heck of a lot of fun and will give me even more options when doing cinematics.
so if I never flown a drone before and suck at joystick type controllers (like video games) would I be able to use this easily with just the Motion 3 controller? thanks
@@georgebarbero4743 I've found flying with the motion controller easy and intuitive. Your first battery or two should be flown in beginner mode, as this keeps the drone close and moving slowly.
The zoomed in field of view on the passthrough is done on purpose. DJI does not want people walking around with the goggles and be liable for accidents. For me it allows me to adjust stuff on the drone after putting the goggles on.
Tbh this drone is perfect for what it is. It's a perfect travel fpv drone that is very capable of getting nice and easy fpv footage. Super easy to get in the air nice and quick and has a panic button for peace of mind. Mix this with the mini 4 and the pocket 3 and you have a powerhouse content creation kit with a super small footprint. Cheers.
Hi there, and thank you for the video! To everyone else in this comments section, I think that I may be a bit crazy. I went from not flying any drones (aside of a few times in the past) to buying all new gear associated with the Mini 4 Pro and the Avata 2! On first flight with the Mini 4 Pro, I loved it. I recorded beautiful video of the six flights that I took and only used ONE battery (with probably 40% left at the end). Yes the flights were short, but I wanted experience with take off and landing as a focus of my first flights. Next up, the Avata 2 has arrived with the Goggles 3 and the new Motion Controller. I will need to do my own learning around the drone, and will need to take the FAA test (I’m in the US). But otherwise I’m ready to go. I’m curious about the Goggles 3 and the Motion Controller, neither of which I have used so far, but from all of the videos that I’ve been seeing, they are apparently well liked by all. We will see how it all goes.
I have both avata 1and 2 and the controllers are now compatible. It also true that the avata 2 is more fragile than the original. I had a catastrophic crash and I had to use my care refresh. The original avata would had survived the crash. I love the avata 2 though 🤗
Hey, I fly the Mini 3 & 4 Pro, and ordered an A-2 that should be here next week. Since they made the goggles compatible with the Mini 4 Pro, I wanted the FPV experience but since it all works in CI mode, will try both of them tomorrow what she goes off to work afain.
I own the mini 4 pro and the only reason I bought the avata was for the goggles 3 and motion 3. They work with the mini 4 pro. The fact it was only a couple hundred more for the avata 2 is why I bought the whole package. The mini 4 pro imho is awesome for cinematic video and the avata 2 more for fun/fpv video 😎
I'm hopeful that this lack of backwards compatibility is just a temporary marketing stunt. Many websites are listing drone only purchases as being available May 1st. I'm hopeful this hints at some sort of firmware unlock to expand compatibility. But DJI has a famous level of contempt for the hardcore FPV community and their suggestions. So we shall see.
Magenta look yes. I noticed a purple tinge right away. I got mine just to test the G3's and O4 before the air unit release in september. It flies like a brick compared to my self built ones but I actually don't mind it and it is very smooth.
Maybe buy some parts and do a slow build over the next 6 months till the o4 air unit is out. I have a real tidy build planned for the o4 release because betaflight 4.5 became available a day ago and has a ton of new features.
I'm looking for a DJI drone to get aerial photos while I'm out camping. I've read that other drones from DJI would be a bit better for this, but I would also like to just cruise around having fun in the FPV goggles. I'm by no means a photographer, not even a hobbiest. I just want something to get some decent/nice photos of gorges, forests, mountains, etc. Is the Avata 2 the best drone for this?
If a person is buying this as their first drone ever, and later wants to build a drone from parts, will the DJI headset and controllers be usable in a custom build?
So at present, no (i don’t think) however in the past the goggles (previous versions) have been able to work with camera and vtx systems from dji that you can fit on a custom drone. There’s been a compatibility update recently for these goggles but not sure whether this feature is there yet. Controller, no. Unfortunately not
where in UK can you fly it? I imagine it will get a bit boring after flying around a few trees and open fields. It will end up getting very little use. Can you fly in and out of a house slowly and then speed it up for property tour videos?
You would need A2 cofc to be able to fly close to people and bldgs. The distance is reduced to 0m, but you cannot overfly people. I would image dozens of people will use this for ‘fpv flythrough’ videos, but they will all look the same. People will fly indoors in normal mode as manual is a nightmare indoors. Expect to see an explosion of people offering fpv flythrough videos just as everyone with a mini drone are suddenly aerial photographers.
I have the original DJI FPV and bought the Avata 1 because I could use my existing controllers and goggles V2. I was hoping I could just buy the Avata 2 and do the same, but no. I’m still looking to buy the Avata 2, I’ll just have to sell my old one. Oh well. 🤷🏼♂️ That’s for posting this.
What is your experience with the Goggles external cameras? I noticed that in 2D mode only the right camera is being used and the focus is only sharp only for a couple of meters, more than that the image is not sharp and not too usable. In 3D the second camera is added, creating a nice effect but focus for a longer distance is the same issue. Thx
I initially considered RealView as gimmicky, but I found myself using it all the time - whether to adjust something, quickly glimpse at something, or grab the controller next to me after adjusting my goggles. It's definitely not a great implementation, but still very practical instead of removing my goggles and having to readjust them.
What I noticed is that for close distance it is fine and usable but more that a few meter the focus is bad not sure if this is a problem with my goggles or this how it is for everyone else
Never really wanted an FPV drone as I always figured you could never fly it alone (legally) and therefore flying opportunities would be few and far between. I see you always have Sam with you in your Avata vids. Now waiting for the Mini 5 Pro to come out I think. That's probably going to be my next drone. The sub 250g wait is just too useful not to have it and the camera is getting so good (the Mini 3 Pro is almost good enough). Enjoyed watching the vid though. Thanks.
Got a full video on rates on the channel. It’s for the Avata and not the Avata 2 but i’m currently using the same rates and it’ll help you understand everything
Use a simulator, manual mode is very hard. I have many hours on camera drones and it all meant nothing in the world of FPV flight. I have personally tested the FPV3 with TrypFPV and DRL Simulator.
So you can connect DJI goggles to the O3 unit and fit that in to a home built drone (or anything) however the new goggles aren’t yet compatible with that at the moment. The controller is a no (as far as i’m aware)
I have a question. Actually, I can not decide between Avata 2 and mini 4 pro. I don’t want it just for fun, to earn some extra money as well. And I can not afford to buy them both. Can you help me decide?
Hey, I’ve got both and they are very different. Got the mini for taking pictures of the family camping and on outdoor adventures then wanted an fpv. The Avata is much more fun to fly but that’s about it. For me if you like flying, get the Avata. The mini is better at actually taking pictures or cinematic video. Got to decide what you need it for.
Range seems to be okay, i got got a fair bit of frame dropout yesterday when flying but it was quite thick forest. If you lost RC connection, it would go in to return to home (unless you had set it up differently) but you wouldn’t want that in a forest. What i’ve done is set it to turn motors off with a button and the. You can just go retrieve it
Hi! with A2, can you put you camera in zenithal when you are in manual mode (stabilized)? as if you want to take pics like that? just wondering to give it different uses... Thanks!!
Still waiting for DJI to relase googles and controler firmware update to make it compatible with Air unit O3, I'd love to get the new avata 2 as it has way longer flight time than my current FPV drones that have O3 on it, but i don't want to have to carry 2 goggles and 2 controllers everywhere i go.
Well, turns out they have just made the everything cross compatible in terms of the avata and avata 2... so may want to check now, you may be in luck or they may be close to doing exactly what you want
@@DannyBlighoh ok I tried to order them and they’re not available from anywhere including DJI so I just assumed they aren’t released yet, where dis you get them ? 👍
I still fly the dji fpv I would like to purchase the avata 2 for the googles I intend to buy the RC 3 to fly manual, but I still need a fast fpv drone compatible with this set for fast Landscape shoots and something that has leveld mode sometimes I need to take off and land from tricky places up in the mountains
02:03 c'mon, that is the same as if you are driving your car at 60 mph , brake 10 mts before the obstacle and blame the abs brakes because it did not avoid the crash. 😊
Seen several issues with possible tumbling... weather has been horrible here, so I won't be able to put it thru it's paces until Monday to see for myself. I'm a lil worried tho
@DannyBligh see what you can get outta yours and let me know please. Not sure if it's something a firmware update can fix with flight parameters, but I am a lil worried now...
Entirely depends on how you fly it and what mode you use, how much wind there is, air temp. But around 20 mins. If you fly smoothly in no wind it’ll last longer than flying full speed in to the wind
How far have you flown it in manual and did you notice any loss of video transmission? Currently learning manual in the sim before I take it to Iceland and wonder if you can dive things like waterfalls or down mountains without it cutting out, I remember the first one was dire for that
‘120m’ 👀 no loss yet or even lag regardless of distance however I haven’t gone a stupid distance. But obviously if you’re trying to penetrate the ground with the signal, you may hit problems regardless
If your video receiver is on one side of the mountain and your transmitter on the other side, you could be flying analog at 500 mhz with 5W of power and you'd still lose signal ...
Hi All I am thinking of buying this to add to my collection lol but does anyone know if I buy the rc3 to fly the Avata 2 does it support Mode 4 only asking Because it's the only Mode I ever got used to when learning to fly Fpv. Thanks
You think because of high price it have better programs built in I have what you call turtle 🐢 switch if drops up side down flip switch uprights it's self can carry on but with this one you got long walk
This "Easy accro mode" is something I don't understand. Does it really feel good to press a button and have some flip without actually doing it by your own? Thanks for the remark on the irreparability of the Avata 2s prop guard. Looks like boosting Care Express sales. Wonder what a repair by DJI would cost.
Well it’s easier for people who are new to it 🤷🏻♂️ i personally love flying in manual mode but it’s a huge help to those who are beginners. I’m going to take a guess, around the £200 mark. I wrote off my Avata last year and they were going to charge me for a replacement at £255 (or close as) but i have refresh so i paid my £45 and case closed. But who knows, i’ll keep you updated 😉😂
Some of the footage looks jerky. Does it look that way in the goggles screen or because of post production processing. Is the motion controller not as smooth as regular controller. I don't care about recording, I want the best image and smoothness.
So anything in this video that is from the goggles don’t worry about, it always looks worse there. You can smooth it out more in post but i never feel the need. And these maybe 2/3 clips in here where there’s a small vibration as i’d crashed it on a flight and chipped a prop and didn’t have any spares
I think reviewers are mostly liars, it is better than avata 1 but it is nowhere near a proper cinewhoop. I got one, I was about to buy a DJI mini 4 for photos but thought since I fly FPV I might as well get the avata 2 for photos.
DJI is not banned in the US at this time and if it is in the future, it will be for getting new product FCC approved, would not affect anything you already own.
