Great video! You were actually both right. The quickest way is a mix of the two routes. c2c to West Ham then District to Whitechapel for the Elizabeth line.

The voices on the overground are the same as on the Elizabeth line. I would go with Jens route not only because I love to ride on the new line, but also because it is easy to remember and do not have to do many changes. In other words, i usually go with the easiest route to remember, even if it takes 2 min longer FYI: The announcements will play from my experience at these occasions: Just after the train opens its doors at a station Just after the train starts moving Just before the train arrives at the staion

You could do a very similar race from Barking into the city, where once again you have the choice of c2c + Tube, or Overground + Crossrail, and I reckon that would also be a very close race! Thanks for the video Jen, brilliant as always!

The only thing that differentiates what you and your friend are doing from classic “Top Gear” is you’re not sniping each other via phone.

With racing the Elizabeth line against other routes, everybody seems to focus on journeys within the greater London area- for me the untapped potential is for making cross country connections from points in Kent to the GW mainline and the WCML... an example of this might be Watford Junction (serving as a proxy for all WCML stations further north) to Gravesend (serving as a proxy for stations further into Kent)

Last time my wife and I were in London, there was an issue on the Central Line and the Purple Train saved us a complicated Tube journey to Tottenham Court Road 😊

The thing with the Elizabeth line is that the stations seem so huge that it takes so long to walk around them, that any gains from using the new trains seem to be completely wiped out!

Thurrock Council who are still bankrupt wants the Elizabeth Line to extend to Kent and to form a loop as shown on some websites and blogs. I have been to Upminster and have rode on the new London Overground Class 710. Plus c2c are expected to introduce the Class 720/6 Aventras from later this year.

There is no competing with the c2c against the Elizabeth line getting into London You can get a train from Upminster to Fenchurch in just over 20min. Then Walk to Tower Hill or Aldgate or change before at West Ham where you can go District to Mile End then just walk across the platform to get on the central Line. The options are many, but the Elizabeth line is limited until you get all the way to Whitechapel.

Really good fun to watch - my local station is on the Elizabeth line and have also done the Upminster to Romford journey many times.

I live in Upminster and have concluded every variation is all much of a muchness. Sometimes c2c goes direct to Liverpool Street, other times you can connect with a fast Greater Anglia train from Romford 2 minutes after arriving on the Overground from Upminster, you could also change at West Ham and either connect to the Lizzie Line at Stratford or Whitechapel. Personally I’m quite lazy though Jen, so prefer just sitting on a Lizzie Line train from Romford all the way and reading a book 🤣 great video

I often have to travel from Marylebone to Woolwich when I visit my son. There are several combinations of lines I can take to do this journey but I have found the one with the shortest changes is Bakerloo to Baker Street, Jubilee to Canning Town and DLR to Woolwich. I would love to see you trying this journey meeting at the DLR station as, for me, this is the closer station to where I need to get. The timings for all the journeys are pretty similar and, of course, partly depend on how long the wait time is at each station.

That's a long walk from Euston Bank Branch to Euston Charing Cross Branch, it's probably easier to go in and out of Camden Town

Literally sat up from what I was doing midway, holy crap that was one hell of a race! 😂

The Overground leg definitely was what delayed the time for Jen - and every stop on the purple train from Romford takes longer than people think. Even with the Northern Line double diversion Lorna got delayed by, could have also been Monument to Embankment and up to Tottenham Court Road as another diversion out of Bank (as the DLR bit isn't far to Monument) If you want a train vs tram London challenge - try East Croydon to Wimbledon. One does tram, the other does train. It'd be closer than you think (and I'm happy to take you on Jen!) Really enjoyed this and well done to the race winner!

I know the quick route to and from the DLR and Northern Line to the Central line, DLR to Central Line front of train up the escalator turn right then left follow passageway then spiral stairs to Central Line, similar route from Northern Line North end of platform follow passageway as above interchange time of 3 minutes at a leisurely pace and no long travelater.

There is a quicker way from the DLR at Bank - up escalator to Northern Line then walk and up the Spiral Staircase - If delayed - W an C to Waterloo then Northern to TCR. (or your Northern to Kings X, Vic To Warren Street , then walk or Northern Down

Rains all the time in Romford.. I should know,, because I live there. (Damnit I should've got the train that day)

Here’s the ELZ announcement pattern so you know when you would be interrupted: When the train is arriving a station, the train says ‘Next station: (Station),’ waits for 2 secknds then says ‘Change for: (Other lines),’ then at stations such as Whitechapel, it says ‘Change here for trains to (other destinations).’ Then, around 1sec after, it says ‘(Station)’ and ‘This is the train to (destination)’. When the train departs, it says ‘This is the train to (destination). Next station: (NS)’

Jen said "Metrolink" instead of Metropolitan line. 😅.

Hi, Firstly using the Purple Train from Moorgate would have been Legitimate as Euston is one place I would do my best to avoid if changing except for City Branch to Victoria Line in Same Direction, (pretty useless) or National Rail. Secondly I would like to do a similar experiment with Euston to Marylebone, One staying on the Victoria Line for one extra stop and coming back for Cross Platform Interchange, the other using corridors and escalators at Oxford Circus. Chhers.

Great race but as an os visitor who visits London as a tourist this reinforced the less stress/inbetween distances to navigate by taking the Elizabeth line all the way rather than swopping from line to line 😁 Be great fun to race like you do though!

An idea for a distant future race would be Elizabeth Line vs HS2 & Northern Line from Old Oak Common to Tottenham Court Road
