I'd love to get a more in depth explanation into how "open-access" rail operators work in practice. Are they at they whim of other rail companies, just picking up the paths no-one else wants?
This would be way more fun if all the other vehicles were still going at 100kph! As an American not having seen British highways I can tell you that they look pretty much the same here. Just, the right way around.
It feels weird that some of these motorways are just older than me. I can't imagine what the area was like before them. It feels like they were laid down at creation.
The "creator" to RU-vid relationship is so broken and, gawd I hate the word, toxic. We see so many of these videos... it's bonkers. I suppose it's the issue with social media....truly... the only person that actually cares is the person facing the issues. (might sound harsh but it's the reality of life). Always put yourself first... never think about putting others first.
I think that these railway lines with Parliamentary Services really need to have an urgent review. I understand that some of them have been downgraded, because branchlines eat up capacity from mainlines, but things like flyovers or dive-unders can solve that sort of railway conflict. We need to reduce car dependancy across the UK. So, if a line like this has people living near it (or could have a housing estate built on it) we should be looking at how to bring it up to a four trains per hour service. Stockport and Stalybridge are both significant enough areas that a train going between the two will always be useful, by itself. And being able to lower car dependency between the two, would be a bonus. However, some railway stations are in the middle of nowhere and serve less purpose, unless they are near to a tourist attraction like a wildlife preserve or something like Stonehenge. So I would not suggest giving all the trains a good service. Having said that, we need to build homes, and if we have good railway lines, then building villages around them means that construction materials can be brought in by train and new home owners will use a reactivated railway line.
I think I was in London on the same day as you, Jen - very hot and busy - I knew there was a reason I don’t normally go to London on a summer Saturday! Lovely to see some water and greenery even in the capital!
Bolton probably has the weirdest railway station, where you have to walk about five minutes up the platform to catch your train Nice countryside along that line, even if the footpaths were a bit moist 😅
Well, someone had to leave Bolton, and on a 150, our community salutes your honorable exit. I half expected a Voyager to come and stalk you. On an unrelated note, I'm happy for you two. Long walks are great for building relationships! 😊 Also, we now have two new Jen bingo squares: "Jen Walks Past" and my personal favourite, "Jen Walks Off Unsure." 😂
Ohh yes, Darwen was a separate town from Blackburn, complete with it's own municipal bus operation, until April 1974 when it merged with Blackburn council, the buses passing to Blackburn's municipal bus fleet. Of course, there's no longer a municipal bus fleet in either town! An old friend has recently moved to Darwen (from Walsall!) and he loves it!
I like Bolton! I like how striking the Town Hall Clock Tower is as you approach the town, and the piece de le resistance is the Olympic Fish Bar, so good that they conveniently built, first a railway station, then a bus station right by it!
Loved this video, Jen. It's also really lovely to see you bubbly and bouncy with a spring in your step. ❤❤ The changes you have made seem to have made a definite improvement. Thank you for everything you do!
Hi Jen, Hope you are both well, nice to hear your partner as well as see her, that hand-in-hand walk was a nice touch.☺ Re' Bolton I quite liked Bolton when I went there on a couple of occasions, the station has a modern entrance but has retained the "oldy worldy" tiled platform buildings, it works for me... See you next time Take care, Jon B.
That line used to always have 156's (well definitely around 20 years ago) as I can recall seeing them enviously at Manchester Victoria whilst our service was usually a Pacer.
