Is the EVGA NU worth that much?!

Dear viewer,
Even though all background music in the background is from RU-vid library itself and free to use, somehow, a year after I created this video, someone decided that they have a copyright claim.
The song they claim that is used is: Tehzeeb Kuch To Ho. Don't know the artist, don't care. The song used in my video is Just Stay and I donwloaded it from the RU-vid Audio library. You can find it here: • Just Stay | RU-vid Au... According to the details of that video, the song isn't Tehzeeb's at all, but made by Aakash Gandhi!
It just plain sucks that some dude can claim my video where I put all the work into, and so they can make money of it. For the 1:13 of claimed background music, which you can hardly hear! The claimed song is from 12:03 to 13:16. I mean, I do everything myself and have no team to create content. It takes a lot of time of preparation, research, script writing, photographing, recording and editing to create this. And some dumbass can just drop some idiotic copyright claim and make money with my material.
RU-vid offers an option to remove the background music from the song and so I've opted for that. This may have a serious impact on the audio of this video. If it's too bad, I will remake the video! I'd rather recreate the complete video and be set back in views than let some idiot make money of my hard work!
The EVGA NU cost me almost €300! The most expensive audio card that I currently own. Is it really so much better then the Creative AE-5? Is it better then the Asus Raid Strix Pro? Is it worth the money?! Lets find out!

Thanks Anton for this review. The best I've ever seen. Informative and calmy style as it should be. The ambient music in the background is simply great. Reminds me of Mass Effect 2 or 3.

Thank you! One of the reasons I started this channel was because all other "reviews" were simply a read trough of what the items marketing department has to say. Nothing is researched, looked at, or given an opinion about. Off course there are exceptions! The music I get from the RU-vid audio library. If you want to know which song, I'll have to look into that. :D

Lol No she didn't really kick me out. I moved voluntary. The attic now has a dormer, so it's a lot more roomier then the previous room. I do have to share my amateur "studio" with the washer and dryer though.

You're welcome! Both are good cards. The EVGA NU is the best card I ever heard, but it's really too expensive. The Asus Strix is also a really good card and at a normal price!

As an audiophile I am painstakingly aware of the need of burn in on new sensitive equipment. Please take the time to blast pink noise or white noise through it for days when not listening. I dare u to run it thru all day while you are at work n come home to experience sheer nirvana!

I have this soundcard too. It's awesome, and frustrating at the same time. Still its the best sounding sound card on the market, even to this date. Best advice, is to get an external dac/amp and a mod mic.

Last month during Christmas week sale (Dec 2020) EVGA Store had these cards for $120USD (new) Worth it at that price but not 300! Just go back and check often. Great sound card and awesome quality with my DT770 pro headphones. Cheers

The best sound card I owned. ASUS Sound Card Essence STX II. I had the EVGA, Creative: Auidigy, Ze, ZXR, AE-5, AE-9. I got tired of the software and having internal. I went with a Burson Play with Vivid op amp and I will never go back to internal. No software hogging resources. I loved the EVGA but the app was to buggy. I wish i would have kept my cards like you did

Werkt de microfoon ingang ook goed met verschillende types microfoons ? Ik heb een Asus Xonar essence STX en de microfoon ingang is gewoon niet bruikbaar, en dat is toch behoorlijk kut op het moment dat je eens een mic wilt gebruiken.

Ik heb nog niet zoveel gedaan met microfoons om eerlijk te zijn. De enige mic die nu is aangesloten is de mic van de Beyerdynamic MX300. Die mic zelf is niet zo goed, dus echt testen heb ik niet gedaan. De Essence STX is toch een goede kaart, dus ik zou verwachten dat de mic ook werkt. Misschien een driver probleem?

@@AntonsHardware Nee de microfoon cq lijningang van de xonar kaarten zijn gewoon slecht, het internet staat er vol van van mensen die hier klachten over hebben. Ik had een meetmicrofoon gekocht en wilde mijn kamer akoestich meten m.b.v. Sonarworks dit lukte gewoon niet omdat de microfoon nauwelijks een werkbaar geluid weergeeft, veels te zacht en met allerlei trucs totaal overstuurd. Maar hoe is de Evga Nu audio pro in vergelijking met de Essence Stx (1e versie), ik zat er aan te denken om er een te bestellen vooral als het een verbetering is t.o.v. de Stx en als de microfoon ingang wel een werkbaar resultaat opleverd. Heb je enig advies ?

I got mine for £148 brand new on sale from 'mazon. - It was sent from the USA and I got stung for import taxes of another £48 :( haha, the ad said all duties paid and eventually got a full refund on the import duty :) I love a happy ending, just gotta be patient and wait, (check out things like labour day sale in the USA ;)

That's about €166! Great price! I've also had issues with import taxes and I always wonder why sometimes you get those additional taxes and sometime you don't. Maybe I should pay more attention to what those taxes mean! :D

Hello I like your comparison! I think the EVGA NU supports DSD, so I guess you could play, edit and render DSD-audiofiles natively with mastering grade software on your computer. I remember the SPDIF digital interface is quite limited: 24 Bit and 192 Khz (with the optical output), is this correct?

Yes that is correct. Anything above that and you won't hear any sound.

The Evga nu supports 16 to 600 ohms.

Sorry I don't :( I wish I could give that, but I use headphones mainly. At this moment the Beyerdynamic MMX300 Manufactur is the one I use. I do have some speakers, a pair of Edifiers, but they hardly qualify as good enough speakers with which you can hear a difference in soundcard.

Try Onkyo pci SE300 a hidden beast that you can buy on Amazon JP useing zen market it is audiophile grade sound card that has no hissing or poping EMI sound

I actually saw that card second hand here. He asked €180 for it. That too much for a pci card, with poor driver support. I think its a good card though! Maybe you could donate me one? 😁

@@AntonsHardware the only one that's supporting it right now is Daniel K and his release is off of a modded driver to work with Windows 10 newest operating system and it's still not functioning properly like it doesn't save after rebooting the computer but you still get your save files that you can just load up I can also link you the newest drivers for it on another note windows 7 works fine

I had the AE-5 and volume and system lag galore. Had to return it and I got this NU Audio. Amazon has the Pro for the same price so I’m gonna return this too lol.

Hi, I have a question. I have the same problem as you before you bought Asus Xonar AE - static noise and weird sounds from my microphone. I am looking for soundcard to solve this problem. I am intrested in BlasterX AE-5 but i saw in a review and in some comments that this card have the same problems as onboard audio. What do you think about audio quality from microphone on AE-5? Is it good or maybe Asus Xonar AE is better? Im using Sennheiser PC37X.

Quality wise, the AE5 is far better then any on board solution. The ADC (Analog to Digital Converter) is so much better, so any recorded sound is better (if set up properly). Also the AE-5 has a metallic shroud, which should prevent EMI (the cause for the weird sounds). The inside of a computer is EMI heaven, so a good shielding is necessary. And the AE5 has that. Also, the AE5 is a lot better then the Xonar AE, although the Xonar AE is my all time budget favorite. So that may work better for you. Please keep in mind that the Xonar AE, although the marketing says that it has a EMI back plate, it doesn't envelop the card itself. And in order for a faraday cage to work, it must envelop it. It does a little bit though, enough to stop the static noise in my computer, but it may not help in you situation.

I'm not really sure, but I think that hardware wise there isn't a lot of difference. The 5.1 is already excellent, so my quess is that the 7.1 is on par or better than the 5.1.

I got SB AE-7 last week, really clear sound, but the bass was lacking and the AMP clearly was weaker than the one on my SBZ, and my headphones are not high impedance, I got ATH-M50X, returned the sound card, as for 200 pounds this is unacceptable. So my question is, how is the amp on this EVGA card? I guess it is smashing the headphones :)

Yes it is! It is my favorite soundcard. I also own the AE5 and I really love that card, but the EVGA NU is a different class.

I am using rme9632. I am testing 9632 and evga card. But it may be that my speakers are ordinary. I use altec 621, which is almost the same level as altec mx5021. I'm not like you own premium headphones from Bayer Power. For me, it is too difficult to evaluate audio products like you. I don't have a good experience in evaluating audio. At present, it seems that the style of .9632 is different It's hard to say which one is better. Of course, it may have something to do with my lack of advanced speakers. But the evga lighting is very beautiful PS:If you want me to review the graphics of 3d games, I can do it. But the sound is too difficult Especially I don't have a good abstract memory.

I'm trying to get my hands on both of them, but they are kind of expensive. I reached out to both Asus and Creative, but as don't have that many subs, the ignore me. That means I have to buy them in order to review them. But it is my ambition to review those cards as well! I have made reviews about the AE-5 and the Essence STX. Especially the AE-5 was very good, but the EVGA NU was a bit better.

Yes, you should! :D No, it isn't that bad over here. One advantage of being is Europe is that warrenty is a lot longer and covers a lot more. That is the reason why it's more expensive. Also, it doens't matter if the manufacturer gives a warrenty, you always deal with the retailer. So no RTM's over here, you just return to the shop and they have to sort it. But, it would have been nice to get the EVGA NU cheaper! :D

So how good is it when it is up against real HI-FI competition like the audiolab Mdac? I have bought a Creative sound blasterX-AE5 (second hand) because I doubt very much that it can compete with it.

That is a good question. I've been looking at the Audiolab Mdac, but it's just too expensive for me. In my humble opinion the difference in quality will be there (with the Audiolab being the better one) but the difference will be rather small. I'll try to get a review sample, but as a small channel, producers don't even bother to answer my emails. :(

Watch out for custom, they may decide to apply taxes to you shipment. I once ordered to sets of t shirts. Same weight, same supplier, same box. One was taxed, the other wasn't.

@@AntonsHardware I was looking at the EVGA site for a PSU for someone and perchance looked at the Nu Audio part. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the price, and of course I got straight onto my friend. He's 65 and I am 61 and I have helped him configure his 3rd Gen Ryzen because neither the Tech Media, nor Tech RU-vidrs have managed to figure out how to do that yet. So we have struck up a good friendship. Isn’t 24bit/192khz already out of spec for SPDIF? I didn’t think it could handle the bandwidth required for anything above that.

I understand your question and I was also wondering about that. But the max number of bits standard SPDIF can use is 20 bits. 4 extra can be added, but not all equipment may be able to use it, especially older stuff. There is also the discussion on whether people are able to hear a difference between 24 and 32 bit or 192 kHz and 384 kHz. It is really difficult and blind tests aren't conclusive. In my humble opinion 24 bits and 192 khz is more then enough for most people, including myself. 32 bit is just cool and I will use it, just because I can. But if I can hear any difference... I'll do a new blind test soon, with my wife changing bit rates and sampling. :D Very very good question! Thank you!

No it doesn't. You can get the Creative AE5 plus! The Plus supports DD and DTS. The non plus doesn't.

The sound staging on this card is not as good as it's successor the Nu Audio Pro 2 7.1. The new one is a much better card.

I've read that the sound card is very sensitive to other pc components. That's why they've added a backplate on their latest sound card version (EVGA NU Audio Pro 7.1 sound card). Can you confirm that there might be some issues? If not, what are your PC specs? Just curious.

I don't have any issues thank fully! But adding a backplate will help with EMI. My setup is as follows; Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 7 Intel 9700k Corsair 3000 Mhz 32 Gb MSI 2080ti Samsung 970 EVO NVME 1GB Western Digital Black NME 1GB Corsair 750 watt powersupply Avermedia Live Gamer capture device And of course an EVGA NU! :D I also have a testing setup that's way way simpler and has PCI slots :D Biostar A960D+V2 AMD FX-8350 Corsair 16 GB Transend 250 Gb SSD Using onboard video to eliminate additional EMI (and also easy accessability 600 watt powersupply
