Is the Feisty Lumber Warrior Goddess CHEATING? These, and more burning questions on today's show.

In this video, I finally explain the meaning of my channel name! I also have a slight change in plans, yet again, for this cabin build as winter is fast approaching. I get started on installing the roof boards, do the bird blocking, and also get some pest control work and stack all the firewood down at the main cabin. A little bit of everything in this one. 😊 (At least the cedar boards I purchased and am using are locally milled, and not from the lumber yard...).
Some of you may know by now, and the reason for this video being posted a bit later in the day, is that yesterday we had to put Hannah down. It's been an extremely challenging few weeks, trying to decide when she is bad enough and not good enough, and we finally had enough signs from her that it was her time. Yesterday I held her in my arms as she took her last breath. I whispered in her ear "Nighty-night my sweet girl, see you in the morning" which is what I said to her (what I say to all the dogs) every single night. As heartbroken as I am, and in tears as I write this, I am relieved that she is no longer suffering. She fought a long hard battle with that tumour in her head beside her brain stem, and now at least we know it can no longer hurt her.
We had Hannah for 9 years, she lived until she was nearly 13, and that is a full life for sure. She had one of the best lives a dog could ever ask for, full of more fun and adventure than most people live, and I am so grateful for her presence in our life. Her passing closes a book in our lives, and leaves me as the only lady in the house. My heart won't be the same for a while as I grieve, but in time, as always, it will heal. Losing 2 dogs in one year - I feel like its been a bit of an emotionally challenging year for us.😔
It looks like snow in our forecast, and I'm feeling an immense amount of pressure and panic over this cabin build, but as with anything - one day at a time is all I can do...

Hi Michy, evidently, the planks are better to be staggered, it will be a stronger installation in the end ! The same process also applies for a floor planks, in this case, at least 6 inches (not less than that) staggering ! You were better to use your cedar planks like you did, maybe you would have lost them for anything else, probably too warp for finishing or flooring ! Personally, I think you made a good call ! Keep on inspiring us, your videos are always fun to watch !

As the Turtle said to the Hare, "Slow and steady wins the race". It's not about getting it done quickly. This is what you enjoy to do in your free time, no matter how long it takes. The cabin on a cliff is coming along nicely! Michelle, you enjoy what you do and it shows. Patiently waiting for the next video. Stay safe.

Hi Michelle, I just stumbled across your channel for the first time, today. My sympathy for your loss of Hannah. I have had to put down a beloved pet dog and know what a loss that can be. The work you are doing on that mountainside is remarkable! I don't know many people who have your stamina, so I smiled when you mentioned getting labs done to find-out why you were so tired. You are such a hard worker that you don't realize how hard you have been working! Anyway, best wishes for every project you have.

you should look into getting some "ladder jacks". They are adjustable pieces that hang on the rungs of a ladder but stick out to hold a walk board on it, either on the front or the under side of the ladder depending on what works best for the situation. Also for future projects, there are roof jacks used to hold toe boards for working on steep roofs. You can attach them above your work area, stack material above / against them so you do not have to keep going back and forth / up and down the ladder so much.

A couple of more tips. You can partially drive a nail in a stud or rafter and hang your tool belt to keep it handy while in tight places and not have to watch your step for it. Also, on your transport zip line, you could add a snatch block on the downhill side and shift your load just slightly heavy to that side. It will act as a guide to keep the load from spinning. And two different methods for reducing /removing gaps, you can attach a come-a-long / ratchet hoist hanging on the underside and give it few clicks. too many will make deep gouges.

Michy I came across your channel today… OMG. You were scaring the crap out of me. You could of fell about a 💯 times..I’m a roofer and see crazy stuff all the time and all I thought while watching you is you need some help.. I couldn’t see the ground around the cabin that well but those boards are easier installed from The outside. Nail 2x4s as you go up as toe boards and walk it. Staggering those boards are not worth the trouble your going threw to achieve that…but if you started one row from the front of the building and next row from the rear of the building if it staggers one rafter that’s fine. But those are not really structural boards so it’s fine. Love your views around the cabin. My friend bought a ultrasonic bug 🐛 thing and it helped with his bug problem a lot mainly boxelders keep up the good work I’ll keep watching. Work safe…

Where she is located getting hurt could be serious and help is not near by. I hate getting my work area organized, but when I do, my first thought is why did I not do this earlier. I would probably ask a roofer about putting up the roof boards on the other side. I might be inclined to screw a couple of 2x4's to the rafters on the other side or even on the complete side to act as a makeshift ladder? I am sure there is a lot of wisdom out there to tap into. A hook for your saw would be a great idea and a block and tackle with rope to help you move htose heavy planks you are walking on?

I like using the word plethora too, and speaking of liking it too...was that a bar of Irish Spring soap I saw you washing your hands with. :o) So sorry to hear about Hannah, though know you all made the right decision when you felt it was time so she isn't suffering. When you are pulling out long nails with the hammer, if you use a small block of wood(maybe 2") under the head of the hammer it gives you more leverage to pry against, and makes it easier. I believe staggering the joints is always structurally beneficial, but if you're not going to be walking on the roof once it's done, all the ends are falling on rafters and you're covering the roof with metal instead of paper and shingles, then staggering joints is not a must. The weak point is nails at the end of a board, and if you walk on them and they flex the end of the board could crack. When you explained how Michygoss came to be, I felt like responding with Arigatou for some reason.lol Stay safe pretty lady!!

So sorry about the loss of Hannah. It's tough to lose a fur baby. You're doing a great job on the small cabin. Be careful up there.

After watching your videos for a couple of months, the explanation here about the origin of _Michygoss_ was very much welcome! It also explains the less-than-fully-structured content! So sorry about Hannah. She was a very patient and gentle soul!

Sorry to hear about Hannah. You gave her a great life with you. You are an inspiration to many and a very hard and talented worker! Nice job and looks like you are doing well with your construction process. Be safe that roof will be slick
