@@marwis32 The current crop of Scoobies all have the same pair of weaknesses compared to these Porsches. They have limited torque and they do not have a low-range to help make up for it. X-Mode only goes so far. On the flip side, only the BRZ has worse clearance than the Taycan, with the two Wilderness models in particular having decidedly better angles and clearance. EV's don't need low-ranges because of their torque curve. Ideally they have a crawl mode to get low-speed optimized throttle response, but power isn't an issue. Also only the Outback Wilderness is going to have enough power at those altitudes, the Forester's 2.5i is already running out of power much lower down (it gets wheezy at 2000' ASL) and forget about the Ascent (a pig despite having Subaru's best engine) or Crosstrek (crippled by engine choice even worse than the Forester is) Tommy seemed pretty forthright that Subaru's were probably the one CUV option that really could have a chance on Ophir thanks to their clearance and AWD system, but they're let down by their engines and limited low-speed Crawl control (even if it is best in class) I really want Subaru to do a Forester Wilderness PHEV. Let the EV portion substitute for the lack of a low range, and also for the Forester's limited power. I just traded my 2015 Forester 6MT in on a proper 4WD in large part because of the limitations on trails like this one (albeit lower altitude, I'm not out west). You can get them to do it with a few well selected mods, but you can't make them truly comfortable doing so.

It's more about creeping that torque. A low range changes your throttle to speed relationship, making it easier to control slow speed driving. An EV can do the same thing with a Crawl mode though, because they don't need gearing to achieve the same thing

The Tesla Plaid made the two speed gearbox irrelevant.

@@TFLoffroad Understandable, though I guess that's a little kind of detail to add when chiming in on that kind of info. However, there are still public parks (such as the ones near Moab, Utah, Death Valley National Park, etc. and other federal/state/local public lands/parks) that, on paper, restrict or highly-recommend certain trails to vehicles with "high-clearance" (such as having at least 8 inches of ground clearance) and an low gear transfer case. These definitions need only apply to ICE vehicles, and these areas with plenty of OHV/4×4/off-road recreation have not yet updated their policies and recommendations to also properly include BEV's. Below, I will copy, word-for-word, the definition Death Valley National Park uses for its guidelines on difficult trails: "A high clearance 4WD vehicle is defined as a SUV or truck type vehicle, with at least 15 inch tire rims or more, with a low gear transfer case, designed for heavier type use than a standard passenger vehicle, with at least 8 inches of clearance or more from the lowest point of the frame, body, suspension, or differential, to the ground, also including a means to mechanically power both, front and real wheels at the same time." No mention of any exceptions to BEV's, but I'd eventually like to know what guidelines parks will implement for the upcoming dirt-road and off-road capable BEV's.

Agreed. Good tires make a world of difference in addition to common sense - you’ll get you through a huge amount of trails. People think 35” tires with a high lift are required but most people use it as a substitute for skill.

@@XxCrankyMoosexX The manufacturer stock tyres (at least in India) will get the job done. But these are primarily specifications meant for the average man. These provide pretty decent rocky road and slushy trail and water wading abilities and they are of a size that leaves room for the required wheel articulation as well. Plus the tread pattern is optimised for all round usage. There are also a lot of vehicles out here with very large size mud terrain tyres and some with spacers to widen the track and so on. But in many cases these tend to foul with the fenders and stabiliser bars and hamper the natural articulation as well, hence the need for lift kits and dog bone shackles and such. I observe that these big tyres also stick out quite a bit from the wheel wells. This definitely creates some serious mud splatter all over the vehicle and its occupants as well. I think a good set of All Terrain Tyres with a slightly aggressive tread and a Mud and Snow Rating, should do perfectly well for the average man. Personally I prefer to keep all my vehicles bone stock more or less so as not to mess about with the original design, engineering and physics of the vehicle. And my 4x4 Jeep type vehicle (Mahindra Thar) with its stock tyres (CEAT Czar) deals perfectly well with mud, slush, water wading and climbing over rock outcrops and the inevitable rocky roads strewn with loose gravel and big stones and potholes and things.

I appear to be absolutely blown away......this.......rose my blood pressure. I would only go about 20 or so on the trail downhill in a Jeep as long as I could see exactly where I can get the car but on this I wouldn't even take it there. Even lifted I would rather have about 10 or so inches of ground clearance max at the least for the high setting. Just a few extra inches do a huge huge huge thing to make a vehicle capable. I really hope that Jeep comes out with a full electric beast. Also HOWW DID YOU NOT DRAIN THE BATTERY TO LIKE 5 PERCENT I DID NOT think the batteries were that good in current electric cars I am literally blown away
