Irish here too, I've noticed understandably and that the vocab is what can be similar, anything simple or from old will be unique but anything new is crudely invented and usually a logical respelling and irish-ifying of the english word.

In english the word for irish lanuage it is irish. But gaelic football under gaa the gaelic athletic association. I cannot comment on the Scottish lanuage which may be called Scots gaelic. In irish lanuage the word id Gaelige. If a guy says he plays gaelic as opposed to soccer or rugby he means gaelic football or hurling. Eamon who I think is American had a very good viedo showing the pace of gaelic football or hurling an amateur game.

About the relation between Irish and English, they’re distantly related. While Irish is Celtic when English is Germanic, they’re both branches of Indo-European languages, all ultimately descending from Proto-Indo-European.
