I still have the Voyage. I had the last generation Paperwhite with the 6" screen and audiobook capabilities. My brother did not have an e-reader so I gave him my Paperwhite. Finally, I have a Boox Nova 2 with a 7.8" screen and warm light as well as audiobook capabilities. Still love the Voyage because it is so light and the page turn buttons allow for one-handed reading. I would love to see a modernized device with the form factor of the Voyage.
I’m a voyage user and I just changed my battery so I can keep using it. I have no interest in “upgrading” to a more recent model. I actually bought a 2021 model paper white at a pawn shop for five dollars and gave it to my mom haha,, I love the haptic feedback buttons and the backlight is great. I would like a warm light but thats really about it and not a big deal. Loved the video :)
Great overview. I was able to hack my Voyage to have warm light. I bought amber window film, made for car windows. Works great. The screen now looks identical to the newer models on warm light.
Hi there, nice video. The consensus within the ereader community is the Voyage actually has the clearer 300ppi screen, and I'd agree. It used a proprietary anti reflective etched glass which increased manufacturing costs but gives it better clarity over even the latest Kindles to my eyes. This increased production cost is possibly why Amazon retired it so quickly. I still use it and won't upgrade until Amazon release a colour model I suspect. I agree with you on everything else mentioned...power button placement is really important from an ergonomic standpoint and I have no idea why Amazon's engineers continue to place the power button at the bottom on new Paperwhites where you can feel it while reading. I also love the auto dimming feature on the Voyage and its size is perfect for pocketability. It fits in the back pocket of my jeans even with the oragani case on and that's a huge plus for me as it means I can read during all sorts of downtime like waiting in line at the store. Keep up the good work on your videos. Stephen
Hi Maneetpaul, I enjoy your videos! Unless it is night and I need the warm light I use the Voyage. The text on the Voyage is sharper because of the etched glass screen and I love how it looks. I don’t need any of the features which came with later Kindles. I don’t use Bluetooth and kept accidentally turning it on without noticing and draining the battery on a Paperwhite. I prefer not having it at all. The Voyage background is lighter than my Oasis and Paperwhites. When there is enough ambient light, I don’t need to use the built in light on my Voyage. I always need to use the built in light with my Oasis and Paperwhite just to get enough contrast between the background and the text. The Voyage is lightweight and much easier for me to hold than the new Paperwhite. I own newer Kindles but the Voyage is the one I reach for.
I own a Voyage, Clara HD, Sage and a Note Air. I have started to trade in my Voyage but then look at the display and just go WOW, the contrast is better than any Eink screen I have ever seen. So, out of nostalgia, or the fact the screen rocks, I’ll be keeping it. I have ordered a Paperwhite Signature, so maybe that will do for the Voyage…. But I doubt it 😁 Happy Reading!💕📚💕🖖
So how is it with your new Paperwhite SE in comparison to Voyage? I own a Kindle Voyage for almost 9 years and I still don’t find compelling reason to upgrade to the new model. So did SE retire your Voyage in the end? Was it worth updating?
I got a Libra 2 to replace my Voyage last month but I'm still holding onto my Voyage. It was my first e-reader ever so mostly sentimental reasons, but I also just love the device, the design is sleeker, the screen is one of the best, the power button is actually exactly like the Libra 2 button on the back of the device which is where it should be, and it's very portable! I don't feel like I'll ever go back to Kindle but if they ever released an upgraded version of the Voyage with USB-C, waterproofing, and amber light then I would seriously be tempted. I've also compared the PW5 screen to the Voyage and I honestly liked the Voyage's more, it feels smoother to touch, and more premium somehow, though this could just be my personal taste.
@@yevheniibatiievskyi after 11 months of using the Libra 2 I have to say, the new and improved Kindle Voyage wouldn't make me go back to Amazon. I love my freedom from the Amazon walled garden too much, lol. But I still think it would be a smart of them to consider a revamped version of the Voyage.
Thank you for this video. I have been thinking about upgrading my Voyage, which I love, but having a larger screen and amber lighting is really tempting me to do it. I didn't realize there was the amber light for night reading. I started with the Kindle keyboard version, and I still have it. I probably should trade it in or gift it to someone since it still works. On the voyage I like that the side buttons are there, but I never use them lol
The side buttons are great but if you don't use them then definitely consider upgrading to the PW! Most people stick with the Voyage because they love the buttons a lot. I also think the amber lighting is a must-have feature :)
@@Maneetpaul I might go ahead and upgrade. I just looked it up and there is 20% off a new Kindle if you trade in an old one plus a gift card. The gift card is not a lot but you can put it towards the purchase.
Oh nice I'm early. I think the paperwhite is much better now that it's been updated, but I think the voyage has a few things I like over the Paperwhite. Honestly the amber light filter is a deal breaker for me though, especially for reading at night.
I’ve been using my voyage for some years now and I have not changed it because the heptic buttons are an absolute must for me. I don’t care about the page animations or other nice graphic improvements. Also I don’t need audiobook capacities because I have my phone for that. No other ebook has what I need. The only reason I use kindle is because I can send documents over email to the kindle and this is really convinient for me because I don’t need to use my computer or cables to upload content to the ebook. I do it from my phone in no time. I really think I need buttons because I usually read with one hand and kindle oasis is too expensive, too big for me and a bit weird shape. Right now there’s no kindle that can replace my Voyage and I hope it lasts forever. I really wish that kindle realeased a model with buttons (preferably heptic ones), that is more or less that size and at a reasonable price without other innecessary capacities like audiobooks.
In june 2023 I tstill have it. It is very very hard I have dropped it to the floor many many times and not a single scratch in the glass. I love it so much.
was going to buy an ebook on aliexpress but then i found refurbished voyage at a local retailer and decided to go for that, arrives tomorrow. first ebook and i cant wait to start exploring the warhammer40k universe
Hey, was just wondering if you got your Voyage. Even I was planning on buying Voyage as my first ebook reader but I'm sceptical of it being outdated. I am still not sure whether I should buy Voyage or Paperwhite 10th gen (2018). Please do share your experiences if you could. It would be of great help
I loved my Voyage. I would still have it but it was starting to have battery life and lighting problems. I did buy the PW SE. I really miss the page turn buttons, the power button location and the size.
Hey maneetpaul, in a previous video you had recommended a note taking app/website that can sink with your kindle highlights/notes. I cannot seem to find that video or site. Would you be able to tell us what that site is please?
Guess I should hold on to my Voyage and just replace the battery...and maybe pay for 'no-ads' finally. I paid extra at the time for the premium brown saddle leather origami case and it still self-heals and looks great. No interest or time for doing jailbreak maintenance anymore on devices. I do prefer reading hardback, new release sized pages on a modern iPad, but I don't think Amazon will be making an even-bigger Kindle in that size that costs $300+ anytime soon.
I have kindle voyage and the newest larger 2022 Paperwhite. The image is sharper, crisper, easier to read on Kindle Voyage, even if it's older and slower.
My voyage go freeze when it plugged to my Mac and PC, it definitely have problem with the port or the mainboard. I’ve upgraded to libra2 but I still miss my voyage, it is so tiny and light, I hope I could find a way to make it able to be use again.
I still use the voyage, only reason for me to update is the screen color inversion of the paperwhite. My only question is if the voyage is secure to use since it no longer receive software updates? Thanks for the video
That is a valid point about security. Having software updates is always a good thing, but I wouldn't be too worried about the Voyage not being fully up-to-date. You can be more safe by keeping it in airplane mode when you don't need the connection.
I read outside all the time and wear heavy gloves. I recently dropped my voyage and cracked the screen. Is it cost affective to replace the screen or upgrade. I need to be able to turn the pages without touching the screen. Would the paperwhite work tapping the side with gloves on?
What does it say about me that I will watch your reviews when I already have a Kindle and have no plans on getting one. Lol guess I just enjoy your reviews or I have nothing better to do. Lol
I got the new PW to replace my older voyage. Other then the hard page turn buttons I prefer the Paperwhite in every way, and truly wouldn't recommend anyone buying into an older kindle unless it's incredibly cheap.
I agree. I would probably only suggest the Voyage as an alternative to the current baseline Kindle. Amazon really needs to update that one. Thanks for watching, James!
Voyage is way better than Paperwhite. Not even close. The contrast and screen is clearer and sharper. The blacks inkier. Page turn sensors. Then again the Kindle voyage was priced at $200 back in 2014. In 2024 with Bidenflation that would be about $300. Compare that to $150 for the paperwhite.
