Is The Leaf Blower Still KING For Car Drying? Leaf Blower VS Adams Heated, Filtered Mini Air Cannon!

Her at the shop, we use a few methods to dry cars. If a car is being prepped for correction or protection, more than likely we will use a large microfiber drying towel. If we are drying a well protected vehicle, we will use a leaf blower, Air Cannon, or Griots Garage Air Pulse Gun. I still prefer the Leaf Blower over everything. My employees like the new Adams Mini Air Cannon. Adam’s Mini Handheld Air Cannon is the best possible forced air dryer for the weekend warrior detailer. Adam’s Handheld Mini Air Cannon outperforms all other hand-held forced air dryers available. Powered by 1200 watts the Handheld Mini Air Cannon forces 90 CFM of heated air at an impressive 19000 FPM. Whether you are drying the exterior of your vehicle or blasting out the interior; Adam’s Handheld Mini Air Cannon comes standard with a 20-foot power cord to allow you to go anywhere around your vehicle.

I have an EGO 650 CFM leaf blower that I use for my ceramic coated car. Leaf blowers don't work too well on an un-coated vehicle--it just blows the water around. I have a couple good microfiber drying towels for other cars.

I have an EGO 650 cordless and the Adams MINI dryer. The EGO is way more efficient in overall car drying, but for the more precise areas, the Adams is great. If I had to chose one, the EGO for sure.

It was informative to see the different times for drying. I use an ego 650 with stubby nozzle and blower band on the end. Works great, the downsize is the weight and noise of the 650. You should definitely use ear protection. I always follow up with a topper and plush towel. Extreme Solutions Topper, Ethos Pro Shine or Gyeon ceramic detailer all work well. Have pretty much retired all my drying towels.

As a DIYer I just have a small electric leaf blower that I bought from Walmart a few years ago, I’m sure it doesn’t compare to the nicer heated blowers but it works for me, great video Brian 👍😁

Just got the Adams and used it yesterday, took about an additional minute but the size is clutch for getting smaller areas and working door openings and trunks/frunks (Tesla). The heat is also pleasant as well. Overall for 80$ I'll keep using it and save my batteries for my Milwaukee yard and power tool equipment.

I like my DeWalt leaf blower. I have plenty of batteries but it never takes more than one. The concentrator tip on my model is a plus. It moves a lot of air and if the conditions are right, I’ll use it to blow snow off my driveway!

I have the ego 650 as well....and it's the king of car drying. I put a snub nose on mine and it works great.

I use a Metrovac sidekick. I added a 12” piece of pipe to get a little extra reach and it works fine. Might not be the fastest but if gets the job done with warm filtered air. Using a leaf blower might be more powerful but it isn’t filtered air or heated, so it is possible to be blowing dusty air on your nice clean car. I highly recommend using ear protection when using any type of blower as it does get loud. Thanks for sharing 👍✌️☮️

I use a Makita 18V cordless leaf blower with a Blowerband silicone stubby nozzle---in matching Makita teal, of course. 😍 Works great, plenty of power, compact, no cord, and I can even take it with me to the coin-op spray booth in the wintertime and dry off my car on the spot. Easy-peasy!

I have been using a leaf blower for well over 25 years. I got the idea from a friend who restored Bi-planes, old Stearmans. Yes heavy and large, however for the price differences I will stay with the leaf blower. I prefer a smaller Black & Decker which is lighter and a smaller diameter nozzle that packs a ouch.

In my small shop, any added expense is not necessary. I have a leaf blower already for my yard. Remember, most shop vacs have a blow out, so it gives you another option. For my own vehicles, they mostly get ONR baths, anyway.

Hi Brian. I use the Adams Air Cannon Jr. during the winter months on a coated car and it does a great job. During the summer I towel dry because the Arizona heat dries the car to quickly for the cannon. Either way a protected car is so much easier to dry quicker.

I am in Europe and a good alternative from the Metrovac products (which are quite a budget for a week-end warrior) is the Bigboi blowr mini. Thats an Australian brand and the blower does the job but the 5/6 minutes in the video is impressing me. Never run the clock but sounds quite longer for me but I got large Cadillacs...

For outdoor washing with a pressure washer, I use a leaf blower but follow with some light towel drying for drips and door jams. But, most of my washing follows the rinseless method in my garage. I have not tried using a blower in these circumstances other than getting into gaps, mirrors, etc. I would love to hear if others use a blower under rinseless conditions washing one panel at a time.

I have the blaster sidekick. I love the forced/heated air combo. On my coated cars, it takes 6-7 min to dry the car and rims, which is within the realm of reason for me(hobbyist detailer) I do have the new Milwaukee leaf blower with 3-d printed stubby attachment. I plan on trying it out mainly because it’s cordless. I love the the heated/filtered air of the sidekick though. It’s been going strong for 4 years, and the fact that it’s corded is a minor inconvenience in my opinion.

I believe in multi purpose equipment. Being I already use the EGO leaf blower around the house for many different reasons I now use that to blow out and dry my car. Why go out and buy more special tools when I don’t have to. I try to leave a little water on it after blowing so I can just spend 5 minutes going over with a drying towel.

Best process I’ve found is: 1. Spend about one minute leaf blowing from top to bottom to get the bulk (not all) of the water off. 2. Towel dry along with drying aid. 3. Use metro sidekick along with small drying towel in other hand to dry the wheels and all nooks and crannies. Fast, safe, and thorough.

Quickest way to dry a vehicle is to use a lightly damp drying microfiber towel. I use waffle weave, most others seem to prefer some kind of twisted loop. Note that it is often required to blow out the jams, windows and mirrors … so some kind of blower is beneficial. Blowing vehicles dry takes more time but they CAN do 95% of it, then follow up with a towel. imo, there is no better or best. There is only what works for you. 😊😊😊
