Thanks! There’s so much I didn’t cover in the video, the custom button settings to get extra zoom on shots as well as the shooting modes just makes this camera so easy and fun to use
GH5 is still a beast in 2024 and you can find them pre-owned at ridiculous prices! I picked one up a few months ago; like new, with a 47 shutter count for $440 USD.
@@TalesOfTam I actually switched over to the GH5 from the Sony A6700, which is saying a lot IMO. The biggest thing for me was that the GH5 never overheats when shooting 4K60 continuously, whereas the A6700 literally would overheat and shut off after only recording 4K60 for 25 mins which I think is totally unacceptable for a brand new, $1500 camera.

You don't multiply the aperture by 2, only the focal length and depth of field. An f/1.2 lens on MFT will still take in the same amount of light as it would on a FF camera. So yes, if you are talking about the depth of field only, then you can multiply the aperture by 2.
I returned the G9 II and reverted to the GH5. The color accuracy on the new model was disappointing; the focus and higher frame rate did not justify the cost when the skin tones were so inaccurate, making everyone appear like characters from The Simpsons. Consequently, I nearly sold all my Micro Four Thirds gear but decided to keep my GH5 and Leica 12-60 lens. With the remaining funds, I purchased a Fujifilm GFX 50s II medium format camera.
The GH5 is a good survivor anyhow! I will say have you looked into the S5ii? Jumping from the tiny 4/3 sensor to bigger than full frame must be a difference!
@@TalesOfTam Yes, I was considering the S5ii, but it would cost approximately 40% more than the GH5 and Fuji combination. S5ii is indeed sharper and 1 stop more dynamic, beside for low noise. But GH5 still had deeper colors, and less rolling shutter.
@@TalesOfTam Indeed, 400mbit ALL-I surpasses many cameras at the 3000 euro price point in today's standards. Pana Leica is affordable in Denmark and offers greater clarity compared to Olympus lenses.
@@skumcat most definitely, value for money it can’t be beaten, just a shame about the autofocus but as I have shown on my channel it’s not completely needed!
It would be interesting to know what this camera makes it "old" compared to newer cameras because personally I don't see a difference in terms of quality in video recording. And the GH4 which I also own brings very similar results in 4k, you couldn't tell the difference. Of course stabilisation is gonna be non existing on the GH4 but if you have a stabilizer then... Nothing is stopping you. There s always this general idea that working with older cameras doesn't make you "professional" but this is really nonsensical.
The annoying thing about the gh5 is that it reads out the sensor in 10bit linear, hence why it has the V-LOG-L The S-series have 12bit linear readout whicg is the reason for their higher DR, not necessarily because they are fullframe
@@handfuloflight If you want to have full control of the image processing and the best potential image quality, then the Sigma FP. This comes with the cons of slow turn around time and massive file sizes. The S5II is a better quick turnaround and general use camera.
@@handfuloflight The issue with you question is the fact that both sensors are very similar but the main difference is the s5ii processes everything in camera. You can get 10/10 images from it, but that requires you to nail your exposure, your white balance and everything to do with the image. You have very minimal post-processing flexibility. So you have to understand how you camera processes the image from 12bit linear raw signal to a 10bit log video. You basically control the input so you can expect a good output. The sigma fp gives you much more flexibility, but this also means, that if you're not good at post-processing, your image has a high chance of coming out looking poor. You have control over the input and output unlike the s5ii. It's all about what your skill level is and how much convenience you need out of a camera. I'd reserve the fp for narrative or creative jobs and use the s5ii for everything else
Hey, so basically V-Log is a colour profile that extracts the most colour information so when you go to edit and colour grade the footage you can have maximum freedom, it also catches the highlight better. Great when paired with 10 bit footage so you can grade to your desired image! If you’re just starting however then Cine D is good enough :)
@@gonzapaschetta for the GH5 you would need to buy it if you’re buying brand new, but to be honest they don’t sell brand new so chances are on the used market you can find a GH5 with V-Log already bought :)
