Three years of the Mandarin Duck Phantom. How do I feel about it after dozens of other bows? === Follow me on Facebook: / nusensei Twitter: / nu_sensei Instagram: / nusensei
The Phantom is also targeted at another audience - the survivalist/hunter. It's shorter at 56". Making it easier to use in the wild. And the material is more durable when there may be no replacements available. This audience do not generally show up in archery clubs. Unless your archery club added a "survivalist" bow hunting course to attract this audience. Probably for the off seasons.
I've had the Junxing one for a few years now and still like it. Perhaps they don't show up as much at clubs because they look somewhat aggressive all-in-black and skeleton style?
Hello sensei! Have you heard about the Gray AIX Riser? I don't see any detailed reviews about it online and I'm curious. I want to know your thoughts regarding the riser. I hope you can do one in the future. Thank you and have a nice day!
Hi NuSensei, I have been shooting a Junxing F179 for just over a year now, and after watching this video, it looks like the F179 is a rebrand of the Phantom, is that correct? I feel the way you explained the cons a little sounds like how my bow feels. After watching this video I also feel like setting up my Sage again and having a nostalgic shoot with it again :) Love your videos :)
@@borneoagathis5920 I know, that's what I have said already. I bought it from Junxing, I have the Junxing pamphlet with their bow range that came with my bow....
I’m interested in what your take is on the Galaxy archery Sage? It’s a “Sage”, however I have a Galaxy Solstice riser and WOW! It’s nice (love to see a review on it) but yeah I’m interested in seeing some of more Galaxy Archery stuff 👍😎
To me the sage just looks ugly. I like this bow because it's simple I don't need ass lol of the bells and whistles. I am looking at the black hunter. All I want is a simple black tactical looking bow for hunting and maybe even for self defense.
This is another video where you fail to show consideration to your viewers by neglecting to state the distance you are shooting or a close up of your group. That is why I gave you a thumbs down and I hit The unsubscribe button.
Why did you subscribe anyway? He mentioned the reason many time. In any bow review, showing the bow is most important than showing grouping or target. Also for an archery tutorial, showing archers form and shooting is more important than showing off target.
The bow doesn't make the group, your logic is flawed. He literally said in the video he is using arrows spined for a 45lb with these 35lb limbs.. What are you expecting to learn from seeing his group size? Maybe you shouldn't be subscribed if you don't even do archery.
Love mine. Of all my bows it's one of my favorites. Because I shoot purely instinctive, almost a snapshot , and it has virtually no charictor, just a basic functional tool. When I start my shot cycle it and the arrow almost cease to exist. It allows me to totally focus on my mark. Almost like using a hammer or axe. Not very romantic, but it gets the job done.
From watching this review, the phantom seems to me like what would be the "standard issue bow" for military personnel in an alternate universe in which military forces still used bows in the 21st century
I had one from Junxing and I completely agree. Shoots alright for the money, a real beater-bow. Perfect for the back yard impulse buyers, but little more.. Loudest bow I've used and stacks excessively after 28", I got over 45lb at 31" with 35lb limbs. The Black Hunter, also from Junxing, is really an awesome bow and much better value for what you get. Very smooth draw all the way to 31 and a real pleasure to shoot.
@@greenhoodedvigilante458 I draw over 32" with my 54" "horse bow" and it shoots fantastic. But yes, the phantom is horrible past 28" which is why I sold it on.
@@mrnice752 Horse bow is very different. It doesn't have 15 or 17" rigid riser like recurve. Comparing to same length of horse bow and recurve, horse bow has longer limbs. Also, thumb grip is more comfortable on shorter bows.
@@greenhoodedvigilante458 I know this. You said 31" is too much for a 56" bow. What about the Border Bows Ghillie Dhu Recurve? 52", 15" riser and can draw 31". A bow can be designed to draw any length. This bow, "phantom" stacks excessively after 28". What is your point?
@@mrnice752 I didn’t say you can't use a shorter bow. But there are reasons longer bow is oftem recommended for longer draw length. Also, it depends on the bow. Someone with 31" draw length normally uses longer bows.
I'm small, short and have a short draw, and the Phantom fits me better than my Sage. And not afraid to drop it. Just change the stock arrow rest and string.
I've been using Phantom for a year now as my first bow. and i really fell in love with it. it's cheap even in Malaysian currency, and i think that the Phantom have a lot of potential than just for recreational. as mentioned in the site it is a hunting bow. so probably work better as one. or maybe you can add some small details and use it as a prop for cosplay instead :p
Hey dude, i was choosing between sage and phantom two days ago, and i bought phantom as my first bow , in my mind i want it like my first bow to feel upgrade with sage and other bows , which ill buy next . Thank y for videos , u are awesome, from Russia with love
Never used it before but judging from videos I've seen from it, it seems like it's a decent bow at a lower draw weight but higher draw weights kinda expose it perhaps
I think that its like a "bare bones bow" gives it more strategic value. Its a pretty bow and shoots well. I think even the warriors of ancient times who practicticed Ninpo Kyujitsu would have been very pleased to use these Phantom bows because they are stealthy for nightime ops, accurate with the right training, light weight, and can take a beating without getting worried about its condition, good for training and combat.... Its an all in one bow. Lastly it can be easily replaced.
i have the Phanton and the Black Hunter, I like the Hunter more but did not hate the Phantom. Its just different, plus i can mount stuff on the Phantom like a sight , plunger etc... wich is very nice.
Ditto. Although not pretty it is balls accurate when a good arrowrest/plunger is put on it. I won't cry when I ding it or drop it, perfect for hunting. Solid. I'm getting another in a heavier weight. Love it.
@@verofpv6152you can go the Olympic route but if your plunger/rest costs more than your bow?! Cheep Amazon matching magnetic set, Teflon tube on the rest wire, flemish string on velcro limb pads to quiet the thunk.
I have a Samick Sage since I was influenced by your video and I like it. I saw your original video on this but I think I like the Black Hunter better which might be my next bow.
Love the bow, sucks that I ordered it at a heavy draw weight and faulty limbs. Slowly over the years I tried to up my draw weight and still trying in order to move up in draw weight to use new and heavier limbs
sorry to say, but that 56" with a whisker biscuit n 3-pin sight becomes a hunter's tool; while the samick sage is only good for rental in an archery club..
I hated mine, but I think it’s because my draw length is longer than average and it’s a pretty short bow. Was built OK, didn’t care for the arrow rest.
Need some advice looking for very smooth shooting bow. I was thinking longbow but not sure if I should do a recurve. Don't care about speed. Just something me and my wife can shoot. Thanks.
I have been thinking of getting one. My question would it be a good hunting bow? And I used to own several bows and used to teach archery at a summer camp.
i got a kainokia recurve, alum riser , lam. limbs 50lbs , 60.00 dollars amazon, shoots good, i bought another, 40 lbs, my black hunter delaminated, so i replaced with this 60 dollar bow
best bow for $50,- Junxing F172 or F171. I ordered the bow directly from the factory and paid $ 50 for it. I have been shooting with it for almost 2 years and am more than satisfied!
@@XiahWolf i simply wrote them an email and after a little back and forth i was able to order. a second time it didn't work, Junxing then referred me to aliexpress for single orders.
I bought my junxing f155 just to see if I will care next month. No way I'm spending a ton on something I'm not sure I care about. The bow you are shooting is basically the entry bow to see if you care in my opinion. Going to look at compounds next week.
Hey NUSensei, any recommendations on a quality bow for someone who is not looking to pay a whole lot of money? I essentially want a bow that I could do some training with (even possibly hunting eventually) but want to get the best bang for my buck. I'm a beginner, but also want a bow I can hopefully keep for a while and serve to be a good all around bow if need be. Ty
I like how the most active and interesting comment thread on this video is listed as the very last comment because RU-vid needs to censor anything that is vaguely controversial.
Had a thought about arrows while watching your last quarantine shooting video. I saw you nock arrows the wrong way multiple times and wondered why arrows don't just have two larger vanes or feathers so that would not be a problem. If you have an answers please reply!!
With feathers, it's less important - the feathers will flex and won't deflect as much. If you're shooting target, you'll probably want to orientate the fletchings for the least deviation, but for what I'm doing here, it doesn't matter. In most cases, arrows will have an odd-coloured fletching to indicate the index vane.
Thanks Nu ! I suggest you remind your commenters that this is a archery channel and governments and their people are two different things. The world would be a better place if we would see ourselves a part of one big community especially in these trying times . Lets all try to be kind to each other. Take care :)
I just wish I could settle on my first bow, indecision stinks. It also stinks that Bosen stopped making the 25" Horn riser. I've been aiming for a 66" bow overall (pun intended), and at 6' I like a longer riser/limb combo. And the look of that setup was phenomenal. Oh well, I'm nothing if not patient. I've been itching to get back to archery for almost two decades! Lol. Thanks Sensei.
As a side note, a thought just occurred. There are bow weight training devices out there that cost more than this bow. So then, would this be better classified as a good "training bow" at its lightest weight, say 20 lbs? I ask because I know at some point some family members will also want to try archery, and this may be a good option to pass along to them. I had hoped to start with a ILF system, in the Target Shooting style (as opposed to strict Trad or Hunting), but I'm struggling to decide on one that gives a good return for money in value for money. Especially as a beginner with little muscular conditioning. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts. Anyone?
Is that for target archery? At 6' I'd think at least a 68" would suit you better. If you make a search for Lucas Gao on FB and give him a message I'm sure you can still get the 25" Horn riser.
Mr Nice A minor clarification is in order, and good catch. 66" minimum is what I've been looking at based on sizing guides, and local expert recommendations. Though Sensei's vid about bow size and stacking did give me pause. So I am also looking at a 17" riser with longer or xl limbs. FB isn't really a option for me, but I do appreciate the suggestion (I'll keep it for future reference). Ali Express advertises both as available (17 and 25), but I don't really trust a 75% approved seller on a site I've never used, not for that amount of money. Thanks again!
I was looking at the 17” Bowen horn riser, I think it’s beautiful, but unfortunately I have a 31.5” draw. Someone needs to design a short length hunting style bow that has good long draw length
@@majorfailure8294 Border Archery have the long draw lengths covered. I would suggest going for a 19" riser at 30"+ draw length or you will get pretty bad string pinch. @Jesse Cohen Lucas Gao works at Bosen, it's usually better to deal direct with the manufacturer than Chinese resellers. That way you know exactly what you're getting and a proper warranty, a lot of the shops on Ali don't know what they are selling.. That being said, if you know what you are looking for then you can get some great deals on Ali. Best of luck, always nice to see people joining/rejoining the sport!
I've had both for years, there isn't ever a situation where I'd prefer to shoot the Phantom over the BH. Maybe if there was a danger of damaging the how I'd pull out the Phantom.
