Is The Modern Pokemon Card Bubble About to Pop? 

When I hear "Pokemon" and "Bubble"... all I can think about is the "Bubble Mew" from Paldean Fates, haha.

Lemme tell you. It feels much better selling high end Pokémon cards then collecting them. You cannot "Catch them all" but you can "sell them all"

I don’t know if we are in a bubble. However what I do know with almost 10 years of investing experience is that no one knows anything. If I had a nickel for every time someone said we are in a bubble I’d be rich. And vice versa. The market will never do what you’re expecting it to do. Do what play is the least riskiest for you and remember time is your friend, average down, or cut losses and move into a more favorable position for YOU. Now my personal opinion, everyone said the market was dying after the covid bubble. Guess what, it’s still thriving. Do you know what else does that? The stock market, crypto market, precious metals. Stop buying things on fomo. Buy when no one else is buying. Fear is your friend, greed is your enemy. That’s just my two cents.ive made a ton of mistakes, im far from perfect. But this is the best advice you will get.

No one is talking about S&V just isn’t a good era to collect and many collectors would rather go back and buy the alts from SWSH. Those alts will always be the most wanted modern cards for year to come.

I’m just focusing on Japanese right now. The market is really cheap for Japanese right now. I’ll wait for English to settle in months to come

So I had just pulled my umbreon vmax alt for one of the 3 pack tins and I went and bought another one and pulled the gengar vmax alt

I just think it’s crazy that my Starmie V and Garchomp V trainer gallery cards are $50 cards now. I know it’s not the big 5 but there are plenty of other mid-level alt arts that have gone up 50% or even doubled in price in the last 2-3 weeks

I’m pretty hyped that I pulled 4 of the “big 5” myself within the last year. I have 2 Moonbreons, 1 Rayquaza VMax alt, and 1 PSA 10 Gengar VMax alt. I really really want that Blaziken. I’ve opened probably 150-200 chilling reign and the best card I got was a Galarian Rapidash alt 😅

Being out of print does jump the price but not to the point where these modern chase psa10 price wise are catching up to vintage psa10 bangers, def a bubble that will pop eventually.

Just curious how do you check the population of a graded card. Id be interested in just seeing the size of some markets for certain cards

I own an LGS in Europe and it’s definitely not a bubble for us store owners. Margins are the lowest since 2020. Most of us are staying afloat by selling some other TCGs that are being hyped rn.

I've been trying to collect all of the alt arts. I have all but 15. A lot of the ones I need are from chilling reign and the giratina and aerodactyl.

I remember when it was just the big two lol, just umbreon and gary, and maybe gengar

Worth noting there is only like 4000 giratina v alt arts in psa 10 I feel they Will spike even more in Price being “hard” to grade compared to other big alt arts

Sold off all of my alt art big 5. This just reminds me of the Charizard bubble .... not sustainable. Pretty sure I can buy them back 6 months-12 months from now for cents on the dollar.

Just like volatile stocks/crypto, prices will rise and dip. I think with S&S product going up in price, and knowing how hard it is to pull the alt arts, It's only natural for the prices to go up as people realize they wont be able to pull it, so just buy it.

With every card sold the price hikes and some people won't go along with it. The people that do however, well, they buy it and are also out of the market. I'm sure this will calm down a little in a while. FOMO is just hitting hard, i went crazy on some sealed gen 8 stuff since i still want to rip gen 8 over the next few months

They can go down but I do believe the current market price is fair these cards are hard to pull, multiple cases to pull the one you want and when a single box even at old MSRP of $143 these prices make sense now boxes are $300 it can go higher. These cards are not rare they are scarce

I agree. I think we are having a bubble for SWSH. Like you said just look at the pop reports. These cards aren't "rare" and a lot of ppl I know of just getting them as investments. So they eventually wanna get rid of these (= sell them) and if a lot of people do that the bubble will burst.

Lugia v is in the big 5 now

Bought a Lugia V recently, paid like $30-$40 more than what it was before the spike. But its not an issue to me if it drops in value. I love the card, the artwork is fantastic to me, and Lugia is my favorite Pokemon. To me, it feels the same as when the trainers started going up. I believe they'll drop slightly in a few months, probably 10%-20% per card and then gradually rise again over the year.

Jake you ever considered selling ALL of your Pokémon?? You could buy an amazing Condo or vacation home hell you could buy a Lamborghini. Instead of having a big plastic container filled with slabs lol

You can’t really compare anything like This umbreon card, it’s arguably the greatest pokemon card to ever exist, better than Latios latias tag team. 11,000 psa10s it’s just a fraction of the pokemon community who one day may recognise this card being one of the greats of all time

We are in a massive economy bubble. A crash is very imminent. Probably within the next 12-18 months. The first thing people will sell is these collections and the market will flood and drop dramatically. I would save your money now guys and be ready.

There will come a day that there are less sealed Evolving Skies booster boxes than Moonbreons.

Moonbreon pop is too high to maintain even a $700 value. It’s already 11000k+ and it’s only 3 years old. Everyone and their mom has that card.

I have never seen so many top signals in my life, I think we are literally right at the very top of the movement right now before a retrace.

I can't imagine anyone wanting any of those cards, because they are mostly ugly compared to past products, including umbreon. When everything is bulk pack fresh slabbed PSA 9 & 10. 11000 PSA 10 is HILARIOUS. 5 years from now when something else is Hype these Umbreons are the first things the gamblers sell off to buy into the next wave of hype.

My optimistic side is saying: “yea, the bubble will pop and I’ll have another chance for a decently priced Moonbreon/giratina.” My pessimistic side is saying: “that ship sailed and I’m SOL…” That being said latios and latias came down a decent amount after it exploded a couple of years ago.

No reason to think SWSH will pop dude especially evolving skies. It was the chase set of the last decade that brought people back into the hobby. You said it would crash months ago too and it has only gone up. Stick to your Japanese Pokemon content man... Stop leading people astray because you dont want people investing in sets that make it too expensive for you to open. We all know you chase value but Scarlet violet is value and it sucks compared to SWSH.

If there .are 50000 umbreons out there and 500000 people want that card is that considered scarce. There are prob more people throughout the world that want it. I would think it will stay high for awhile yet.

The pokemon bubble popped. Just checked my collection on Collector app and I've lost around 80% value.

Yeah I don't think you're quite accounting for the effect of a failing economy AND 15,000 PSA graded Moonbreons. These cards are like tulips back in the day. Probably another 20,000 ungraded Moonbreons out there as well. $1,500 in a PSA 10 and $1,000 raw is so unbelievably laughable. I really do think it'll be a $300 card again, MAYBE $500 in a PSA 10 at the absolute most. This market in general is so overcooked it makes the 2007 bubble look small by comparison.
