The Nationals do rank 3rd overall in fWAR, but it’s pretty misleading, and illustrates why fWAR might not be too useful in narrow timeframes. ERA has its own problems, but the Nats rank 22nd in that category. Their fWAR is mostly being driven by a very low HR rate and a decent walk rate. The problem is that they don’t miss bats, they’ve allowed the 3rd highest hard-hit rate and the league’s highest BABIP, leading to the 5th highest WHIP, and so I don’t expect them to sustain such a low HR rate-not when their pitchers are otherwise getting pelted and don’t have great stuff. (The Mets’ pitching staff is similarly overperforming thanks to an unsustainably low HR rate, but they have the league’s worst walk rate, and their BABIP is going to rise. I fully expect the wheels to totally come off for the Mets as their pitching regresses. The Nats might not collapse like that, but I don’t think they’ll flirt with the .500 mark all year, either.)
I guess they didnt mention him because is not a top prospect for the Nats. He is playing awesome right now but he is the 21st ranked prospect for the team.
on the mike trout wear and tear, him and other OFs should train more like basketball players to keep legs in better health. High minute players run 3-4-5-6 miles every game/day for years and most dont have a serious leg injury until a collision or landing funny off of a drive to the rim.
I think the Padres city connect jerseys are a fantastic Miami city connect jerseys. Top 3. But since they're San Diego, it's the most ridiculous looking jersey and is in my bottom of jerseys
The Nats’ pitching staff does, in fact, rank third in fWAR so far this season. It’s an early-season mirage IMO, as it’s mostly driven by a very low HR rate. Their league-worst opponents’ BABIP has helped push them down to 22nd in ERA, but of course, fWAR is based on FIP. Meanwhile, they don’t miss bats, their walk rate is middle of the pack, and their HR rate is likely to regress, so I suspect something’s going to give before too long. (I’m a Mets fan, and they’re in a similar situation, except that their problem is walks rather than hits. Both teams’ pitching staffs are going to collapse, though.)
