Personally I HATED ties when I was younger, they felt uncomfortable around my neck and I could never tie one right..it wasn't until I actually found the video on knots by this channel in my early 30's that I finally was able to tie a proper neck tie knot. The older I get, the more I want to connect with my great grandpa on my mother's side of the family and he was known for ALWAYS dressing sharp. Full suit, tie, hat, cuffs, the works..even when he was having a day off..heck I think they buried him with his favorite hat (not sure on that, have to ask my aunt) and seeing him so sharply dressed makes me want to try and look that sharp. I have a tie, it's old, a little small cause it was for when I was about 10 years younger and a little shorter and less round, but I still find use for it, I'll pull it out at least once a week or every other week to practice tying a proper knot so I know how to do it, gotta work that muscle memory to keep it fresh. If you look at movies, ties are often worn by either the most awesome spies or the most charismatic villains..it's like the modern day version of a cape. Darth Vader was so memorable because he cut such a striking figure and that cape was a big part of that, you see a guy with a tie the first thought is usually "that person has to be important or really professional". I may not always wear a necktie but I gotta say it's a classic look that screams "I'm being serious about this" and so it'll likely be a long time before it goes away for good..but even then, fads can come back around and be popular again or be popular among a smaller group of people.
@TheDarkKnot

So glad you took the time to look at those tie knot tutorials! It is a classic look and allows people to stand out on occasion, especially if they don’t wear ties to work on a regular basis. I had a teacher who never wore a tie, and never enjoyed much respect from the students, either. Same school, the Head Custodian always wore a tie (might be a safety violation now) because "all work is honorable." Individuality is a good point. I've seen more individuality in the suited corporate world than in ultra-casual jeans-and-a-tee-shirt settings. With suits, sport coats, or blazers I always start with a tie but might remove it for the reasons you mentioned. Starting with the tie lets me "dress down" if I feel it appropriate; "dressing up" from casual is harder to manage. I like your thinking!

Just wear a suit with the top buttons open - the tie was originally designed to accentuate a button-up shirt because an undecorated collar looks odd otherwise. So they added ties and all the crap you had to wear before ties. Ties are the latest neck decor. Add a pocket square if you really want to be uptight about it. I can tell you as someone who had to wear a tie that doing so is a plague. It is one of the worst things ever. I avoid ties whenever possible. I honestly feel sorry for anybody who has to wear a tie every day.

A major benefit of wearing a tie is that you can economically dress differently every day. Because one blue suit, worn with three obviously different ties, on staggered rotation, equates to three different outfits in the eyes of most of the people in the workplace. Phil.

The necktie one the battle because the comparison was being done by someone who wanted to convince us that a tie is the best option. And many of those points were very relevant. Even I agree they can look good. However the wearing of a tie has been reducing at an ever increasing rate (a trend that was starting well before corona). To me a tie screams: wedding, funeral, or job interview. Outside of that, especially in a hot climate, it’s a tradition I’m happy to see dying off.

I wear a tie almost every day! I'm rarely wearing a suit though. Most of my ties are from the 1930's and are quite short which compliment by build and are mainly more casual wool, rather than silk. I think men need to learn that the tie can be worn with many outfits other than the suit. Cardigans, Sport Coats, V-Necks, and even some casual jackets can work.

I never had any doubt about this: wearing a suit, a blazer, any kind of jacket like these, a tie is mandatory. When I don't want to use a tie, I'll go with other types of jackets: bomber jackets, suede jackets, parkas, whatever. Well, sometimes, even with some of these, I also use ties :)

Antonio thanks for putting these great and informative content on youtube . My opinion would be to always keep a contrast when you wear layers in an outfit , the innermost layer and the outside layer should have a sharp contrast , this can be done by colour, texture or even prints . Because it draws attention to the face and chest and also shows a lot of creativity without doing so much work . Antonio , and the answer to the question you asked will be that - yes , neckties are classic and also fashionable . You can bring a lot of fun patterns and colours because it's an accessory . I think it also makes a man look high status and makes him standout from other men .

Time and place for both. I do wedding photography so being super ultra formal is not always needed. I can get away with a little bit looser style. Everything goes seasonal for me. Warmer weather I can get away with a short sleeve button up with a playful pattern that I leave a couple buttons nonchalantly unbuttoned, with a woven pair of loafers and some no shows. In the early spring winter or late fall I go for it. Break out the accessories. Break out the patterned and textured pieced that I don’t wear the other times of the yr. it’s all about having fun with it and more times than not a good ice breaker and conversation piece. But it’s good to know and understand the basics and some of the more formal guidelines because more times than not I’m helping the groom as well as the others put themselves together. That only benefits me in the long run when they look sharp in the pictures.

I make it a point to wear some kind of neckwear whether it’s a tie or an ascot everyday. I don’t have to doing anything in particular. It could be as simple as walking my dog, getting a cup of coffee, or going to the supermarket. The only exception is if I’m wearing a turtleneck of course. Neckwear has a way of completing an outfit, while allowing you to inject your personality. It makes you look more put together, and if done right, can bring about instant credibility and respect.

A tie is maybe the most masculine accessory there is. It is not necessary, but neither is a watch or a pocketsquare. Accessories make the difference between putting clothes on, and getting dressed.

True. Recently I've started wearing more dress shirts with dress pants cause I wanted to get a more versatile look, and every now and then i Iike to get dressed up in a full suit and tie.

GREAT video Antonio!! I pretty much always wear the necktie. Toss on a blazer nice jeans and dress boots. That is my uniform. My wife loves it. Work respects it. I have been stopped by women on the street who just want to compliment my appearance. I am not an adonis. 64, fit with a full headvof grey hear. Life is good!!

If you wear a suit you should wear a tie. Sport jacket, optional. If you don’t want to wear a tie then why not just wear faded blue jeans with holes. If your shirt collar is restrictive buy a shirt that fits.

ties is part of the classic style great investment and will never go out of style. I refined my style to only classic menswear , donated my old clothes away. not big balling but got my dress shirt count up for 15 shirts mixture of regular and french cuff, got enough ties to not have to wear the same one again for 2 weeks if I wear one everyday, got a nice set of blazers , denim jeans, chinos, and 3 suits.

I’m dressing casual bc of COVID, but as soon as I can, I’m wearing my Brooks Brothers dress shirt and dress pants and my Hermes neckties. Because I go to the office daily, I have clothes that goes straight to the washer when I get home. I take care of my work clothes and I haven’t been to the dry cleaners since March.

Team necktie. But it depends on the tie size and color, plus the jacket, blazer and suit combination.

It depends on the environment. I rarely wear a tie when I am in my office unless I know I have a meeting. Instead, I wear use a collar stay to keep my collar up with/without a jacket. However, when I am in a meeting, teaching a class, or giving a presentation, I wear a jacket and tie. I do not feel comfortable wearing a tie without a jacket. This is my general rule.

Hi Antonio. Could you make a video about bowties and how to be stylish wearing one? It is hard to find videos talking about bowties or/and explaining why did they became less and less popular over time. Loved the video and also your video's new kind of intros btw. Very creative! 👍

I don't hope that it ever will be obsolet. If there is a special occasion you will look much better with a tie. And it is possibly an esteem to the people around you.

Currently i am doing my first full time job in a IT department in college and i always wanted to look professional “more like makes me feel luxurious” so i wear tie and proper dress in casual environment everyday and some students/work colleagues make fuss about it like calling me accountant and what not but but i have noticed i get more respect and importance over others which is worth it and even some girls in my department feels more comfortable talking to me and it’s kind of attracts lot of people to reach out for you to get things done when something is up. First day was awkward as people thought i was some really young professor or something but now i dress like this everywhere i go mostly.

Neckties are definitely not obsolete. Although I admit there are now times where I embrace rocking an open collar there will always be times when the situation dictates the class and dapper nature of a well-knotted necktie.

My job has a casual dress code and I only wear a suit for special occasions. However, when I put on a suit, I want to look good and find I do get treated better. A suit symbolizes power and authority. I see the attorneys in my office wearing them all the time. It's an informal rank system.
