Is The Nelson Replacement Any Good? 

I cannot believe they added this instead of the Rodney, the more famous sister ship of the Nelson.

Got Collingwood as the first drop. She's utter shit. Guns are very inaccurate, feel like they lack pen, and are just too few. And on top of that, you get blasted out your ass by overmatch and don't have a superheal to deal with it. I would gladly swap the reload booster for at least 32mm side plating.

I'm glad I got the Nelson while it was still available for FreeXP. It's fun to sit in a kiting position and tank a bit more damage with the added armor on the stern. I don't feel the need to get the Collingwood, but nice game!

Worth noting that the Collingwood has *significantly* better AP penetration than the Nelson, especially at long ranges. Certainly not enough to make up for all the short comings. I think they needed to lean into its glass cannon aspect a bit more, give it battlecruiser dispersion, or something like that.

I went against it in a Minsk before I knew about it's reload and consumables. I didn't really play the best during that match with juking and smokes, and the big British HE hurt, especially with the reload he had. Was pretty hard to know what to do when I could only get some salvoes in before his shots would come in sooner than expected.

I got lucky and had it in my first box. Im a 56% Winrate player who mains Battleships and cruisers and I have to say this ship is interesting, but challenging to play right, and sort of situational. Notable is the difference in shell velocity and mediocre dispersion at range, which makes this ship a better HE sniper at long range (faster HE shells and a 47% fire chance base per bullet almost guarantees a fire with each salvo) while at closer range, the improved AP (compared to the nelson) may not give you additional overmatch, but boy does it punch through armor regardless, giving me more citadel hits than Nelson does. The reload booster is good enough to provide 3 salvos where normally only two are possible, which can be extremely helpful when trying to finish off a low HP target, catching someone broadside, or when someone just waited for you to shoot before they engage, thus allowing you to catch them off-guard. Also noteworthy is the improved maneuverability over Nelson, which allows you to get into position more quickly. Call me crazy, but I personally have good success with this ship as a medium to close range ship. I wouldnt recommend brawling a german battleship, but the hydro, fast fire rate and immense penetration for your tier allows you to punch most ships back into the port while you definately suffer damage, but played well, you win the trade and can hopefully obliterate your opponent before you wait for your Reload booster to come off cooldown. You definately need island cover though, because this ship really hates HE and long range battleship cannons. Its definately a ship i dont expect to survive most games in, as it IS squishy as hell and gets focus fired a lot, but until then, you can definately cause trouble to BBs, cruisers and DDs, which cant be said for many battleships in the game. Use cover! I cant stress that enough. Your citadel extends into the bow and rear section. A last thing that is noteworthy is the 360° middle turret, as this makes kiting and running away a little less painful and it has pretty decent rear firing angles. It isnt much, but at least you can fight back when retreating and makes the gameplay more smooth. So, overall, i think this ship is very situational, but when it works, it works well and is fun. I like it over the Nelson, which I personally find boring to play. I dont think it is stronger than Nelson though. But definately a sidegrade with a bigger amplitude of game impact, depending heavily on the Map and your opponents.

Nelson's armour is already hot piss when uptiered, and boy am I lucky I got that with free xp because I see no reason to get this thing. Glass cannon types, which I believe is what the Collingwood is, don't really work in this game because of RNG, and they end up being more glass than cannon.

Any chance you could take a look at the Weimar. I just wish they would add another 1.5 too the range. It could be a great Tier 8 boat.

You know what WG could have done? HMS Rodney at Tier 8 32mm bow and stern Same superheal as the Nelson Same gun specks as the Nelson And add the TORPEDOES!!!! (this fits the early access event as well :P) Do this and I'm sure it will sell like Hot cakes!

bro i struggled with battleships... this is the only battleship i got that gave me a good experience and change my perspective on battleships in total

Looks like its a good t7 bb since there is no lenin ship on t7 and the hydro in combination with the reload booster are really helpful.

already have a nelson, and got the collingwood first try for 1,000 dubs. i happen to think she is fantastic.

I can't believe they added another Nelson type BB and didn't give her torps especially since the flavor of the line is BBs with torps.

Bought 5 crates, and got it. Ive played a few games in it, and I do enjoy it. Guns can be inconsistent for sure, but you can really punish people that dont realize you have a reload booster

What they could have done is instead of her, adding the sistership HMS Rodney. Like compared to Nelson she could have had underwater torpedoes like the British BC (Rodney and Nelson had them), but in exhange she won't get the superheal and the HE will be slightly weaker

I have the Rooke. It is okay for coop. It's citadel isn't much above the water line like the rest of the line.

It's a Nelson that traded guns, armor, and the heal gimmick for some stat tweaks and other, possibly less useful gimmicks. The reload booster is the most powerful consumable in the game but it's not a one-size-fits-all deal. I'd say Nelson is still the better ship simply due to being able to survive longer by virtue of the heal and a surprisingly troll armor belt when you're kiting (key word: kiting). I didn't get it in the first bundle, and I'm not going to whale for it anyways, so if I get it in the five bundles I plan on buying, cool, I'll edit this comment with my first hand thoughts, otherwise oh well, I'll get it out of a crate come Christmas and probably ignore it. Edit: I wouldn't be surprised if Collingwood is only in the bundles for now, since they did the same thing with Toulon, and that's not in the premium shop or armory (yet)/

It's nice i got the Nelson for free xp a lonng time ago, the HE is insane. You can basically hunt dd's with HE that good. It is kinda vurnerable, but the heal more then makes up for that. It's very nice for pushing in or sitting in mid range farming everything in range. Altough i think Nelson is better, the Collingwood looks interesting.

i already have a Nelson that only gets played twice a year, i don't need to pay dubs for any port queen. if it comes out for coal i may get it after about 12 other ships first.

Nelson is so goofy. She's slow but the HE is insane. Glad I got Nelson when I did and Collingwood is not worth getting at all.

I have it.. it's alright. fun to play.. bit slow though... more fun than colorado i would argue. would also argue isn't much fun when you have nothing to shoot at... as in the flank you go has no targets.

Yes, I'm talking of Nelsol, or more precisely her sister, Rodnol who used her to keep farming her Witherer achievement on a lonely Bismarck Still, as someone who think that the Nelson already has a high skill floor of knowing what's the precise angle to engage the enemy and when to push and reverse, that worst Nelson definitely not for me

It can be overmatched 11inch guns in bow.

Nelson is slow af and its dispersion is a trollfest. You can shoot all day and not hit anything and some of those salvos aimed at you are exceptional examples of that (like the 1 turret shots from 8:05 where shell land front, left AND right and misses perfectly). This is brutal and stupid from the game. And kiting Nelson has to present a significant amount of broadside to shoot all those guns, Collingwood doesn´t seem to have that problem. With a slightly higher speed and hydro to prevent too many hits this can be useful sidegrade to Nelson. About that Gorizia vs. Mexico - Gorizia was 14k hp cruiser shooting SAP, NM was 36k hp BB. Cruiser was definitely the better target, especially due to occasional broadside presented (shooting all guns at you). The thing that killed NM was your submarine who took massive hp from him and of course in t6-8 match playing with Enterprise on your team against Parseval helps a ton

Its a t6 hull with t8 guns, that almost NEVER works out, even in reverse. Look at the Florida, t7.5 hull with t6.5 guns.

It seems like Nelson is better at doing traditional BB things. I'm not sure why this ship exists, beyond making WG some money. Usually 6 gun BB's get better sigma/BC dispersion, fast reload...something to offset the loss of DPM/alpha. But a reload booster? Questionable...add the utter trash armor scheme and I'll take Nelson all day, every day, twice on Sunday as the saying goes.

Business model behind this: Remove great Freemiums. Add shit Premiums which are similiar. People who dont own the good ones buy the replacements out of the desire to get something like a Nelson or Alaska. Then when they re disappointed, they ll cash in again on Black Friday etc. Double profit.

Yeah, seems like a worse Nelson imo, the crap armour was made up for by the super heal, the bigger guns have no benefit other than reducing the amount of shells in the air

She's definitely not the best I was hoping, and I already have the Nelson for a few years, way bigger guns but they hardly ever hit the target, so, How good are big guns when they can't hit their targets ?? Disappointed to say the least, even with a 19 skill it's doing poorly, I got mine from a random Santa Big Gift Container that I never even bought, no money involved.... At first, I thought I was pretty lucky to get a new ship, but boy was I disappointed, if you don't have this ship and think about buying her, don't buy her, even with a 19 skill it's not making any difference...

The days of buying the latest premium ship are over for me. With wows nickle and diming us to death I'm done with all that. It's an economic fight to keep as much of my money as I can and still play. It now seems more like a job than fun. That can't last much longer.

yeah, KGV is still the best T7 UK BB. Nelson is horrible, and Nelson with only 6 guns sounds horrible.

Still feels like Bullshit that what is effectively ACTIVE SONAR cant find a sub till hes RIGHT NEXT TO YOU. world of warships if far from realistic, so for god sake why cant it detect subs at max range?! Hell they already made radar useless vs subs since you can't radar their Periscopes anymore. But no Subs have to 100% invisible torpedo spam. Because what is counterplay?

Subs are absolutely broken. There is almost no defense against them. Hydro is a joke against subs and depth charges barely do any damage. Once a sub targets you you are screwed.
