The Type R is already a stout performer and for 2020 Honda has taken it to a new level. There are some changes that have been done that allow the Civic Type R to perform even greater. Under the hood is a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 306HP & is mated to a slick shifting 6-speed manual gearbox. The Type R has suspension and braking updates, plus a new color called Boost Blue. On the outside there have been changes to the front fascia, grill and rear bumper. On the inside you are greeted to an Alcantara wrapped steering wheel and all new shift knob. Is the 2021 Honda Civic Type R the even BETTER hot hatch?

It would be if you could get it at MSRP. But you can’t which puts it closer to 42-50k depending on which shitbox dealer you’re talking to, and there are better cars at those price points.

James D yea it’s hard to get one at a good price due to demand but there aren’t any cars at that price point that give you the same functionality or experience as the Type R.

How often do you clean the rocks out of your brakes?

@@P4INKillers I’ve had to remove 2 rocks from the brakes in 12K miles, both times after driving through a crappy road under construction. Didn’t have to remove the wheel to get the rock out either time. It’s annoying when it happens but it doesn’t happen often.

Best review of the Type R I've seen. Not only your enthusiasm during your drive, but no factual errors like I see in so many other reviews. Also a nice discussion of the aerodynamics I have not seen elsewhere.

BEAUTIFUL in that color! I also love how Honda continues to offer this in 3 pedal manual only. Thank you again for all the great work. I was fortunate enough to be in a Type R and the aerodynamics in this car are no joke. Going triple digits in it feels like you are going only 50 MPH! A car like this continues to prove you do not have to be super-wealthy to have a well balanced driving machine! Well done Honda and well done to those able to buy one to show the car industry we do not want cars like this to go away. Keep up the great work Joe!

Been enjoying the content over the last few months. Back in 1996-1998 I built up a 92 Mustsng Fox body. Set it up for more of a road/handling car than drag. Added a Vortex S-trim and would hit that same road and the other two good ones just east. I loved that area and the roads. Fast forward 22 years and we have a home on 3 acres on one of those roads. I get to enjoy listening and guessing what type of cars other enthusiasts are zipping around in. Sundays are best. I love it. I took a run in my weekend/fun car tonight. A 70k mile AP1 S2000. Took the twisty way to the farmers market lol.

Has to subscribe my 02 honda broke down and I was scrambling to find a car to buy as a family man I really can't be without one and I saw your corolla apex review and was sold! Whent and bought one the next day only 2 in the state of nevada and I own one of them, the dealership didn't realize they were selling me an apex and sold it to me as a regular SE cause nobody knew what it was it's so new and I got it for 27 out the door, all because your review of it I knew what I was buying more than they knew what they were selling me thank man!!!

Your enthusiasm Joe as always is ON THROTTLE!!! 😁 If you were impressed with the stock performance you’d be beside yourself with the overall power delivery,traction control and smoothness of a Hondata and Phearable Stage 2 Tune. It’s night and day Brother. I had that tune on my 2019 all stock parts Type R…worth the upgrade! Just traded in that 80k mile car….no issues whatsoever!…for a Blueberry Boost Blue with 8 miles. Would be interesting to see your review of a modified donor vehicle(any future reviews etc.) so that your audience can see how a couple of mods can change a vehicles personality. Great video as always Joe! Glad I subscribed a while back!

I think they did a good job getting rid of a lot of the fake grilles 👍🏻 that shift knob is nice and those throws look so smooth 😩 and Tbh I don't think it would be a Civic without the prop rod 😎 Overall, I would have a hard time choosing between this and a something like a Focus RS

@@KLAE25SHOP Hey Paul. I did a test drive and fell in love with it. I wanted to ask if you have had any problems with the transmission? I have seen some reviews from people complaining about shifting issues and actual mechanical problems on their gearboxes ending up in the dealership shop.

@@luisvelazquez2441 for me, theres no transmission issues in my car.. personally, i perfer not to do any modification on my engine or transmission. It will definitely cause issues. On shifting, if u don't push the clutch at the right time it will make those grinding sounds. For me, no problems at all bro..It depends on you how you drive your car... If u are using it for track, it could lead to those issues. If you are using as a daily driving car.. you shouldn't worry about it.. On my car, i add some aftermarkets but not the engine. Ill keep it stock..

exactly, even the physics backs it up, due to weight transfer fwds tend to shine on the corners, even cars that arent 'race cars' do really well around corners. my acura ilx despite basically being an automatic civic si, is crazy on the corners, i have stock suspension so theres quite a bit of body roll but even with that i can take corners hella quick!

Love the Bruce Blue dude! Honda definitely has mastered and crafted the Type R model to a "T". Love the Honda performance when it comes to the driving experience as well as interior and exterior. Joe was in the zone driving those roads 😆. Price point is pretty reasonable and worth money. Great review Joe, well done 👍🏿.

The civic type r is the best fwd like the Hyundai Veloster N or any other fwd, other people are saying that a fwd is awful to drive but they don’t know that the type r is the best fwd that can roast any other vehicle like a fwd or rwd, The civic type r is the king of the hot hatch period.

Neighbor got this in the same boost blue color, it handles on rails. Absolute demon on corners and feels amazing, he's let me drove it and for the $ it is the best thing you can get on the market.

Wow! The civic has come a long way! Had a 2001 Prelude type sh I bought new & loved it!! Sold it two years later to get a s2000. Wish the would bring back the prelude.. Great review!
