Is the New 3DS worth it?

I've had the New 3DS for several months now, is it worth the upgrade? Compared to the OLD 3DS, the NEW 3DS is snappier, sleeker and a better experience overall. The OLD 3DS does what it's meant to do, play 3DS games. The extra features on the newer model enhances the experience further.

Your New 3DS is slower in bootup if it has a larger memory compared to the old one. Because it takes time to load up all the games on the system. So the more games you have, the longer the time.

some games require the old 3ds to enter an “expanded memory mode” so they can run properly, which disables the internet browser and miiverse while the game runs closing the game makes the console disable this mode which is why it restarts

Fun fact about the New3ds : The cpu defaults to old 3ds settings when playing 3ds games that weren't updated to work better on the n3ds However you can force the better clock rate and L2 cash with homebrew, which makes games like pokemon ora run at an almost perfect 60fps even when the 3d is on (Also helps a lot with games like mgs3)

I really enjoy the original 3ds, It's very nostalgic and it looks great. But for playing it honestly could be better. It's so glossy it get fingerprint marks so easily and it scratches so much. It's cool just for displaying honestly. The New 3ds is much better imo

While the N3DS has the better performance and 3D, I think I still prefer the original. It’s the most premium-feeling one and I like the colors it comes in. Plus the SD card placement on the N3DS would really annoy me so I’ll stick with my aqua blue version. Update: Got a N2DSXL.

Without installing a custom firmware to your console, I'd say an n3DS is not worth it, except if you plan on playing n3DS enhanced games, like the Monster Hunter games, since with all the other games, it acts exactly like a 3DS. Just without the useful wireless switch, that's now in software, burried behind 500 other entries. And I found the head tracking to be a bit unreliable and wish there was an option to disable it, because sometimes it'll just shift the 3D away from the working position. But, why would you not install a custom firmware to your 3DS? The biggest benefit is easily utilizing the n3DS' full power. Someone already mentioned, that with cfw, you can force the n3DS' better cpu to actually do things. And that's when it gets really interesting. You get to play a lot 3DS games way smoother, like Zelda - A Link between Worlds runs at 60fps with 3D on, same for Rayman 2. Though be careful. There are games that don't like the n3DS' extra horsepower. I 100%ed Rayman 2 and in exactly one level in one specific cutscene, the n3DS at full power would crash. Though that was years ago and the only game I found that crashed that way. Unfortunately, you won't notice much with your MGS3 3D test, since that game is locked at 20fps...
@GameBoy10115
@GameBoy10115 Год назад
Interesting, I do have the New 3ds Modded, but I have not looked into trying to use the extra horsepower in games. I have heard like previous comments about games being performanced locked to the Old 3DS specifications. I didn't speak about the modded benefits , but maybe that could be a future video.

If your O3DS has a smaller SD card than your N3DS, then that would likely explain why the start up time is longer when turning the console on. Also for Pokemon games, it's not that the frames drop "every now and then" on the O3DS. They drop literally every time a Pokemon uses a move. I played through X&Y multiple times on my O3DS, and this was very consistent. The N3DS doesn't quite get rid of this entirely, but it *definitely* helps. The N3DS is definitely worth it if you have the money. I would just recommend going for the N3DS XL or N2DS XL versions since the non-XL is more expensive due to it being released in NA later than Japan.

New 3DSes or 2DS XLs are definately worth it if you 1. Want to force extra or more stable performance on old 3DS games that didn't have a New 3DS mode (especially useful with 3D on) 2. Want to play a lot of homebrew content that requires the New 3DS (at least at the moment) 3. Want to try emulating 5th gen consoles like N64 (although it'll still be somewhat poor) It's probably not worth the upgrade if the price difference is $100 or more and you only intend to play old 3DS games. The price difference isn't as big with Japanese consoles though.

"If you're not a stickler for frame rates." Hahaha! 💯facts! The human eye can see 30-60 fps, but you'll have some with their panties wedged up in a bunch talking about how you MUST play such and such game at 60 fps. Who says? If I play a game at 25 or 20 fps and enjoy it then that's on me.

@seseiSeki
@seseiSeki Год назад
The thing with human eyes only seeing between 30-60 fps and people striving for more and more fps is because a screen might not have a new image, when the eyes want one. So if you show more frames than the eye can see, the probability of the eye having a new image every time it wants one is very high. But if 20 is enough for you, count yourself lucky, that you don't need more :D

Short but entertaining video! Btw, do you have a New 3DS XL to compare the New 3DS with? I wanna know if games truly look better on the smaller screen since both have the same resolution. Also, how do DS games look on the New 3DS? Most of the games I want to play are DS games.
@seseiSeki
@seseiSeki Год назад
DS games look the same on all 3DS models. You can hold Start or Select while launching non-3DS games to get them to display in their original resolution instead of upscaled and filtered. If you mostly want to play DS games, I'd suggest getting a DSi XL. It doesn't have to boot the 3DS OS, just to reboot into DS mode and back to the 3DS OS, when shutting down or switching games. Plus, DSi XLs always have IPS LCDs for top and bottom screen, unlike 3DS family consoles, that sometimes have TN, sometimes IPS and sometimes a mix of both. If you're bothered by the size of the DSi XL, a DSi might be a good choice, but unfortunately, it's speakers are not that great. That's something the n3DS XL really has going for it. The best speakers I've heard in a Nintendo handheld.
@lucykaede5863
@lucykaede5863 Год назад
Damn I didn't know the DSI XLs had IPS screens that's really awesome! Not even the 3Ds systems had those. I honestly thought of getting a DSi XL too but I already have a fully modded 2DS and PS Vita so I'm worried it'll be too much. So I was thinking of upgrading my 2DS in the future with a New 3DS or just get an R4 card and load that on my 2DS. I'm really liking that the DSi XL has good speakers like you mentioned though. Only one speaker on the 2DS that sucks and is too soft most of the time.
@GameBoy10115
@GameBoy10115 Год назад

@seseiSeki Год назад
@@lucykaede5863 Oh, you misunderstood me. I said the n3DS XL has great speakers and the DSi has bad ones. DSi XL speakers are ok. Every Nintendo handheld has a bit of a static hiss sound from the speakers, even when the volume is turned off. The only way to completely remove it, is to plug in headphones. You won't hear it at normal volumes or if there's other sounds in your surroundings, but the DSi XL has the loudest static hiss. (at least my model, which I bought used, so maybe there is something wrong with it, but I kinda doubt that)
