The A35 is by far the best car I have ever driven. It's so quick through corners with some nice pops n bangs. You can feel the AMG DNA. As an entry level pretty good balanced imo.
I feel that those interior screens really divide opinions. Some really hate it as they prefer buttons while others love it. Anyway, can't wait for the A45!

Great overview - took an A35 out for a test drive and liked it. Love the interior and performance was good. Only problem is styling pack is essential for me - without it the car just looks too bland and pretty much like any other A series. Threatening £40k after that though (after a few other extras) takes it too far away from some other options then.
I've driven both these cars recently and ended up buying a used A45 AMG. The A35 is very nice, feels like a normal like car with good performance and more gadgets inside, but 0.5 secs slower than the old A45 AMG is a HUGE amount :) The old A45 AMG feels much more animalistic and more fun. Now the upcoming new AMG A45 will be a different animal....
I’d honestly rather the newer better car that looks better and goes around corners better whilst being more engaging... I’d much rather hit 60 0.5 seconds slower for all the above.👍🏻
@@philmountain9290 I didn't find the handling that much different with the new car, in fact because of its nature, I went round a roundabout unknowingly slower than the A45, the seats don't hug you like in the A45, and noise is quieter. It just doesn't want to be driven as quick.
First off well done for using ft/lb in association with BHP. Really annoys me when people use Newton meters just because the number is bigger. Secondly having 4matic on the side is really cheesy. Reminds me of DAF who put variomatic on their cars in the 60s. The A35 is better looking though 😉. Nice report Stef.
I was told in a car dealership that the a45 amg's engine was a Renault RS engine but tuned up by amg. Looks wise, I prefer the a45amg but normal A classes, this one looks better than the previous model.
@@StefABtv Hi Stef. Well, you know people say many things without being sure of what they are saying but I have also hear that it is not the full engine but the engine block. Is it true or not?? Dont know as well. Its all because of this Renault/Mercedes partnership. The truth is that both cars came out at the same time. Does it mean anything? Who knows... But we all know that in the automobile world, car manufacturers are joining other or using other manufacturers stuff for cost reduction. The engines that today are more used in other manufacturers apart from its own is Fiat, Renault and Peugeot.
Only block...all parts on engine is from mercedes but that is on small engines 1,5 1,8 1,6... Not on big engines like 2,0 , 2,2...that is standard from mercedes , but im not sure what is in a45 i know that is in regular cars 1,5...from mercedes
Your A35 looks sooo much better than the previous A45. I'd go that far saying that this is the best looking hot-hatch money can buy. Neither the S3/Golf R nor the new M135i appeal to me very much. The Civic looks way too cartoonish, the Hyundai has a bland styling imo. That leaves it to the french competitors. However the Megane RS looks pretty stylish though.
coming from a current model RS Megane (Cup) owner, I agree 100%. funnily enough, I'm thinking about replacing the RS with an A35 (especially after driving one on a recent test drive)...I just think that they're a better all round car personally.
The 40k tax is only about £330 a year more than what you pay anyway, in the great scheme of buying one of these newish, it’s nothing and I don’t see why people shit themselves about it.
What do you mean??? The A35 is a 2 liter, same performance as VW's TOP golf... and the same as an S3... What the fuck is wrong with that? They want to fill the market
Great Video Stef. I was wondering why A35 does not have the AMG badge on the engine! Is it worth getting one of this or waiting for the new A45 that'll be engineered by AMG?
Hey Stef, amazing video and editing as always :) Before you sold your a45, you were doing some research about tuning it. I was just wondering if it's worth the risk as I really want to break the 400bhp mark and have the power more spread out the RPM range. I know a lot of people have tuned them and added decat downpipes and intakes, but I just wanted to know your opinion.
If you are referring to tuning the a45 of old then 400bhp it will be fine. To be fair I did a lot of research and people with tuned cars to 430bhp have reported no issues. Just let it do it’s warm up process and gearbox warm up and it will be fine
The Mercedes A35 AMG is an absolute monster! Gorgeous interior, spectacular performance and great sound. It really is better value for money than the new A45 that will release.
seen more A35s than old A45s . it looks amazing with the aero pack. better than the old model. sounds as good. better interior and tech. BUT the engine isnt as good , the handling isnt on par. But as an overall package the A35 is hard to ignore due to what it does better, which is plenty of things
@@erikhuds certainly I think the 35 may have more play. the old A45 is a bit one dimensional but is very precise and fast (post 2016 models ) . the a35 would never be able to match the 45 for pace in any scenario I dont think. dont forget that while the rs3 is more powerful than the A45, its chassis is not as good and the A45 claws back any pace disadvantages with superior handling. the main criticism other than dull drive is the A45 is very stiff , while this is not great for road driving, it is great for handling . the new A45 and A45s, now that's another matter entirely. cant comment on those.
When a manufacturer brings a downgraded version of a already hectic car... it always sucks. Because you know it’s been detuned and cheapened. I’d rather pay more and wait for the a45s Amg. Yes it’s probably expensive but why you trying to buy one when you can’t afford the cheapest Amg? Get a golf
It’s really not great to drive compared to the A45 and I would definitely go for a Golf R for a lot less, ask any honest person who works at Mercedes and they will tell you this is a tuned a250 and not worthy of the amg badge
Im waiting for the A45s... But having driven the A35 and A 250 myself, and loads of the old A45's. The A35 is an awesome car, its not that loud, but it does sound good :) Needs an aftermarket exhaust though
Maybe the engine isn't AMG worthy. But the A35 does have AMG suspension and brakes and is the best car I have ever driven. Much better than Golf R or Audi S3.
You should never compare a old to a new car... Trust me, as a daily driver, the A35 is much more modern :) If you want a cool car, get yourself a used C63 AMG, those are epic, and work well for everyday use
Do you have to wait 8 minutes or drive a few miles before you can use all of the power? I remember hearing that the old a45 had some sort of weird limiter?
Boris Bolshoi I’ve got an A45, think you’re thinking of the gearbox temperature. Takes around 8-11 miles to be fully warm before you can start launching and it’s optimum. Bit annoying but at least you know it’s warm! 😊
that limit is for using the launch control. So you won't be able to use launch control on a cold engine/gearbox etc. Anyway using launch mode is not good for the car anyway, so shouldn't be using it to often. Apparently the dealership can also see when you have been using it and under what condition, it can void the warranty if done to frequently (so I've heard)
Once again we get robbed here in North America as the Eu patiently anticipates the A45 we get the A35 here alone so while our friends overseas get the big boy we make due with the A35 which will come at a premium of course and leave the Golf R at the top of the hill as far as hatchbacks go here in North America. The Golf R will inevitably be at least 10k cheaper for equal performance and the option of a manual can’t be beat.
Lucky enough to run a Mercedes garage and drive these stunning cars! Can’t wait for the new 45 to come out end of the year, going to be the 2nd quickest Amg to 60 that’s for sure behind the e63! If any one is interested in buying a Mercedes message me and you can have it cost price!
So tempting but how can you buy a 85K AUD hot hatch that has literally no sound? Current opf delete exhausts sound pathetic and require a remap so bye bye warranty. When there is a fix for this I think this car will be much loved but currently the hate for this car's lack of external sound is overwhelming . Don't forget what you hear in the cabin is not the sound outside...it is pumped through speakers
I'm hanging on to my A45 FL, this A35 (driven) and the new A45s are disappointing... They sound mundane and imho don't have that aggressive edge anymore...EU laws are butchering new cars at the moment.
When they get the software sorted in this car it will be a good effort, however I had one delivered at the end of March and so far it has been in the garage trying to be fixed for 40 days out of the 60 I’ve owned it - car still not fixed! Poor effort from Merc - wouldn’t buy another! Back to Audi for me...
I'd rather have the proper AMG over this fake one IMO. Not sold on the rear of the car and not a big fan of the huge screens. Maybe I am a little old fashioned 🤣
Brian Woods i’ve driven both, a45 was faster (but was mapped for over 600Nm) but had problems with traction, so why do you need that extra power. A35 has no problems with traction (better 4 matic). It can use some more power, that is why there is a new a45(s) comming. Keep in mind the a35 can be mapped to 360hp which we will do in near future to ours ;)
@@insanitybe mines stock and has absolutely no issue with traction. I've driven it hard and still yet to lose grip. Even with that extra power it still won't be as quick nor sound as good. It's also not an AMG engine 💩
Brian Woods but the torquey one we drove had a lot of traction problems when launching from a stand still which made it feel slower. It is true it’s not originally made by amg but they did customize it a lot even the engine internals to achieve higher rpm. With the 360hp it would be 4,2 sec to 60mph and that for a price way lower then the a45. Stock it sure is slower then yours but with the additional hp i think it would be the same or even faster. But new a45 will be a another story of course. Yes it’s not as loud but the pops and bangs are loud. Maybe an aftermarket exhaust would be a solution to make it a bit more rough sounding
