I actually traded in my 18 Camry SE for an AWD Altima SL and I’m glad I did. For the same lease price I got a car with way more features, things the Camry doesn’t offer like semi-autonomous driving, heated steering wheel, fog lights, remote start (key and app), among others. The Altima has way more comfortable seats, Bose speakers, satellite radio, and it’s quieter inside. The Camry had a flimsy tin can exterior and a jerky transmission. I have no complaints at all with the CVT and there is a sport setting that does improve throttle response for those high speed drives. That’s my experience between the two.
Planefixer1 we had a 14 Pathfinder and the CVT never worked right. Got rid of it quick. Luckily didn’t take a financial bath. Would have a year later as the CVT transmission reputation got more known.
People don't know how to drive a manual transmission. So my reply means nothing but I get 4.2 second 0 to 60 in my cvt transmission. The cvt is not a problem for me but I don't ever put my vehicle in drive
My grandmother drives a 2012 Nissan Morano. Came home one day pissed because she thought here transmission was broken🤣. I had to explain the characteristics of a CVT to her. "Won't shift"
The Camry is an okay car. The exterior is very nice but the interior look like it was supposed to be in the 2004 model. The Altima is nice exterior and interior.
The Apple car play when the phone is connected is really good. Totally hands free navigation & texting really good speakers, & Siri is really good at voice determination when driving.
We’ve had Nissan’s with CVTs in our family and not a single problem with any of them. Just got 150K miles out of a 2012 Quest and had no indication of any CVT problems and traded it in for a 2016 Quest. Maintenance was done by the book I should also mention. It seems to me the ones with 4-cylinders have had the majority of problems. I’ve had experience with the Murano’s and Maxima’s as well which have the bulletproof VQ V6. My friend who also has a Subaru Legacy with a CVT has over 200k miles on his and no problems so take care of it and it’ll take care of you.
Nah i don't need a new Nissan i am happy with my 99 Nissan Altima 2.4 147 k milles i had it about for 5 months runs great as long it takes you to point A to point B
Does not look more aggressive then The XSE Camry / TRD Camry which look the most aggressive in the class. That Camry’s base engine can not be beat. Good power believe it’s the most powerful base engine in the class.
catsspat my buddy has a 2016 Altima with just a little over 260k and he beats the piss out of it every day lol cvt is reliable if you do the cvt fluid change as recommended every 60k
I wouldn’t buy, lease or rent the Altima, Nissan is making horrible cars at the moment. When Nissan starts making better cars then I’d actually consider them.
Not to mention the business is in financial trouble. Take into account the big recession we're going into I would only buy an auto from companies likely to survive. Ford is in BIG trouble after their credit rating got downgraded to JUNK yesterday also. 😱
The Awakening At this point, a Nissan is at the same level as a Ford or GM product. Hell, it might actually be worse than those two. Crazy how the mighty have fallen.
The Awakening trust I don’t believe you compare every car in Nissan old dated lineup to the Americans and Nissan does not even stand a chance, what vehicle were you talking about the pathfinder?? can’t be that old pos or maybe the rouge or rougue sport??? No that would be laughable oh ok maybe the dinosaur Nissan Frontier yea not at all, oh the murano oh forgot that’s a pos too.
Couple of notes, knowing these cars well, do 0-60 in sport mode (it completely changes the dynamic and shift points of the CVT) and have the driver do the voice commands. Nissan uses directional microphones that pointed directly at the driver so people on the phone don't hear the road noise, and trust me they work really well.
Not sure why TFL continues to do the navigate to Snarfs test as must people dont use in the in car navigation to begin with. Most people like myself will use Andriod auto or Apple CarPlay even when a vehicle is equipped with on board navigation.
My car & my color 😍 but a 2019 I got mine for $15,995 only 25,000 miles though. I love it. Hope it performs better than these harsh comments I’m reading.
A little late on this comment, but I just rented a 2020 Altima and I never heard the CVT drone with the stereo on. My wife's Camry did the exact thing and the automated locks quit working and the ac blower harness kept coming unplugged every six months until I replaced the blower motor.
People that dont even own cars with CVT are on here talking about how bad they are. Somehow cars with CVTs from the late 90s & early 2000s are still on the road with hundreds of thousands of miles. SMH lol
Here's the rub on the cvt conversation! The people that complain about these transmissions, and advocate standards, leave out one important part of their argument! THEY CAN'T DRIVE STANDARDS! LOLOL! It's the truth folks, and as a semi driver for about 20 years, I can guarantee you most think they can, most can't! That's the funny part of that whole conversation, not to mention the fact that it's all about the fuel economy in these cars, not driving dynamics!
Drove a 2020 Nissan Altima SV front wheel drive, as a rental. Found it to be quite quick off the line, certainly much faster than 11s to 60. I had it in Sport mode in City driving, so it had programmed "shift" points with the CVT. It was quick off the line and with from 50-70. Made me think I had a strong V6 under the hood, but it was the standard 4 cylinder non turbo. Maybe the AWD changes the driving dynamics that much. Thanks for your review, keep up the great work.
Please include the phone apps that most manufacturer have now. Example: nissan connect, ford pass, uconnect etc. For the techie viewers like me. Thank you!
The old guy is expecting a lot from a cheap car. But the young one knows how to rationalize car features at a certain price point. It appears like the young one knows better than the old man.
I don't hate CVTs, but Nissan has not done a good job with their CVTs, from what I've heard. Improving their transmissions might just save the company, as well as better interiors.
Not to mention the business is in financial trouble. Take into account the big recession we're going into I would only buy an auto from companies likely to survive. Ford is in BIG trouble after their credit rating got downgraded to JUNK yesterday also. 😱
I don't like the Nissan but he's a mechanic...they fix shit that's broke....just a like a Toyota mechanic, Honda mechanic...and so on...I am sure they all suck if we ask a mechanic.
@@thivakarsaravanamuthu4744 just for the north american market. In the rest of the world they stil have regular cars. In Germany you can get a Ka+, Fiesta, Focus or Mondeo/Fusion.
A Friend of Mine had a Nissan with a CVT Transmissions. She had nothing but problems with it since it was new. It failed at 35,000 miles & Nissan wouldn't warranty it.
@@thivakarsaravanamuthu4744 Trust? It would be hard to trust that tens of millions of cars from 20+ years ago had, & continue to have Rebuilt/Replaced Transmissons in your Grand Conspiracy. 20+ Year old Vehicles with over 200K Miles aren't worth investing Brand new or Rebuilt CVT trans. It's not like these vehicles with CVTs are Collectable. These are commuter cars with good mpg. The idea of ownership is low cost of Maintenance. That's funny though
@@dann4561 Nissan is not using the same CVT transmissions that they used back in the day they are if much lower quality now.. especially after Renault merger!
I'm generally not in favor of leasing for personal finance reasons. But when you lease a car you have the choice to buy it at the end if you like it or turn it back in. I would definitely lease it first and reevaluate when the term is up.
How about a TFL update on the Nissan Lawsuit - Nissan gives $1,100 back on a bad CVT But Won't forgive the loan on the bad deal that will cause $3,000 - $5,000 to fix. Come on TFL.
I had a disappointing experience with Nissan. I purchased a 2015 Altima a few years ago and besides the awful CVT I loved the vehicle. Unfortunately, at 38,000 miles I decided to trade it for a Camry because the transmission had gotten so jerky. If Nissan could focus on quality I feel like they could do so much better.
I'm just here to read the comments from People regurgitating comments from other biassed you tubers on how bad Nissan is and their CVTs are but yet have never owned a Nissan or even put a wrench on any car...smh.
jnagime No, some companies do make good CVT’s, like Toyota and Honda. Even Subaru makes a decent CVT. Nissan on the other hand makes such awful CVT’s that it tarnished the reputation of the entire transmission in general. Nissan CVT’s are literally the worst in the industry.
@@kevinnorris6558 Incorrect...Toyota and Honda have shit CVT's as well. I have a 2013 Accord that's on its 3rd CVT. Honda insisted the CVT fluid is lifetime...in reality ALL CVT's fluid should be changed at 30k miles MAX. Nissan got a bad rep because they said CVT fluid is lifetime as well at first. Thousands and thousands of CVT's died at 40-50k miles because CVT's cannot tolerate old fluid. I change my Honda CVT fluid every 30k miles now and it appears to have fixed the premature death.
I would want the maxima. I want a real v6 and not a 4 cylinder vehicle. Just wished the maxima had AWD. I can’t decide if I want the Maxima or a Murano now. The luck I had with my Camry, I will never own another Toyota.
krazielos Was driving down the highway transmission lost all the gears which over rev the engine and cause 4 out of 6 pistons to shoot out of the block. It only had 35k on it and Toyota wouldn’t cover anything. Made me pay for the rental car, and all the repairs. Then after all the new engine and trans were in it only made it another 5k before it caught on fire. The tech at Toyota didn’t latch the fuel line on right which caused it to caught on fire. That was all back in 2012. Now my grandparents 2015 Highlander is starting to give them problems with a leaking transmission line. They already had the whole power steering system replaced since it failed at 14k.
I wouldn’t trust them with a midsize sedan review any longer. In the video that the manufacturer watches it’s all nice and competitive, but if this car ever gets discontinued they’ll be found saying “when your up against Camry , and accord , you have to BRING IT( blah blah blah) it was ugly , the interior was (kinda) nice , they offered two engines with the same 0-60 which didn’t make any sense while every midsize car has a faster option from the start of its introduction and made available in lower trims , because while they offered the N version , that’s a top trim and not accessible for normal consumers , the Sonata just wasn’t competitive enough in that class of car “ They did it to the 200 and dart. Those cars where great great great on the media drives but once they got discontinued, they all of a sudden they hate the 200 interior materials , and that interior and those materials is the same interior they called a Lexus competitor . I still can’t believe they all did that then bash the car in every (list ) styled video they have.
Do you not check your facts, or does no one fact check you. There are more then just 3 midsize sedans with AWD available or standard in the US market. Did your forget that Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, VW, Acura and even Jaguar make midsize/fullsize sedans with AWD.
Not even in the same breath as a Camry. That thing will be needing a new CVT before the first year is over. Once you had enough visiting the stealership service garage, you will found out that the Nissan trade in or resale value is next to nothing. Ouch.
Nou Long Moua I had the 2019 Altima for a year and a half. No issues. I like the CVT. And I drive a lot 90 miles a day round trip. The only reason I don’t still have it is because I upgraded to a Nissan Maxima, which still has a CVT. Love Nissans.
The people blasting CVTs. im curious of if you actually owned a car with one 1# and 2# if so did you do maintenance as it is called for. im guessin alot are repeating trash are just repeating stuff from other people.
Same people blasting Nissan for the CVT's casually forget that Toyota and Honda makes cars with CVT's as well....trust me, my Accord CVT has gone out 2 times under warranty. No one is blasting Honda over their shit.
I don’t even believe that they titled this video like they did. Anyone that knows anything about cars knows the Camry is the leader in both quality and reliability. And did Nissan just post a 70% profits cause their cars are crap and people are finally starting to see it.
Not a great review Where was the trip MPG ??? ( weak review ) , I rented one a trip to LA from PHX @ 70--80 MPG of 46 MPG to LA / then 75-85 MPG of 43 to PHX Good ride vey little wind Noise , Apple / Android car play , nice sound system . nice safety features , its a Great second car for to and from work !! Thank you
Nobody buys an Altima or Camry for fun. You should judge the car for what it’s purpose is. Example, you dont like the Camry because it can’t go off road. I do like the Camry for its styling though. PLUS for the price saving over the Camry buy the extended warranty and be good for 7yrs/100k ha
