Reasons why I hate watching fitment industries because they keep letting this dude ruin videos like how amazing a 240sx is and it doesn’t even have to be a drift car you can say all the nice things you force yourself to say so the whole video isn’t about you diminishing the legend of an amazing generation of a car not every thing is about being perfect it’s enjoying the little things in life and I enjoy the show when this dumb troll isn’t on it
At this time, getting a 350z as a drift car is much cheaper and will give you a lot less problems. For $8500, you could get a pretty decent condition 04-06 model, weld the diff, spend the rest of the money on cooling mods and you got yourself the perfect seat time car. There's a reason why everybody and their mom jump into this bandwagon
Yeah didn't the S13/S14 etc get popular for drifting partly because they were cheap and disposable? Then the states would have jumped on the hypetrain?
@@christopherjohnston6343 yeah. Few years from now, i really think that the drift tax on the s chassis will also apply on Zs since they're all getting thrashed now
@@lolcow_president Your not wrong, swap the rear gears and beat the hell out of it. Won't ever be fast and the American v6 power options don't exist but it would drift.
Just seeing a 240sx, regardless of its condition, makes me turn my head every time these days. It’s insane how noticeably scarce these beauties have become in past decade. Don’t get me started on the S14 and coupe S13 models, those literally break my neck lol.
Lol well Ive got an imported clean stock looking 180sx with 90k miles, one color slick top, factory SR20det and manual, fully maintained and upgraded (fmic, injectors, maf, enthalpy ecu, GT2871R, BC coils, wheels/tires and lots more). Its for sale for $24k.
I spent $500 on my S13 hatch and got an SR20det for $2500 about 10 years ago. My car was a POS wannabe drift car then and it’s still that way now. They can be wonderful cars if you have proper expectations for it.
nah, bought my 240 because its one of the best platform vehicles ever built. a cool, unique jdm hatch with a massive engine bay and rwd that will make people go "the fuck is that?" aftermarket and potential is limitless. to get into any jdm classic with a personality will cost you a pretty penny now a days.
i spent 13k on a one owner 92 240sx bone stock and tbh it’s been the most reliable car i’ve owned, aside from the occasional replacement of worn out parts, it’s been great. huge ups on 240’s they’re awesome :)
You guys may want to take a look at some of the safety aspects of that car. At 1:24 you can clearly see one of the door bash bar cross bars is not welded all the way around. And that is in a visible area. Also, the harness bar is too low, if you get in an accident you could possibly suffer from spinal compression.
Sad to think how this will be the last video with alex, things wont be the same but i think i speak for everyone when i say that i respect his decision
i bought mine 2 years ago and the reason was because the 240/200/180sx chassis looks a lot better than the most of nowadays cars, people see an S chassis and they got impressed by the way that he looks, is very sporty, has a lot moods you can do almost anything you want with this kind of car and its still better looking than other nissan cars, also its part of the 90s togue japanese scene, and a dream car for almost every 80-90s kid.
I will never get rid of my s13. Whenever I think about selling it, I go for a drive and realize why I've always kept it. The driving experience is just something else
It is when your aunt buys it in new in ‘91 and doesn’t use it anymore so she gives it to you for helping her out for the past 23 years! Got me a 1 owner, 155,000 miles, bone stock, S13!
Starting out in a S13, 180SX or 240SX is the best car to start drifting in. Though I disagree with the KA24 being a good engine to run in your drift car. It's lack of power doesn't suit the drifting you see stateside. As you see more drifters stateside rely on power over technique. As you don't really see tight small drift courses that require finesse. I learned to drift in Saitama Japan on mountain roads. They are all complete death traps. So abuse of power would get you dead super fast. 300hp is roughly the most horsepower one should have when beginning drifting. It'll make taking on tight twisting courses a breeze and you'll have power for more wide open courses. What's really important is to master the basic techniques to drifting. From e-brake, shift locking and power over drifts to more advanced skills like feint and a high speed braking drift. Either way the S chassis is the best drift car worldwide. But the drift tax on cars is beyond ridiculous at times.
Your from aus yeah, so youd understand drifting an r31 with a useless handbrake. Would make anyone a better driver, however when you need to save yourself with it. You kinda cant lol
I don't particularly think they look nearly as cool, but the 1st gen BRZ/FRS can be found for the price of a semi-decent S13/S14 now, if you don't want to go the 350Z route. I've been seeing them at more events and just like a stock KA powered S13/S14 they can slide and fit the seat time needs.
3 years ago I got my first 350z for $3600... Basically i had an 04 lifted full bolt on "bulletproofed" 6.0 powerstroke on 24x14 fuel forged wheels and 37" fuel gripper Mt tires.. paid $10k for it, got offered a (believe it or not) "pretty" clean 04 java black pearl Subaru STI with tons of rare subie gang parts, making almost 400whp with proof of build and power plus he added cash on top of it for my 6.0 powerstroke. Long story I know, to keep it short I sold the STI for a good price, and was able to buy a 2005 350z 6spd manual with full bolt ons coilovers and some decent fitment 20" xxr wheels for $3600.. THIRTY SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS! The only rust was on the W brace which was replaced with an aftermarket brace anyway. Car was clean it even passed NH state inspection and had clean title. Posted for 5500, immediately got paid asking price.. and I look back at that today like seriously wtf. That was a $12k 350z today, a $20k STI today, and a $25k powerstroke today. It's insane I have an 03 Z now and I had to pay 6300 and it's not even 70% as nice as my first. Prices are out of control
I have a 240sx coupe. I didn't purchase for drift or motorsports, but simply that I have always loved this car. Soooo basically to restore and have a fun car to drive. It does have an SR20, but I wanted a turbo motor without the high horsepower and problems that can come with them. I wanted a car I could drive to shows and meets that was just all around fun to drive. Not knocking on drifters, bc I have respect for them; this is just why I bought my 240. Oh and I paid 2,000 for it..just needed a new master clutch cylinder 🙂
Got my S13 Hatch in the beginning of 2020 for $1600. Had a blown KA but everything else was pretty good. Had some mods on it too like an ISR exhaust, CX racing coilovers, Grip Royal steering wheel and an e-brake button mod (I think that’s what it’s called). He also threw in a 🐽 front end w/ lip which I have on rn, welded diff and a couple other stuff. Though paint was bad and had some rust I managed to fix it up and give it a complete make over. Atm I’m building a KA-T and putting on some 57DR’s on this bad boy, but before I put everything in I’m going to paint my engine bay and do some more rust repairs. Things are looking good😎
I spent $3500 in 2020 on my bone stock s14 with 155k miles. Currently almost at 190k. Its been the most reliable car I’ve owned. I can drive it hard one night and take it straight to work the next morning. Ive been offered good money for it and yeah a 350z and frs would technically be a better car but theyre just not as cool or as rare. I think 350’s are ugly compared to s chassis. I also dont trust boxer engines lol
Just recently got my dream 240sx It's a 93 paid a bit for It but I have a fully loaded SR20DET and I'm happy with it. Its been great daily driving and just messing around surprisingly haven't drifted it and probably wont for a while but I love it! and I'm glad I got it now because prices are just goin up and up.
I got mine for $1600 on 2020 put some money on it but by far from all the other roughly 16 cars I have owned this one is my favorite. I start the build to be a fun car for the weekends then I daily for about a year and now I’m drifting it because temptation was too strong. I have owned three 240s I can’t get away from them.
I used to have a clean S13 coupe with a VLSD, coilovers, and Silvia conversion (all of which I added). Sold it in 2012 when I went to Japan for an internship. My older brother still has his S13 hatch from high school (first car 2006). From stock to SR swap, 2 way lsd, and 180sx Type X kit. 240's are uncommon because of all the "drifters" being poor and wanting instant gratification buying and putting on shit parts. When I would buy parts from others, I would hear about how many s-chassis they have and part one out or take a clean one and gut it or whatever. When I sold my 240, I actually sold it for more than what I bought it for including the parts combined, and yes, me and my brother both drift. There's no greater satisfaction than having a nice looking S13, driving to the track, drifting, and then driving it home. I got an FR-S after I returned from Japan. You can't beat a new car in terms of comfort, reliability, and parts availability. 240sx's are going the way of old muscle cars soon. Gonna need to have money and patience to source quality parts, otherwise they're gonna go extinct. I rather drift on a VLSD than welded diff. Welded diff = poverty level. Just my opinion. Still much love for the S-chassis no matter how people modify them. These cars are rare now. Thanks for posting the video.
As someone who’s own over 5 different 240sx (currently still have 1 now) Please don’t. Save yourself the headache and the financial blowback and look at an e36 or a foxbody. Sure they’re fun, but they are extremely overhyped. They’re great, but you can find something similar for FAR LESS. If you’re not 100% invested in owning one because (insert mushy childhood dream here) than this chassis isn’t for you.
Where do you find cheap fox bodies lol? I'd be looking at at least 15000 for the shittiest examples of 5.0s around here. Even sn95 stangs with the 4.6 are getting upwards of 10k. I picked up an e46 coupe for 5700 with 120k miles but all the e36's around here are also upwards if not over 10k
@@abccanada6248 5-7 odd years ago they could be had for sub 1k (really wanted one back in high school but the 240 won) Given the hard times we’re in. I’d still place my bets on anything else literally that isn’t an s-chassis. Everyone has almost obliterated any remaining cars left. Inflation didn’t skyrocket the value of the cars, the drift community did and you can thank them for that. They were cheap disposable fun little cars 15-20 years, today that isn’t feasible anymore. Ain’t fun when you’re thrashing a 8,500 beer can into a wall.
I bought mine when prices were going up but nowhere near where it is now 5800 for an 89 coup blacktop sr20 + gearbox, 5 lug, coilovers, full interior (even trunk area), no rust, straight frame. If I didn't had one by now I would probably never own one, even tho it is one of my dream cars, I would not be paying 15 to 20k for an s13 unless it would have some serious mods that are worth something. Sad to see how the whole market has become not just s chassis
@@FitmentIndustries I used to have a 98 Eclipse GSX. Unfortunately after kids I had to sell it for a boring crossover haha. In my opinion, the 90s was the pinnacle for Japanese sports cars, NSX, 300ZX, Rx7, Supra, mr2, Eclipse, 3000GT, and while not super fast this 240SX.
no matter what ill love my s13 but they aren't worth the money unless u really want the car i paid 3k for my hatch 4 years ago on stance coils and a few little mods but fairly stock and just rebuilt the ka and its amazing
Man I remember buying my 93 s13 10 yrs ago swapped and sold it for 3500 that motor was beast and it was from the infamous phase2motortrend lol miss that car
I have a nice, manual E46 330ci for half the price of a clapped 240. My only gripe is the lack of cheap LSD options for it. I'll be all in with suspension/wheels/tires and torbo'd around 500whp for under $10k.
A dude who I used to do roofing with sold his clapped out 240 that was rusty af for way too much. Florida coastal air eats everything and especially if you do not use a touchless wash place. Currently watching my passenger rear door be eaten alive by rust -.-
Doesn’t matter what it costs, if it’s what you want and makes you laugh and or smile. Don’t buy what makes your buddies happy, or build it to someone’s else’s spec. All that matters is you use it for the purpose you bought it or you’ll live in regret.
It's a cool car you that you can do a lot with. I have a 89 hatch with an SR20. However, I got mine many years ago when they were about $2k for a decent example. If I had to go back and do it over, I would've bought an E46 M3. I have one now and its way more car than a 240 could ever hope to be. Hilariously enough, it's more reliable than my 240...
I still got my 93 240sx SE stock , my dad bought it brand new 0 miles, i still have it and stock, no body mod, same engine clean engine bay KA24DE, A/C works, power window works, and i wont sell it
I love my 240 so much. I just got my sr swap running after a year and a half. Never driven it while it ran right in all 3 years of ownership. I can’t wait to get this car running right. Also she’s all one color 💜
You just cant beat a 180, 200 or 240sx . They are of somewhat nostalgia that will just never get old, in all the different conditions too which is the one great thing about them ! Like Alex said at the start of the video, trying something different.. for me thats always the best thing, expanding your knowledge and know how about different cars !
I wouldn’t buy a 240 for anymore than $2500 in that condition. They’re just overrated and not worth messing with. Better off with a 350/370, a multitude of BMWs or an SN95. If you’re looking at dropping 15-20k on an old rwd sports car, especially if that car is a 4cyl, I think we all know S2000 is much better. You’ll have a nicer more versatile car
More versatile? Who the f*** drifts/drags/rallies a s2k? The schassis can be found in multiple popular motorsports, you obviously don't know what versatile means 💀
Speaking of clapped out 240s, I have an S14 that I want to replace all the weather stripping on. The only problem is just about every factory piece has been discontinued. Is there anyway or anywhere that does custom work with that? Like can I take it to an auto glass or repair shop that could make something work or use universal stripping if that's even a thing? I've been doing some research and can't really find any answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My 240 is in pretty damn good shape and I'm committed to saving this one and turning it into something that isn't going to be thrown into a wall lol
@@FitmentIndustries So I'm from wayyyy up north in Wisconsin. I live in a town of 313 people. I know you guys are based out of WI, do you have any suggestions? I've called a ton of places already lol. I'll travel just about anywhere at this point haha
My nephew just imported a Silvia from japan... the body and interior are pristine. He however disregarded my whole opinion on the car (I worked as a mechanic for 10 years). He spent about 19k to get it to him and has already spent about 1.2k to fix things but that's just the beginning. Coilovers are dead and the breaks and tires are dead... it has 100k on it and needs new fluids then probably a reseal and tune up. By the time he is done ide be willing to bet he has another 6k to fix the car sometimes lifes lessons are learned the hard way (at least he loves the car) The question ide ask yourself if you are looking to buy a 240 or import one is do you have a f%&k ton of money to yeet at a car because it WILL require work.
I have a 98 240sx with a fully built ka24de-T putting down 462 whp and 412 wtq, my interior is STOCK and not modified at all and my bumper is attached with bolts .... i have 82k miles on the odometer.
@@FitmentIndustries what else is done to it ?? What do you mean what else is done to it other than a turbo built motor ?? Do i have it up on the gallery ?? I have no idea what you are talking about 🤷🏽♂️
I recently found a 240sx that was completely stock that the owner’s daughter drove without coolant, and ruined the motor. The guy didn’t know what he had, and didn’t want to work on it, so I bought it for $300. It’s just chilling out in my garage waiting for me to decide on what motor to stuff in it.
The 370z is a very good platform it's alot more appealing to me that the 350z I think those are kinda ugly, that being said the 240 still looks better that both in my opinion
Im 19 and try to buy RS13 200sx, with so limited budget it's almost impossible honestly, i would never pay more than 3000$ for it, but nowday prices the 6000 are kinda acceptable...
So in general terms, I overpaid for my current 240sx. However, in the current S-chassis market, it was too good to pass up. 15k for a 1990 S13 coupe from the original owner, not completely original but in restored condition. XE model with, manual transmission, no sunroof, HUD, and power windows, everything functioning as it should. 91k original miles.
Here is my opinion as someone who owns a 93 hatch, are they worth the price. Absolutely not, but are they awesome? Yes! All the bad things about them is what adds to their character.
Got my first one years ago as my first car without knowing its story just because it was cheap and i needed a daily driver, i wanted a Audi A4 so i had to be realistic lol paid $1200, 5 spd slick top all stock hatch. just this march i got my second for 5k . Theyre great lil cars for cheap fun. in fact im building a grip car. they were great time attack cars before they started sliding back then, even now some.
love how the 240sx is so shitty, whilst we in europe get the ca18det and higher quality interior which actually makes it a really nice car (cracked dash is a 240sx thing, rarely on 200sx)
