On this episode of Cars with Jay I take a look at the now cheap BMW M6. To find out if it still is a good buy in todays market as it offers great value for money.
I have a 2017 year with a tune and intakes and the car can run away with you because the power is relentless. I think they'll age well and its by far one of BMW better M cars for the history books.
Most of this video is pretty valid until he got to the ‘verdict’. Most of his comments were about it being too powerful, “teetering on the throttle,” and the back end breaking loose. Maybe he forgot that the 750hp car he was driving was tuned and modified. That’s nearly 200 more HP than a stock M6!! It’s pretty safe to say this tuned version drove much different than the stock one. BMW and other manufacturers realized that they had pretty much reached the limits of HP for a RWD car, hence newer more powerful cars come with X drive/AWD
Bro said soft close doors “ just more stuff to go wrong” like bruh it’s a fifty dollar motor if it goes wrong and is held in by two screws 😂😂 like ooohhhh noooo 😂😂
I have this exact same car in a US spec version. Same interior white with carbon. Love my car it's a head turner and super quick. Stage 2 tune with intakes down pipes deleted mufflers add race resonators.
I have had 2 M6 GCs and can relate to most of what you say, if it had x drive it'd be perfect, the M8 has moved the game on big time. 24mpg sounds about right , get an unmolested example with a warranty and it should be fine
X drive would be perfect agreed! Just makes the car so useable day to day. Apart from luxury and features I'd take a M340i touring for the same price (as Jai's example). Would love to drive the M8 Comp!
Feeling old already, but just bought a 2014 F13 640i Coupe recently, had a moderately modified 2015 328i F30 and several old timer Bimmers of the '90s I'm 47 now but driving any BMW would give you smile and make you feel special
Yep, and he is telling more shit in the video, like about the oilpump... And to compare a 650 n63 engine with the s63 (different block, different pistons, different heads, different manifold, different Valves, different Cams, different Turbos, different Fuelinjectors, different Fuelpumps) is just funny, so because its an V8 its the same engine, i didnt noticed that even mercedes and other manufacturers use the bmw s63 engine...mindblowing
You’re last speech really applies to me. 25 year old and previously driven a new shape m135i 4wd for a couple months and now just use my 1.6 golf company car. Been on the lookout for a 25k ish weekend car. Was gearing towards a m4 but seen one of these m6’s available mapped to 625 bhp. Was tempting me but this video has really hit home. It might just be abit too much power especially as I’ve not owned a rwd car. Would you suggest a m4 or still take a step lower.
Great advice especially the rear wheel drive stuff, for years the blanket BMW "exciting" guff did my head in, it's only that in the hands of an expert RWD driver on a track. In the real world..,..
I bought two of these from new, a pre and then an LCI with comp pack, B & O sound system and most optional extras ticked including soft close doors which is a touch that just lifts and makes the car along with other options. The comfort seats are fantastic but get the ventilated seat option for cooling in the summer, I found them fantastic. It is a very fast but stable drivers car, it inspires confidence and for a big car really turns in well and hugs the road. Yes they are hard work in the wet when trying to accelerate hard but you leave your traction aids on and just drive accordingly. I still think they look great today and if I had the choice I’d have one of these over the latest M3, M4,M5, M8 without thinking about it, this was one of the last if not the last decent car BMW produced, just please please please don’t buy one and put carbon fibre all over it.😊
Its as close to perfect in total balance imho as it gets. 2016 f13 w 16k just purchased a few weeks ago. every option except comp. crazy cheap w clean fax. score!
@Cars with Jay bought a 2015 BMW f13 M6 fully loaded with competition package 16k miles on her 1 owner. Have had it for 5 month and put 3k miles on her she's running great. Thinking about a jb4 tune
Humm very interesting review, brings up points I haven't seen in some others. For example I was under the impression both the 650i and the M6 had fairly similar and comfortable seats. His comments regarding young drivers seem very applicable to myself. I'm wondering what other people thing, is it possible he's primarily feeling the effects of modification, 200+hp surely isn't what the stock traction control had in mind. More importantly would a 650i with xdrive be a more reasonable car for a young driver?
for the younger driver (or less experienced in RWD) I would definetely recommend 650i xdrive, cos this thing is just brutal (when TC off). Better be safe
Bro, A real M guy will never drive a 640d - also with minus 1 degrees you have the wrong tire for any car- i don‘t really understands your points - this is the sportiest approach in a salon car- def not a true sports car- this car is for the experienced driver that knows what to do behind the wheel- please kids stay away. Cheers
Huge improvement in probably interior tech? I can’t imagine the drive quality is as good as a DCT and hydraulic steering lol The Interior of the 8 might look more modern but materials are still the same standard merino leather, etc Love the 6 and 8 but the 6 wins on the exterior and interior design, there is no interior like the waterfall 6, 8 looks bland
9:43 cars average reads 20.6mpg man says 16mpg 😅😂 i know from experience that this car does about 10-11L/100km in city and about 7-8 on the highway. Very efficient car and reliable cars althoughhhh id say they burn too much oil overall these engines and they heat soak alot. If you want the luxury and prestige then ya go for m5/6/8 otherwise stick with the inline 6 stuff 😉 bmw knows that best. Edit: 10:27 no n63tu and s63tu are two different engines. Like saying the n55 and s55 are same engine... come onnn mannnn get rhe facts straighhttt mannn. Well produced video but misinformed.
See, now, I would buy this and track it... It's a second car these days, realistically. No-one (with sense) would daily this these days/at the age of these... Surely.
You say the oil pump is the only thing to look out for on the engine that is laughable. These engines have soo many problems I won’t buy one even though I work on cars and think this is one of the most beautiful cars ever built
What years have the oil pump problems? And i heard its bcuz the factory ow30 oil is to thin and 2 avoid those oil pump problems people switch to either 5w40 or redline 5w50.....
something i want to say my brother both have m8 comps convertabile and i have a m6 comp my other cuzin has a m850i i like the 850i more features and everything but the m6 got more power so il stick with the m6
M6 is Dated and Old Now. I would go for the M8 or 8 series, those are nice. and Older BMW are probably super expensive to maintain repair, so cost wise might even be smarter to go for Newer Bimmer model with Warranty over used, dated, potentially many break down old M6. I would save my money for the M8
Plenty of other youtubers to watch. Want reckless watch DMO or Certi drivers. Want powersliding on an insured track with unlimited tires and no repercussions then watch Chris Harris. Police watch these videos im not putting my license at risk.
@@CarswithJay You could talk more about the car's handling and performance without necessarily breaking the speed limit. There are nice driving roads in the UK and you could have used any one of them. But you're right there are plenty of other RU-vidrs to watch.
Ummm,, I own a 2014 gran coupe competition package and they are NOT hard to drive in the rain unless you are a complete meat head on the gas all the time at every light or the type of yahoo who does burnouts all the time and has never realistically raced a car to its limits. Grandma is not going to lose traction while driving this car because it is tame but has good, safe and fun pull anywhere up to mid throttle and respect its power. If you are an meat head who thinks they can pretty much go 75% to 100% full throttle in any condition and on any road then you will not be happy with this car. But then again, you are in meat head driver probably.
If you're wanting an M6..... Don't listen to this utter rubbish. I Drive an M6, daily, up and down the country .... and disagree with just about everything said here. It's obvious that he's cliimbed into one just to make a video, knowing nothing about the car itself.
I have a '14 M6 too. I KNOW you agree with the traction concerns! I wish I knew how fast my car was. Even with new 305 Michelins I can't use it all...but the traction control in this car works surprisingly well if you have it on. From 80-150 this car eats nearly anything on the road, while massaging your back and cooling your seat.
I agree with you I have a 2014 M6 and drive it a lot. Before he does a review he should keep the car for at least a month he really does not know the car.
