Is the movement tray kit the same as it always was with 20mm squares on one side and 25mm on the other or have they updated it to be 25mm on one side and 30mm on the other? Sounds like the former from one of the comments but would be good to hear from someone who has one early - cheers!

You want ranks, 18 is a 6 front by 3 deep (combat results). They have also okayed the use of rank filling dioramas to add in your tray. You can build a shrine on a 60 x 60 base and take 4 spaces of your formation up so 16 models can be a block of 20. They have a wheelbarrow spilling shields off of it taking 2 spaces for men at arms formation. This is going to be so much fun.

I think the big box is good value. What scares me is all the extra characters, Grail Knights etc. When I did some quick arithmetic I was knocking on £570!!! That was based on 9 Grail Knights, New std Bearer, Hand Maiden, another unit of Pegasus Knights, all the books, cards and dice, Grail reliquary. I hadn't even taken into account the new foot Knights, new Enchantress or the trebuchet or undoubtedly need more kits of peasant cannon fodder. That killed my excitement and I'm not getting into this game which I'm very sad about. I loved the Bretonnian story and miniatures. But cannot justify this kind of money sink!!!

Just dont buy the expensive GW models. There are plenty of really great alternative modells. And you really only ever need the Knights of the Realm and can built ALL Knight types from it. If you can't or don't want to kitbash, there are bits you can buy to replace shields, heads, weapons etc. to build Grail Knights or Questing Knights out of the KOTR. If you don't buy everything from GW you'll have a competetive 2000Pt army with some options for 200€. There is a reason no one played Bretonnia back then, if you only depend on GW XD I also love that GW thought Bretonnia and Khemri were the most sought after armies because the secondary market prices of them were so ridiculous, when in reality the issue was, since hardly anyone PLAYED Bretonnia and Khemri, no one bought models and hardly and modells were in circulation, hence the moon prices. You could always, even before TOW pick up Imperial or Ork armies for cheap, if you were a bit patient, since they were lying arround and collecting dust in thousands of basements.

Thise boxes are ridiculously well priced for GW standards, especially now that GW apparently overdid their second printrun. You can pick up the box new starting from 160€ ish and about 140-150€ for unbuilt ones on the secondary market. Sell the core book, the ruler, the dice and the templates for 50€ and you get half an army for 100 ish €. Do it twice and you have a playable, and even rather competetive 2000 point army with some options. Get 1-2 Maidens and a box of KOTR on foot and you can easily kitbash Questing Knights and Grail Knights and have a REALLY good army with even more options. The cherry on top might be a Trebuchet, but the one from GW is too expensive for what it is, but you get really good printed alternative models for about 20€. I bought one starter box, one Box of KOTR on horse, 2 unbuilt Pegasus knights, 4 Knights of the realm and 12 peasants for 25€, a 3D printed maiden on horse and one on foot and a printed Trebucht for 32€ and and have a rather decent army for pretty much exactly 200€. If you build unit fillers you can pump up your infantry rather easily with Bretonnians. With the Burning Braziers you can easily replace two sets of 1x4 Archers, so 8 in total and then I took two 50x75 Bases and replaced 12 Men-at-arms (one was temporary field grave for a fallen knight the other was a small supply cache (Meat, Wine, barrels, crates, weapons, ammo and a banner). So I was able to build 32 Archers and 48 men-at-arms (in two units of 24) from the core box alone. With a few bits, a little bit of green stuff and somewhat decent painting skills, you can kitbash almost every type of character on horse from the KOTR on horse kit as well. With basic crafting skills, a small bit collection and a lot of creativity, Bretonnians, in my experience, are one of the cheapest and most satisfying armies to build in TOW.

@@martinjrgensen8234Well they can still clean them/refurbish up. I'm pretty sure Heller (old french model kit company, declared bankruptcy, got revived) cleaned up some of their older moulds. The detail is still shit, and some of the parts are a little too chunky to be historically accurate, but the flash (mould lines) and overall cleanliness is improved.
@bobdole8830
@bobdole8830 15 дней назад
@@dingus3725 New moulds cost 10k and more a pop, if they had to redo them, they would just make new models. The mould line issue also appears in the new Archers and Men at arms A LOT. Im pretty sure it is mostly a general quality issue with GW. To me it feels like they are testing the water with how much BS they can get away with and how much money they can safe. GW never had any real quality control worth mentioning, not even the overpriced Forge World stuff, but they would replace crappy products on a whim, but that is also changing now. I had several quality issues with GW over the last 5 years and most of the time it was a struggle. If you bought it at a store they would virtually never do anything and the store owners, at least the ones I know, always told me they have to refund out of their own pocket, since the refund program from GW is rather complicated, especially if you are a small store that doesnt flip a lot of product. But even if I bought stuff from them directly it was a struggle to get them to replace things.

they aren't that expensive p/m per $. theyrun cheaper than an equivalent AOS unit which have 10or 20 man units. doubt the basic regular infantry boxes will cost (unless doubled up like AOS does) around regular equivalent currency (for me AUD) for say $100or $50 etc. per model it'drun at less than $1 per infantry. AoS is about $2-$4 per model. sure you may need more, but in the starter faction it runs even cheaper still. and if can get itever from 3rd parties, then 20-50% off. so potentially cheapest specialist game GW ever made.

@user-ds8rj2vc4v
@user-ds8rj2vc4v 8 месяцев назад
I think the price would have been fine if they were all new models. But they're not. At this price it matches the recent Leviathan boxset, with approximately the same amount of models and also the rulebook. The problem is that 100% of the Leviathan boxset was brand new, while this has literally 1 new model. A company the size of GW doesn't really have any excuse for it either. A few new sprues wouldn't have been that expensive realistically.
@Trinioutsider34
@Trinioutsider34 7 месяцев назад
@@user-ds8rj2vc4v That is exactly what I was expecting new models. I was excited for the return of The Old World. Hopefully, GW does do a range refresh on these miniatures then again I've been waiting for them to update the Grey Knights miniatures, so I won't be holding my breath.

@user-ds8rj2vc4v 7 месяцев назад
@@Trinioutsider34 As a collector of Grey Knights also, I share your pain (I also collect Eldar..). And I would understand them bringing back some old models. But the new boxsets should've been entirely new. I think a fair relaunch would've been; New core box, with all models in it completely new (new Pegasus knights, new knights of the realm, new peasant bowmen, new men at arms and new Royal Pegasus Duke). Then the other box sets; grail knights, trebuchet etc, all being old kits, I would understand. They can then refresh them in a future edition. But yeah, 1 new model in the box is kinda lame. And if I buy this boxset, and then in 2 years they replace all of those models, I'm going to feel like a fool.
@bobdole8830
@bobdole8830 15 дней назад
Stick to AOS or Farcry. This was never a product for the type of players such as you. If they hadn't reintorudced the old models I'm VERY certain the system would have flopped or stayed on the Level of 30K or the new small mans Epic. This is product heavily ponders to the crowd that played WHFB back then and seemed to have brought a lot of people back that parted ways with GW a while back. There are plenty of new systems with new models in the new style of GW to find something you like, but I am glad they brought back the old models since, to me, and apparently many others for that matter, the old, hand designed models are much more aesthatically pleasing than that convoluted, overdesigned, monopose 3D rendered stuff GW is producing now. If you really do like the system, and dont play tournaments, you can easily substitute a lot of stuff with AOS or third party models, that is not really a massive obstacle.

Is there a difference between an Influencer and an “Influencer”? If so, what is the difference? Regarding Old World specifically, is it that you lack interest in the game/ models/ setting, or you wish that less content revolved around GW’s model release cycle? Regarding free stuff, do you dislike the idea of gifts in general, to the point where you would reject a free copy of the Old World starter boxes out of hand? people saying it is expensive failto realize that (least by old standards for WHFB) these boxes are literal armies in a box. but those who say these are expensive gladly pay CP or equivalent for AOS entry level, and get like 12 or so models for 1/2-2/3 the cost of these. yep. more money, for less plastic fine. more money (at first glance) up front = too expensive. in AUD (Australia) the box is broken down as around a free rulebook, a $120 character (pegasus) a large unit of knights ($35 each or $70 est for all) five units broken down into pilgrim/archers around $250. or $50 per box (around similar at time they were squatted). this leaves the rest of the templates, the mini non army book, the dice, and such to cost around the remainder, so around 30-50$. compare to AOS and 40k: prices are (akin) to older entry points to WHFB. possibly about up to 25% (to cover inflation etc) more expensive. but old sculpts a turn off for some, and such, it is actually cheaper by model per dollar, than other games GW produces. and this is to overcome the hesitation some may have moving on this game. I care not for the game though. just kitbashes. and this game offers me kits I have since run dry from my bits box.

I think they did the "Upgrade" to larger base size is to be able to have redone model sthat are a bit bigger down the road if Old world takes off. Also it allows you to use 25mm circle bases and place them on movement trays with a holder in it to use your converted AoS models in old world rank and file. which is kind of neat. IMO its almost not worth using the square bases for anything that converts to AoS so you can still use for either game. I'm kind of excited about this and might get back to work on my vampire counts army (yes I know they wont have official rules) that was converted from elves. as well as I will start a high elf army when they release, as well as eventually get some dark elves again, which was my first army in Fantasy battles.
