Great review!!! I just ordered my P1S, and I went ahead and bought the Panda Touch. Given that it does give a better display over the stock screen, with a better interface, and given that there are no real mods to make, I figured why not?
I gotta be honest, I’ve had my P1S for about a year now and I hardly ever use the screen on the unit. I either use Bambu Handy and/or Bambu Studio almost exclusively. My sole reason to use the P1S is to switch off the LED. That’s it. So this controller just really doesn’t make sense to me, almost zero benefit. Just seems like an extra cog in the wheel that can go wrong. It over complicates things wildly
I agree, I mainly use it for maintainence, swapping external filaments, and turning the chamber light on / off. You can do it all in the app, though sometimes I just use the screen instead of pulling out my phone. Like I said in the video, I don’t think the Panda Touch provides enough value for the user to get one. Though, if you want one and have the money to throw around, nothing is stopping you.
I was looking into this as well but could not do it I went with the Xtouch 3.5 Inch screen and custom 3d print bracket it gives me a nice touch screen for when I need to load/unload filaments or turn off my chamber light and the best part it was a total of $12 for the screen I had an sd card to run Xtouch and I just printed my own case. I just followed Teaching Tech's video on the Xtouch and had it set up in 15 min.
@@PrintPractical The interface is ok about just as good the only thing it dose not have is AMS support but for m it dose not matter as I don't have an AMS.
@kensik interesting, I’ll have to take a look. I wouldn’t mind donating some time to help implement more functionality in the software. My day job is being a software engineer on embedded products
I have noticed that the nozzle and heatbed temperature can no longer be controlled via the PandaTouch. does anyone else have this problem and can tell me how to fix it? I have FW 01.06.01.00 running on the P1S. thanks and regards Kris
Great commentary! Great Video! I've had my Panda for a few months now, I used it for a week and just did not like it. Put it back in the box... Got warm fuzzies when an update for it came out, updated, still didn't like it. Returned it again to the box. I have 2 P1S's and switching between the two machines I felt was a bit cumbersome. I may sell it... Just easier to control my machines from my PC or phone.
I don’t think so. I believe I was experiencing some bug on the Panda Touch. Maybe it was because I have a mesh network. I’m very familiar with the networking products in my house, no config issues there. I do see a few notes in the release notes around WiFi stability and mesh networks. Maybe I did my LAN only testing on an older firmware. bttwiki.com/PandaTouch.html#v104
@@PrintPractical The ESP32 chip in the Panda Touch can only do 2.4GHz 11n and has no 5GHz radio. I don't think the printers do 5g either come to think of it. I just keep an old phone nearby with the Handy app. The only appealing thing about this seems to be print farm functionality and being able to plug a USB in without having to cold swap an sd card.
