I was taught in middle school that the sun and moon were responsible for all weather on earth, as it is on all planets in our solar system
@FATillery
@FATillery Год назад
That is true. The Sun controls the temperatures throughout the solar system. Our moon, which orbits our Earth at a 5-degree tilt, keeps Earth tilted at 23.5 degrees which is how we have seasons as we orbit the Sun. Without our moon, the Earths' tilt would vary from zero to 90 degrees which would wreak havoc on our planet. The seasons we are used to would not exist and, quite probably, neither would we.
@ThexBorg

The moon is just an adjacent gravity well that affects tides like our oceans and the lava beneath the crust of earth.
@FATillery
@FATillery Год назад
@@ThexBorg The moon does more than that, my friend. It stabilizes our orbital tilt at 23.5 degrees which allows us to have seasons. Without the moon, the Earths' orbital tilt would vary from 0 to 90 degrees, and we would not have regular seasons. In fact, our farming efforts would not last long enough to sustain the plants we grow or the animal life we eat as well.

The sun is absolutely a major influence on earths climate. Its the star of the show. The earths magnetic field started rapidly weakening once the magnetic poles began rapidly shifting. Circa 1900. The climate wasn't far behind. This has allowed increasingly higher amounts of solar energy and radiations into our atmosphere and to propagate the earth. When our magnetic field is stable, the effects from the sun will also stabilize. I'm afraid it has to get worse before it will get better. The May 2024 solar storms had measurable effects on the earth and were responsible for the streak of wild weather that lasted weeks. The biological effects are also a serious concern. This would be happening if humans never walked the earth.

They are conveniently leaving out the most important detail in determining the impact of the Sun on Earth's atmosphere, that being the change in Earth's proximity to the Sun. Solar activity is less impactful on Earth's atmosphere when the Earth is further from the Sun, this is true of all planets in all solar systems across the entire universe. The entire climate change conversation today is coming from scientists that get their grant funding from corporations, so they're incentivised to do studies that ignore the problem to ensure the negative impact on corporations that grant them funding is minimized.

It is odd how resistant to change we are as a species. Our impact on climate change is inconvenient for us in that it demands we change our way of life. It is obvious that there are far too many of us on the planet to continue on the way we are. We have experienced a pandemic (and it is far from the last) that is spread by the exploding population of the world, our densification and the overpopulation of cities and our excessive travel. However, it remains the vast amount of energy we inject into our environment that is necessary to provide the growing consumer demands of the world. It cannot be sustained by the environment.
