75whp stock, top speed 127mph based on gearing, not a horrible bike I just don’t know about it. Took it for a test ride 2 days ago. Could barely tell a difference between this and my wife’s r3. This is the best review of the 8R yet. Fun. More importantly Yammie actually gets the point of what this bike was designed for. Day to day this bike feels quick from 3-5,000 rpm. Push to 7,000 if in a hurry. People who say this bike runs out of poke at high revs have forgotten to change gear. Or are going way too fast. BTW, drop the revs before quick shifting down Yammie. The bike is not designed to rev on the way down either.
@Frank_Torre
@Frank_Torre 5 месяцев назад
It's definitely a sportbike, just with a more comfortable rider triangle. It's has more usable power than like a in-line 4 that has it's power high in the rev range. In many ways these more comfortable sportbikes are saving the middleweight market as more and more manufacturers are discontinuing their in-line 4's in the 600cc range and only a few still remain or are getting a new model refresh.

I did the sit down test comparison. The 8R feels like a baby touring bike. The shop down the street let me ride one and it felt really good. The expectations I had for it was exactly what I thought it could do. It looks aggressive but doesn't need to be ridden aggressive to tap the power and it's got the sport look without the punishing ergos which means more time in the seat and less time in the massage chair. Rode it around for about 15 minutes and had a blast.

It's my 3rd bike, but first 600 and i-4. I ride mostly country back roads at around 30-60mph, not riding hard or high revs everywhere. If you rode a bike with a parallel twin or a triple you'll understand. The inline 4s feels slower than them until higher rpms. The power is peaky. On the street peaky power is well... Not useful and not as fun unless you want to do triple digits everywhere. I've had multiple bikes and I will never go back to an inline 4 unless it's a dedicated track bike. With all this being said. As long as you enjoy it that's all that matters.

This is the future of Supersport started by Aprilia with the RS 660. A more street friendly fully faired Supersport with the track needs being a secondary thought. This is where the buyers are, we don't want a track bike with the street being an after thought. We want it the other way round. We want to look awesome and be fully comfortable. It is more about looks and comfort than performance. 80 to 100 HP is plenty, we are not looking to win races we are looking for a good, safe, fun and comfortable time. Cheers.

I hate to say it, but this is actually the perfect sensible bike. A 650 twin is a very good option but they are just a tad underpowered, where this is making up for that so you are now getting a realistic, yet sensible bike. I agree with you. And it all depends on what you’re wanting. It’s not a true “super sport” but it’s got some power and it’s definitely geared toward having serious torque low. It’s what we used to routinely call just a “sport bike” but everyone seems to want to label a “sport tourer” now🤦‍♂️(It’s NOT a tourer🙄). But it’s really comfy. I have a cbr650r which is also a sport bike - it DOES NOT have the low end torque but it will hit 150 mph at the top end and it’s also comfy. The R7 won’t really do any of that (I don’t dislike the R7 but it doesn’t have the torque of the gsx 8R nor the speed of the cbr650r) On the bright side there is a lot of great bikes to choose from these days.

ICE will be here for some time to come. EVs require substantial subsidies from governments or they sit on dealership lots and people have only modest interest in them. Cut to the chase: torque provides real-world, useable power to riders who want to keep their license. Horsepower, a mathematical manipulation of torque, is king on track days and for Ultra-Squids like Ghost Rider who fall asleep at anything less than triple-digit speeds. Great torque and a broad powerband (RPM peak torque to peak horsepower) are what we need for real-world, street-legal excitement from our engines. More horsepower is never a bad thing, but torque is what gets you rolling and lets you accelerate out of the twisties.

Nothing to do with displacement...an inline-twin just can't be a Supersport. And no alot of people bought ninja 650's and ninja 500's and sv650's but they were either on a budget or commuting to work or old men. SV's though we're a hit from the start because a cheap v-twin compatible with Ducati and the gsxr suspension was swappable and could kick some serious ass on track. But kawasaki had Inline-twins in the lineup 4ever.

What kills this bike for me is the engine. Did they really need to go with a parallel twin? Parallel twins have no personality, they sound like a blender, and you know the only reason for their existence is the fact that they are cheap to manufacture. I can understand the cost cutting for small displacement beginner bikes. But in canada, this is a $14000 msrp motorcycle. I dont want to spend that kind of money just to hear the sound of cost cutting every time i turn it on.

For me on top of the engine is the overall manufactured look. Why make a bike look this aggressive when your riding position is as upright as it can be, it just looks... bad. Give me a bike that looks the part. Imagine a cruiser with supersport seating, or an adv bike with scooter type seating. Are they even a cruiser and adv anymore? Naked bikes are great, sportbikes are great. Dont. Try. To. Fuse. Them.

I honestly don't see the big deal or what is so different or new about this new breed of "sport bikes." And just because riders and the industry are trending in this direction and manufacturers have discontinued or put I4's on the back burner in some cases, does not make these new twins their match. We all know what larger displacement twins and triples are capable of. Some are race worthy and can match supersports and superbikes all things being equal. But so far as the market for the general public? Bikes like these are Sport Tourers. Or descendants of. Remember when Suzuki slapped clip ons and full faring on the SV650 way back when? I do. And it was no more the "sport bike" for it. That's all this trend is. And that's fine. But the Gixxer, R6, R1 and others will be missed by many and for good reason. Those were special motorcycles. The likes of this, the R7 and assortment of naked bikes flooding the market? Not so much. They're great for what they are. But they are exactly what they are and no more...and certainly nothing new.

So true. By definition, a sportbike is a tailored for handling and performance. High speed, high acceleration, high braking power and agility. This new brand of "sportbikes" or "supersports" is LITERALLY naked bikes with plastics on the side and more expensive. Just buy a naked bike, is almost the same thing minus the unnecesary add-ons. I don't get this need of manufactures saying "hey, sportbikes on the road aren't dead yet! We're not letting them die!" while they release naked bikes with fairings and the actual sportbikes are being relegated to track use only. Imo, it's fine if we don't get any more sportbikes for road use, leave them as track only bikes, that's fine. But stop trying to make naked bikes what they're not, and making "sportbikes" what they're not as well.

@@IDontKnow-bb6mt I actually already have a '22 XSR900. I think that GSX8 is a marginally better bike in comfort, handling, smoothness, ease of throttle, low-end power, cooler operating temps in urban traffic, MUCH better steering lock, and screen visibility. The XSR900 has better raw power (but it's hard to access), better footpegs, better brakes, and possibly better track day manners (not yet taken it to a track). I ended up getting a leftover XSR900 for $9300 out the door including tax (so cheaper than the GSX8S), and the insurance was much cheaper than the GSX8S's, but if you can, get a test ride on a GSX8. Probably won’t make the impact the cb750 did, but what made the cb750 so popular was that it was just good at almost everything. You could get other bikes that were comparable in power, comfort, track ability ect; but the cb750 was good at all of those but in one bike. You could race it, tour it, track it, be comfortable, everything. Those all seem to be the kinda vibes yammie is giving from riding the bike
