True. It is UNPAID work. Except for the pennies the husband might toss her way. Though in my case, I receive a generous one. Due to my physical disability. I'm a housewife. But one who has been banned from a good portion of housework by her doctor. So unfortunately my man has to do it. Like cooking, laundry, and vacuuming.

A housewife saves money. I cook from scratch, sew, do gardening etc. a working woman needs convenience due to lack of time, so a working woman usually spends a lot of what she makes in stuff like day care, prep meals or take out, cleaning ladies etc. Most of the time a woman works because she wants to work.

We appreciate your honesty and objectivity regardless of how you want to live. It’s god given freedom to chose. My wife works after kids are raised, but still fills many traditional roles. We cook together most of the time. I do my part and she’s happy with the help. While the kids were growing, she was a traditional wife. I respect and appreciate her in all her capacities she chooses. @Tony Again, people can disagree with me all they want. Everyone's with a right to their opinion. Personally, I find nothing more "selfish" than to bring a child into the world without being with the financial means to support that child. It Isn't so much the mother that suffers the most so much as the poor kid on a diet of fast food and used hand-me-downs because mommy never got an opportunity to give herself a better shot at life as an adult before getting knocked up. People are not taking into consideration the cost of having just one child nevermind more than one. Everybody's treating having kids like it's some sort of fashion trend, yet it's not the same as bringing home a fucking dog. There are so many couples bringing kids into the world who put their drug habits and their drinking above all else as well. And I'm talking about people who never bothered to even stay in high school and never bothered to do anything gainful afterwards. Households have not been supported on a single income in (many, many decades). This is why it's dangerous to treat having children as if it's a trend and strictly for the purpose of image.

@Tony I never said that everything I had going on was better than what other people chose, so much as I was pointing out that it's definitely better (for me). In fact, if you go back and read the comment again, you'll notice that I said being a housewife or being career-oriented is a (choice) that everyone has. I don't have anything against stay-at-home mothers or stay-at-home wives at all. However, I find that stay-at-home wives or "tradwives" have a little less self respect and dignity, because they do nothing but take orders from their boyfriends or husbands and are kept on a very short and tight leash. Many of them are missing out on life and try to act like they're happy when behind closed doors, you know a lot of them are sobbing into their hands. Especially if they got an earful for going out with friends or decided to enjoy some leisurely shopping and dining for a change. At that point, A woman has clearly been robbed of her self-esteem and adulthood, and programmed to think that she's basically still a child and needs to have the man's "permission" for everything. That is just pure bullshit. I'm sorry, but getting screamed and yelled at or hit with the threat of a break-up because I didn't have dinner on the table when my boyfriend came home from his fulfilling day of being successful and accomplished, isn't my idea of a very good life-let alone any sort of life at all. I would be looking to be someone's wife or boyfriend - not to adopt someone else's adult son. (That part of it really grosses me out) because marriage isn't about being a set of "replacement parents" to each other. And women are human beings after all, and deserve to enjoy life while we're here. My sister is a stay-at-home wife and mother. She's got three kids and hasn't worked full time in many years. And she's a terrific mother. But I'm not going to say she's 100% content. And she has openly admitted this to me plenty of times. She actually wanted to join me for a fishing trip. And while I thought this was a great idea, she wasn't quite within her element once she got out on the lake with me. She wasn't able to put her phone down, she wasn't dressed correctly for being in the wilderness. And activities such as fishing (peaceful as it is), are mainly for those who don't have children at home. Her children are her life. My hobbies and my career are mine. Everyone has a different destiny in life. And not every woman has to live the same carbon-copy lifestyle as every other one.

@Tony I never said having children was a "curse." You're putting words in my mouth. I merely pointed out the reality of how expensive it is to have children and that you need to be financially stable in order to comfortably go through with it because its a very big decision. Again, it's not like going to an animal shelter and adopting a pet. It's a huge commitment and has to be very carefully thought through. And I have my own opinion and my own perspectives in life. Nobody gets to change that.

If they want to get up everyday and have a rewarding career to go to and fun hobbies to do in their spare time than all the power to them. If they prefer to stay home and scrub dirty dishes and cook meals then all the power to them just the same. Why is it that so many children are raised by single parents? 13.6 million single parents to provide a general idea. Which families are providing additional help for them? Parents - 46% who lived together before marriage divorced. The impact on children sky high. Parents who have friends who divorce have a 75% increase in the risk of their own marriage ending. Infidelity is another leading cause of divorce at 60%. Do you honestly believe that a family's success rate is higher with 2 working parents, where children are raised by t.v., daycare, and public schools? If you have been married longer than 8 years sweet your family is an exception. Still, this does not mean that your magical number works for 80 percent of the rest of the family's. Property Taxes and fear of losing unpaid home loans. Property taxes require a person to either own a business or work for one. It also takes leverage away from the worker. It is cheaper to have clothes and diapers, to breastfeed, to grow and can own food, to raise children on healthy food, and to monitor children's actions and influences. House prices went up when 2 parents started working as well as the cost of vehicles, clothes, shoes, phones, etc..... Of course, there are other financial issues when it comes to owning a home. Such a dependency on energy, water, gas etc...... How much money does a family actually really need to raise a family if 1 parent works and no annual property tax exists?

@Tony - I see what you are saying but disagree. A "boss woman" does not equal a 100 percent invested wife and parent. A side hustle or job to earn extra money for stuff is something else to me so which are we discussing? I agree 100 percent is required in a relationship. With all components that involve 100 percent in relationship being assumed. You cannot own a successful business or have a successful career without some form of dependency and a certain percentage not engaged in family 1st. When do you go to work to go to work for yourself or the family? Do you have a career that earns above 150k? I call it a career because it makes a huge difference whether or not your business or career is lost to some uncontrollable situation. While i can agree that you and your wife may be the exception to the rule. To say (nothing) is to say it is an absolute truth. For you and your family at the moment it may be true. To me, absolutes require all personalities and relationships to be the same as yours. I am again assuming that you also get along after the kids have moved out. I am assuming your family is not dependent on her job to get by or ahead but is for extra cash in her pocket for one reason or another. I am also assuming you have less than 4 kids and they have not reached their teen years yet. A wife being a nurse for example is a career. If it is the fact that the children are all grown up. Then maybe I can agree. If you and your wife are partners in a business then I can somewhat agree. But if she is a boss woman (career orientated) I strongly disagree.

@Tony - I think a wife should be invested at home. This includes planting and canning food as an alternative to a husband's career in case something were to happen to him. You can eat money. You can always sell food that you grow. Even if you just have 1 acre of land. That to me is the best option. 2nd best option is a wife who learns a career in case something happens to the father. 3rd would be a financial situation that has occurred and the wife has to work along with the husband to pay bills a certain amount of neglect will occur. This would be ideal from my point of view. I do not see making money as more important work. I see growing food and raising healthy children as more important work. To me, a couple horses (maybe a draft mule), a cow, some rabbits( ducks or chickens option) a couple dogs, and a couple sheep is the best just-in-case option. It requires lots of work that would provide children a good work ethic and a certain enjoyment of life. 10 acres would be ideal. Not everyone is the same and not all personality types would agree. I come from the point of view that water, food, and growing seeds are without a doubt more important than an economy that can collapse. If i lose my legs or get hit by a vehicle. I would hope that my wife would pick up the slack vs leave me. I feel if i took care of the wife and children the best way i could both would reciprocate. In fact most family it use to be that way and those skills are extremely helpful in times such as a great depression. I am just old and my ways are not your ways. I think it is much easier to make mistakes when a woman is focused on family and career especially when a husband already has that covered.

Um, just because she is a stay at home wife doesn’t mean she has all the time to do nothing..some people like to clean & cook, not just because they have to. I myself, am on vacation. I am so lazy when I don’t work. I have a Master’s degree and always did full time work and school. Working only without study now feels like leisure. And vacay mode means I’m not getting off the couch. Props to her for ACTUALLY doing housework. I would like to be like her someday, freed from pressures. However, I know it takes a lot of good habits to have a perfectly clean/organized house. I see her as a role model for women. This doesn’t mean I don’t like my career, I’m just getting older and tired. Also, when I marry, I would like to become a housewife. Not all man are willing to provide everything now a days.

And lol, I am a wife at home and I keep my house perfectly clean when my husband is at work away. He is a pilot. When he is home we do activities together, planned or spontaneous. And it doesnt take me much, and I do it while having a degenerative syndrome that affects my entire body, that also comes with pain and sudden intense tiredness. Otherwise, I would want to provide more too, and frankly if I was passionate about my study or job Ill go with my heart and chose accordingly. Some laws like being allowed to beat your wife even with an object have also disappeared. SHE IS A MODERN WOMAN MAKING HER OWN DECISION WHENEVER SHE WANTS WHEN SHE WANTS. As well as not being around any toxic men if you dont want to. Not having a job or cooking doesnt make you "traditional " nor special nor more valuable nor better for your family or your husband. Some women take care of their family just as well and give back so much to the society and some don't have the financial privilege having only one salary per family.
