Is The U.S. Ready to Reopen?

States across the country began reopening parts of their economies as early as April 24th. Guidelines for reopening differ wildly but a key difference lies in which sector can open first and the speed of the process. However, experts warn that a preemptive reopening can do more harm than good by potentially creating a second wave of infections, which would lead to more closures and increased economic hardship.

Just the opposite. Many don't have savings, or those that did have used those savings. How do you expect people to pay bills, buy food, etc. without working? Those with savings can hold out for longer. Many people like me only had 3 months of expenses saved, or even less. I'm self-employed, so I have to work. No government assistance, no unemployment (unless my company goes bankrupt), and I didn't qualify for the $1200. So self-employed, small business owners, and those without any savings have to work. You can't sit back and hope the government sends you a check; you have to go out and make your own money to cover your living expenses.

When this was taking off in the US in march, I saw some estimates that left unchecked , the ENTIRE US population would be infected in about 3 weeks at SARS-CoV-2's infection rate. That's why this is such a terrifying force to be reckoned with, and why it's so important to get it under control. 1.6 Million current cases (May 21). Reopening the Economy (Fully, Nationwide) 330 Million cases by June 11 . at 5% mortality rate, you're looking at approximately 15 Million deaths in this scenario by July (150x the current 100,000 deaths). What's that going to do to Trump's Reelection chances?

If you want to follow the "flatten the curve over a long period of time" plan, then you need to define "a long period of time". For the best medical results, that would probably be between 6 months and 2 years. However long it takes to develop a vaccine, really. We can't fully put this behind us until we reach herd immunity. For obvious reasons, that plan isn't fully implementable in the real world, so a compromise has had to be made.

I wish the government would reinforce work at home for those possible. My employer is very adamant about having everyone return to the office despite the work being completed. It’s not impacting our day to day workload where we work. I feel that if the government had not even shut down then we would have never worked from home to begin with. I noticed that the major tech companies such as Google and Apple wasted no time in sending their employees home with no issues. There’s no reason to risk people if the workload stays the same.

I'm glad that you have been able to find some peace amongst this virus, but please don't allow that to translate into negligence. Your actions, as well as the actions of your neighbors are what will determine the outcome of this virus in your community.

@@steelersfan419 Exactly! This type thinking is why the virus may continue to spread to others! How one person reacts differs in another. Yet people R hardheaded, probably wont wear a mask, they R selfish & dont think about others. The "if they get it they get it" mentality means others may be affected, including kids, which is heartless thinking, all because people R " bored" or " tired of being home".
@KiNETiKpoWerZ
@KiNETiKpoWerZ 4 года назад
 Fancy Girl She Actually a couple of counter arguments I would like to bring up. The first is that even though there are certain benefits to wearing the mask which we've all already heard about again and again, there are also detriments to mask wearing that are being censored and not reported in mainstream and wearing masks can actually CAUSE sickness in people as you are fostering an enclosed environment where bacteria can become trapped inside especially in the summer heat and humidity. You are also breathing in C02 AND hampering a degree of your oxygen intake which can lead to a myriad of health issues on its own. The other argument is that some people including myself think that with a 0.03% chance of death (probably even way less if you factor in all the reported false positives, inflated death numbers, and untested people that just had mild or no symptoms), herd immunity would actually be a far better strategy and we wouldn't be dragging out the misery like we are now with damaging societal changes, economic collapse, and job loss which are no doubt killing far more people and causing far more damage then this overblown wirus. Economic crashing, suicide , depression and mental health issues sharply spiking, domestic issues skyrocketing, people treating each other like they are lepers, poverty, job loss, etc. I could go on and on about how this whole reactiveness to it has been, and continues to be a 1000 times worse then the actual thing we know nothing about other then what is being told to us. But hopefully you get the idea at this point. None of this was ever worth it in my opinion.
@organicwins91
@organicwins91 3 года назад
@@steelersfan419 you can also catch a cold/flu - there’s no escape - living life is inevitable / you cannot suffocate 7 Billion of the World with Masks any longer - under a microscope it’s disgusting - and nobody opens their minds enough - this “virus” can easily shape shift and the whole planet would be oblivious to it - it can get smaller if it wants to, no matter how many masks you got on - that’s what I think, but my opinion is considered “fake science”, “conspiracy theory”, “non credible source”

It’s an ACT - and now you’ll probably compare me to a Q trump supporter or tin foil hat person. Stop getting manipulated by a news reporter saying “Look at the red line spiking up! Do you see it! Science cannot be denied! Look! Experts have said this and that! Don’t listen to others! They’re conspiracy theorists! Think of your neighbor and family! Don’t be selfish!” This moral compass manipulation is a broken record looping. Step outside of it and notice the censorship, the actors who are pretending to be “conspiracy theorists” or whatever role they play. Even if there weren’t any actors crying on camera due to a covid death, they can easily be used by parasites that NEVER CARED ABOUT LIFE - they are control freaks and anti-life bots.

If some people want to make themselves sick, maybe die in a really horrible way alone in an uncomfortable hospital bed, let them try. I am not going out. I am staying in. I am masked every time I step across the threshold. I am gloved too. I intend to survive these idiots who want to work even under unsafe conditions. Until we have 14days of lowered infections and also 14 days of decreased hospitalizations I will outlive most of the old people in the South and Midwest who listen to Trump and Governors who put the economy ahead of human life. I may even outlive many people younger than I am. Businesses will open up and burn through their PPP money fast and realize that they're just not profitable and revenue just isn't there. After their PPP money runs out in 8 weeks, they will be forced to come out of pocket, take new loans or close up shop. Smart businesses will lay off workers to cut expenses and the same people will be back on the streets again. The current plan does not work and we can already predict the outcome before it happens. People are behind on their rent and mortgages. The only way to save this economy is by bailing out the people and not businesses and large corporations like the past. Politicians still get their comfortable six figure salaries whether they work or not and they still get their donations, lobby money and bribes so they'll continue to live comfortably. The only way to change this is by waking people up to reality. Welfare for the rich, no matter how you label it, is still welfare and that needs to stop right now. What we need is a trickle up economy and that starts with the people.

Steady, consistent, not flashy but it comes with great safety features. So, yes, the US was never ready to be closed; it's not designed to be closed. It's regulations and laws mean it is efficient, lean and goes full-throttle, but with a lack of a safety net. That whole risk/reward system...we Americans lean towards risk for the potential upside but the downside becomes much worse.

The Spanish Flu was a lot more deadly and quick. The 14 day incubation period is what makes COVID so much more difficult to get rid of in a short period of time. I know in 1918 the town where I grew up only needed to shut down for three weeks during the peak of the virus. That was all that was needed because most of the people who got it got really sick or died within a day or two rather than walking around for 14 days aysmptomatic spreading the virus.

Yes, this pandemic is now being compared to the pandemic of 1918-1920 rather than with the swine flu of the early 2000's - it's looking that bad. Deaths will be close in numbers even though it's a different disease but it has similarities and of course just like in 1918, there is no immunity so you would think we could learn from history. The printing of more money led to almost no value to the reichsmarks. In fact it was so worthless that people burned it in fireplaces for warmth, as well as for their transportation, like cars. A loaf of bread would be a BILLION reichsmarks due to extreme inflation when they printed money. That was called hyperinflation.

Why is the lack of emergency preparedness and/or the lack of a sufficient social safety net the fault of those who want to keep the economy closed on the advice of health experts?

I'm not sure I understand this but why are these business/restaurant owners complaining? Let's say it's safe enough to reopen, but people are still suspicious about going out to eat, then what can we do about it? I'm not sure what are they trying argue for here by complaining? What exactly do they want? Like I literally have no clue.

11:57 the first thing to do to reopen the country is to make people understand the seriousness of the situation and its key role so that it is not worse, that's where the government should focus, if there are people who do not comply with the rules of health or who is afraid to reopen, then you can not.

It Takes 30 days to change someone's habit.. And if you keep the county shut for longer, You will change an Entire Nation's habit of going to work, Working out, and spending money..People will became a Couch Potatoes, sitting at home, playing a Video Games, and Not buying anything or going anywhere. The Depression will became a Habit.. That's why it's crucial to restore the old habits, of going to work everyday, taking shower, wearing fresh clean clothes, and shaving.
