Great video as always. Perhaps on my Bday😂. I currently use the little brother the kg-xs20g plus. It is only 20W and have some of the features but is a lot cheaper. I love the CPS. For adding my repeaters, I normally copy the line of the preprogrammed repeater with the same frq then paste and modify the tones and name. It just eliminates possible typos on the RX and TX. I see some post on issues of intermittent freezing on the unit when using the detached faceplate with the cable. So far two have reported that issue and looks like it is limits on the setup using the cable between the faceplate and main unit. Thank you again!

Hello Jim, following up from our texting/comments last week, I purchased the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus and also a 19" Nagoya UT-72G, both are working fantastic. I was able to program and monitor my local fire department frequency into Area A, and transmit and receive a local Repeater with its "Tone In" frequency into Area B of the radio. Both areas A & B are working loud and clear as I hit and switch the Area Button. I don't scan or listen to any other frequencies in Area A, nor do I listen/transmit onto any other channels in Area B. In the Menu, I see Scan-Mode, Scan-Grp, Scan-add, but I am not scanning, I am just trying to listen to both Areas A & B at the same time since both areas have their own speaker. I could turn down the volume of either area pending on my listening concern at the time. It is driving me crazy of how to listen/monitor both speakers (Area A & Area B) at the same time, unless that's not possible? Your knowledge would help me with my confusion as a newbe to this radio programming stuff :)
@GadgetTalk4U
@GadgetTalk4U 5 дней назад
I'm not sure I understand, so forgive me if I've missed the point. The radio should have TDR menu item on. With both area A and B displayed, the top left knob adjusts area A volume and lower left adjusts area B. I used two GMRS HTs on different channels and was able to adjust both areas' volumes. Check two possible things, do you have a priority channel set. I don't use them so don't know how that might impact your issue. Second, check the speaker menu (52) to make sure you're not hearing just the mic speaker. Good luck.
@Wirenutby
@Wirenutby 4 дня назад
Hello Jim, no need to apologize, I just didn't explain my self correctly, sometimes it's tough with words. Following up to your comment, my TDR menu is on. And my Speakers on Area A and Area B are both set to Radio, and not mic nor both. So what I should of said or gave you the scenario, let's say I am listening to my favorite fire frequency on Area A, and someone on my repeater channel I have programmed in on Area B calls out for help. It would be nice to hear both conversations come out of each speaker. I know to transmit on Area B where my repeater is programmed, I have to have the arrow indicator to Area B or I cannot transmit. I'll figure it out sooner or later or that it can't be done. Keep up the videos, I love your content. And you are very easy to listen to and understand.

Hello Jim, in one of your last videos, I asked you if you heard anything about the Nagoya UT-72G not being available? In that video, I didn't realize you made a great video about the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus which I am about to purchase. You mentioned about the Home Assoc friendly antenna in your window, I belong to my wife's association rules as well. Strictly for GMRS, what antenna are you useing and recommend? Thanks so much in advance, Bob from Maine WRJR-209
@GadgetTalk4U
@GadgetTalk4U 12 дней назад
Hi, Bob. I have seen some clever GMRS antennas disguised as plant supports in a pot if you have an upstairs deck or patio. Most any brand will do. The wave length allows for short radials and short vertical. The antenna in my window is an Ed Fong j pole. It doesn't need radials. There are a couple of RU-vid videos where he explains how they work. If you have attic space, you could hang it up there if your roof panels aren't wrapped in foil. I also have a video from late last year on Ed Fong antennas. Cheers.

Thanks again for your videos. Now that you have used the 1000g plus for a while, are there bugs that you have uncovered? I have seen some posts claiming that he bugs made them want the older 1000.
@GadgetTalk4U
@GadgetTalk4U Год назад
I haven't found any. It's my understanding that the first batch had some and were returned to the manufacturer. Sales were suspended briefly until the bugs were fixed. I haven't done any bug searches but you may want the check the dates of the bug reports to see if they were early on. I believe radios with the updated firmware came out in mid November.

I purchased one a few months before they came out with the plus version. Haven't installed it yet but I would assume since they included 15amp fuses that it's not going to be much more than that.
@GadgetTalk4U
@GadgetTalk4U Год назад
The manual calls for a 20 amp circuit and uses a 15 amp fuse, as you said. I'd expect it to stay in the 2 to 12 amp range, though I haven't put it on an ammeter.
@risbill1
@risbill1 Год назад
@@GadgetTalk4U yeah I saw that in the manual but thought it was odd. If you should blow at 16 amps. My hook mine up this week and see how many amps it actually draws at high power.
@risbill1
@risbill1 Год назад
Okay so today I connected the unit to my Jackery which has a rated output of 10 amps on the DC port. It was showing me pulling 145W on a high power GMRS channel which should equal about 12 amps. So it's a little too much on high power for this Jackery but it never tripped anything so maybe it's capable of a little more.

I finally ordered one which should come by the end of the week. I will use it as my base station. I already have a 30 Amp PS and an Ed Fong antenna on my roof. I own 2 other Wouxun; the KG-XS20G+ and the KG-UV9GPro (from BetterSafeRadio). I have added a few channels on both radios. Can I copy the entries from the CPS of either the XS20 or UV-9GPro to the CPS of the 1000G?
@GadgetTalk4U
@GadgetTalk4U Год назад
Sorry about the late reply. Most manufacturer's CPS's don't have an import function and radios don't have a clone function. I suspect it's because database structures differ and imports could really mess things up.

I don't have the 935 so can't say. Chirp's ability to cut and paste between tabs would seem to at least cut down the typing even if they don't transfer directly. I didn't see an export option in the KG-1000G+ CPS but Chirp has one. You could export both radio files in .csv format and combine them appropriately in the structure each radio demands and load back into Chirp - maybe?

I have a question about repeater operations two KG1000's with an input and output tones of 141.3. If you set the input tone to say 141.3 on the receive radio and also set the output tone to 141.3 like you had in the video, do I need to set the input tone to 141.3 on the transmit radio as well as the output tone? Thank You and great video.
@GadgetTalk4U
@GadgetTalk4U Год назад
I haven't set two up as a repeater, but I don't think so. There are a couple of menu settings where you tell each radio whether it is a transmitter or receiver. My guess is you set the tones according to each radio's role in the repeater set-up. Not-a Rubicon did a multi part video on setting these up as a repeater a year or two ago. You might find some good pointers there.

I am planning on purchasing this radio…. I am planning on using this radio as a base station in my home. Since it is a multi band radio…. What multi band antenna should I purchase…..? I am fairly new to amateur radio and I am soliciting advise from you before talking to an antenna salesman…. Thank you in advance for your recommendation. Bill
@GadgetTalk4U
@GadgetTalk4U 2 месяца назад
I'm a bit confused so please bear with me. This is a GMRS radio yet you say you are a new ham. Are you planning on using it for GMRS? If so, consider the Ed Fong J-pole for GMRS. It's inexpensive and can be used in several settings. Since I have HOA issues, mine is standing in a second story window and works my nearby repeaters just fine. If you're looking for a ham radio, this isn't it. There are several dual band ham mobile and mini mobile radios that will work as base stations. Again, depending on your HOA status, the Ed Fong dual band antenna will work as I described above or several dual band antennas on masts with radials are out there. Antennas by Diamond or Comet would work. they are about $70 to $90. Since you wouldn't be transmitting on multi bands with this GMRS radio, getting an antenna tuned for the 460 to 470 megahertz range is the important thing. It would still receive fine for VHF. The Ed Fong antennas are about $50. Link here: edsantennas.weebly.com/ I have a couple of videos on his antennas on the channel. Don't forget to budget for at least a 30 amp power supply and coax to reach the site you have planned. Cheers
