@@sp123@hughporter399 This is where IG is really beneficial. There’s a great card community there. Sure there are some assholes, but they’re everywhere!!
Great episode as always! Funny you brought up that Machado because I was the one who sold the Gold 1st auto that was referenced a few months ago via consignment post National. Small world. 😂
@@SpitballinCards yeah, my brother & I bought a half case of the 2010 Bowman Draft Picks and busted the first box and out popped the Machado Gold auto. We were able to get a nice fee reduction from 4 Sharp Corners from their National promo and walked away around $2,800 net (sale was a little over $3K). Neither of us were Machado collectors so thought it was best to grade/consign it to a new home.
Went down the rabbit hole on eBay looking for a black jelly bean card and wow...lol. I like to look closely at the cards and see what other people overlook in cards from all era's. The card may have little value, but the hunt and what you may find in the card could have some value to you.
If you pay for them you can do whatever you want with them. Hell, we used to put them in our bike spokes - the motorcycle effect. Choose cards wisely if you do this! :)
there is no right way to collect, but one of the primary benefits to having your own collecting lane, or as a specific player collector, is that the friends you make keep their eyes out for your guy. a hobby friend of mine just sent me a 1/1 card i'd have never gotten if he didnt know who i hunt. if i just chased the hot player of the week i'd never had that benefit.
Great point - I love most of the online card community. I get sent Freeman stuff all the time from corners of the market I would never find, or local shows people are at. It’s amazing.
Best baseball card info, talk,on the internet! Hey can u guys talk about what all the stats mean...like war n ops....ops+....ect....I get lost bc idk what any of that means.....I know....lol
WAR is the measure of a player's overall value. For position players, it accounts for offense, defense, and base running. WAR is adjusted for your ballpark, position, and league. It is context-neutral, meaning it does not pay attention to situational or clutch performance. There are two calculations of WAR: fWAR (Fangraphs) and bWAR (Baseball Reference).
OPS+ and wRC+ are similar (yet different) flavors of the offensive component that goes into WAR. OPS+ and wRC+ are league and ballpark-adjusted. The key factors that affect OPS+ and wRC+ are singles, doubles, triples, home runs, and walks.
OPS is On-Base Percentage plus Slugging Percentage. It's a popularly used measure to assess someone's overall offensive production. It has lost some popularity over the last 10-15 years with the emergence of OPS+ and wRC+.
Hopefully we can all just have fun. There's absolutely nothing "moral" about collecting cards of any kind, it's property acquisition and enjoyment of an art form
What I try and do is buy the card I want when I feel like it’s at the bottom. Even though I’m collecting I look at it as a loss when I buy a card that drops. Could have saved there and had more for something else. If something does go up enough and my grip isn’t that tight I’ll sell. Try and recycle that money into something I want more.
Sound alike you’ve had some Good success! It’s tough. I’ve bought some cards I thought were at the bottom but apparently still had further to drop! If you’ve been able to Time it right - 👏👏👏
I know what you mean, Chris... I'm a big Freddie Freeman collector, as well, and for so long I felt like he was my little secret because his cards were SO cheap. Ever since he won the MVP in 2020, however, his cards have skyrocketed... I'm glad because that means my thousands of Freddie Freeman cards are worth more, but I'm kicking myself for not buying more prior to 2020!
@@SpitballinCards I like Bellinger. I think his down years are reflective of his shoulder injury. I did a lot of research on it at the time. I have a few of his bowman chrome autos, his purple, blue and gold. I imagine I’ll hold for a few years and then maybe sell one or two down the line somewhere but for now.. I’m a buy on Bellinger.
collecting gives regular people the opportunity to have the best of something with their individual hobby favorites. i like to claim to have the best pete alonso rookie card collection, lol. do i really, whos knows but it feels great thinking that it could be true. the more specific the favorite maybe the easier to have the best collection ever. for me pride of ownership means more than anything else. the money will come and go but the memories last and last
@@AngellaMyers-e8h probably pretty easy to have the worlds best wander collection at this point. when others zig you zag. wander has become the black jelly bean
@@AngellaMyers-e8h that suuuuucks. The hardest thing to predict is the human aspect of these players. Guilty or innocent, Franco out himself in some seriously stupid situations. He’s caused a ton of harm to himself, his teammates, his team and the hobby - as well as potentially some kids in the DR. Sorry he took you down with him.
I thought jeff was scottie´s favorite person or somethin lol it seemed a bit like a bad joke i just realized its his IG name haha thanks for the vid anyway
Big value bellinger has is his defense versatility. He plays multiple positions and plays them above average. Personally it’s Alonso all the way. I’m a big Mets fan and I Pc Alonso. That to the side. Alonso is a lot better on defense then most ppl assume. Also putting up the numbers he does in Queens is very impressive. We’ve seen plenty of ppl that aren’t cut out to play in New York.
It’s not easy to play in NYC, that’s for sure. Yeah. Alonso has really taken to it and the fans love him. Avg almost 40 hr/year will do that! He’s a fun personality and I like his chances a lot more than Bellinger - I think he had a lucky year. But we’ll see!
Pete Alonso, if he re-signs with Mets, is a better play. The Mets have *never* had a home grown position player in HOF, and he has a shot. There is no such thing as a HOF rookie card for a Mets position player. His upside is better for sure.
That’s a crazy star! Never?! 60 years if the franchise - and not one?? I hope Alonso stays. The fans love him and he can Obviously handle the pressure of the city.
Availability is the best ability I'm taking Alonso over bellinger. It would b crazy to give bellinger 200+ million his agent is scott boras I believe. Dunn I believe 400 hrs but a terrible war score. Thome was awesome
Pete Alonso or Cody Berlinger? Would you rather have your teeth knocked out with a hammer or a hot poker shoved in your eye?😂. In all seriousness, it’s not that horrible of a choice, but I just don’t find either particularly appealing. Completely agree about no right way to collect. Can’t stand the back and forth snide remarks between vintage and ultra modern collectors. It was out in full force during the Wander debacle. Investing, however, is a different animal.
