Maybe. Unfortunately I think society forgives murders over what Wander is being accused of. Okay, maybe not because look at Pete Rose and a few others. I think the biggest thing then is OJ still managed to play 11 seasons. Then of course OJ with 1 rookie card and Wander with 200 million variations. 😅
Plus OJ just had a level of fame that Franco never had and now never will. He’s still famous! I am few years, I doubt anybody will even talk about Franco.
I would really love the teams input on Barry Bonds packed pulled autographs from his active years, specifically looking at a 10/10 on card pack pulled auto from the early 2000's during his 4 year record run. His autos are affordable right now and regardless of hall of fame, he has a legacy that is all time great. Thanks for your feedback!
Chris here - I’d have to know which card, specifically. He’s got some SP authentic autos that just look stunning. His cards aren’t cheap now, but if he ever sneaks into the hall 📈📈
Scotts comment about 99% of modern going down goes with my best purchases in 2023. Which was that I bought barely any modern lol knowing it was still coming down. Now in 2024/2025 most still could come way down but at least for most cards they’ve come down “enough” to reality, imo. I tried vintage in that time and it just wasn’t very enjoyable…. Sadly. Besides the grabbing a few rougher cards for a binder
Infectious talent the kid has.... more fire and excitement than most young gifted prospects.... Bryce Harper like with more likability. I have a Gold Bowman auto PSA 10 & a Gold Bowman BGS 10 auto as well.... for several years now~ . .....@@Philmington
As of right now my biggest mistakes are probably the timing of when I'm selling as I could have gotten back more for what I've sold for. If I had to be reminded of one significant mistake it was years ago holding Bowman Chrome Blue Refractor Auto Matt Harvey.. literally could have given it away. But with the way I collect rarely do I ever go all in on one player. Finding the long term value for me is a combo of (super star status/ HOF path/ milestones/on-off field issues-basically the way theses players carry themselves etc) but I collect mostly hall of famers and those who are on that path and a few I just enjoy playing the game. Since I collect only baseball cards I like collecting vintage for the "love of the game-but values never hurt" but I like collecting modern for the here and now (I mean we live in the present....most vintage collectors who don't collect modern are seriously missing out) (legends may have been born in the past but good/great baseball is happening as we speak and highly competitive). Appreciate the honesty guys in every point of the subject keep it flowing.
It's funny to me you mentioned Guerrero's body type as a possible problem. I was researching the Fielder family and was stunned to see they both had 319 home runs, father and son, that is one heck of an oddity and they both slowed down kind of early. Great show and let's have Arenado be comeback player of the year. That guy is one of my top 3 all-time favorites, and he had a great start in 23 but just seemed to get softer as the year went along, I hope he is not hiding an injury.
I had a fun year ripping anything and everything expect panini (baseball collector). That being said I will narrow it down a ton this year by focusing on singles and unique boxes to rip.
@@chrisc4264 I feel your pain there Chris! I think going for singles and waiting for the end of the season to get those releases you want to rip is probably the most cost effective option
I was having a so so year until the end when I pulled a Brett Baty Let's Go Superfractor 1/1 and an Ohtani Hidden Gems SSP out of Chrome retail. For some reason I have had way better luck with retail through the years. In 24, I'm just gonna focus on trying to sort and organize my massive card collection. I need a staff to help me 😂. Due to finances and PGE gouging us in California ,I will have to sell off some stuff including wax. Not making any new purchases. Thanks for sharing. Love your content !
Thanks for watching. Chris here - jeff and I are both in California and yeah the damn gas prices are infuriating. Congrats on that big Ohtani hit! I’m glad to hear your 2023 went out with a bang
@@SpitballinCards Thanks but I was referring to the utility company, they are criminals. Yeah I know the gas prices are way too high also. Yeah I was quite surprised to pull that Ohtani. Thanks
Good points on Vlad. The skills are still there. He just needs to rediscover them. This upcoming season should be a good window into his dedication and ability to rebound. Admittedly, I haven’t been thinking about his hips very much😂, so maybe that’s the limfac that I’m missing for the long-term outlook.
😂😂 I definitely find myself looking at these players in ways that I never expected. I think Vlad has a few more big seasons in him. Just too much talent for sub 30 home runs seasons.
I can’t see Trout cards imploding to zero. He’s HOF and was the best player for a decade. He will retain value long long term I believe. He will be remembered like Griffey.
Unfortunately nothing like Griffey doesn’t have the style or the it factor though he’s a great player. Griffey is an icon , Trout is just a great player.
I agree with tonysin77....Griffey made a larger national and international impact, he has a nickname anyone could rattle off immediately (what is Trouts nickname??), Griffey was and is an icon that I don't believe has been matched up until Ohtani.
This was my first, full year back in the hobby, after 30 years, & I've had a blast!! I mainly rip retail, and killed it in '23, especially in BOWMAN, & TOPPS CHROME, pulling tons of great autos. Awesome video, fellas, thanks for sharing!!⚾️🔥⚾️🔥⚾️
@@SpitballinCards My favorite pull of '23 would be a SPENCER STEER 1988 Black Parallel /199. He's one of my favorite players, so that was awesome, for me!! I pulled a SPENCER STEER auto out of a TOPPS CHROME blaster, also, which was an added bonus!! Hopefully '24 is a great year for the hobby, and all who love it!!!
For baseball cards highs and lows, my high is getting in on Junior Caminero early and buying Bowman Green Grass of my favorite players! Low would be buying a couple Ohtani's at the peak... I know thats not a big swing, this year has been pretty good! Super fun podcast, thanks for the reliable uploads!!! Yesterday, I had yall on the Bluetooth speaker at work (I'm a sous chef), everyone was like "wtf is this" but we had a good time!
If you got anybody at the peak, Ohtani is the guy. Long term, he should hold and increase value. Sorry we don’t talk about more food related topics for your coworkers!
I love baseball card transactions where no one is killed😂. Seriously though, the Ohtani Topps Black is awesome. Congrats on that. I saw a BGS 9.5 of that card sell on eBay a week ago for $5.5k. I would imagine you got your PSA 10 for substantially less, depending on when you acquired it.
Thanks! My first in person meet up was definitely a little awkward. My wife was fully convinced I was getting catfished for my kidneys. Hahah, it was NOT substantially less!
I've heard thst a lot of collectors are throwing their Wandar Franco cards away,i ssy good that will make my varied and multitude of rookies i have of him will become a lot more valuable if he plays this year.Which i believe strongly that he will.
Biggest key pickup for me was an Aaron 1954 Topps Rookie in a PSA 3. Wanted to pick one up ever since I got back into the hobby. But I think interacting and meeting new people has been the highlight of my 2023. Love talking to you guys, either on here or IG and keep up the great work!
Turned out pretty awesome toward the end of the year timing was everything in being able to relinquish some acquired cards to acquisition of cards I truly desired especially Superfractors that managed to surface as far as 2024 I have no cards of interest or sets to chase I’m quite content in my 2023 acquisitions in cards
@@SpitballinCards ikr 😂 I’m surely going to try my best is how I should have stated it I have subscribed to you all and enjoy this and your each individual channels just as much always looking forward to newly released content 🔥
If we can pick the RIGHT player all the time, then it doesn't matter how long you should hold onto the card. However, even if we can predict or project 100 % of their stat lines 100%, still we can't control what they do in their private lives and PED. In my opinion, Flippers and Collectors don't understand the upside down bell curve principle.
I think a separate category for losses/misses. Performance based/on field. Then off field I just leave out. You still picked a great on field player. Episode takeaway...no wrong way to collect. Happy New Year fellas ✌🏽🇺🇸⚾️
You’re right. There’s no way to predict human behavior like this. Nobody knew what kind of scumbag Franco was. It stinks for the girl, the Rays, and to a lesser extent the people who collected him passionately. It’s scary really. The idea that a chunk of our collections can go to $0.0 in the blink of an eye.
@@SpitballinCards Yep. I didn't have many cards of his but my 19 Bowman wax took a hit for sure. At least Julio is in it also. Luckily the two main guys I PC are proven Hall of Fame players and not some prospect I have no idea about.
Wonder hurt a lot of people !!...Seems he now holds a lot of weight because a slight dip came around the same time he started having issues!! It can be an up and down game !! Yet, the lose is generally not massive for most people !! I really love collecting !! So fun !! I just hope to stick it out and not get discouraged !! I would like it to pay off even if its a couple Years from now !! I really just hope 2 never not enjoy it !! Wish y'all the best!!
Enjoying the hobby is the number one goal! Wander definitely get a lot of collectors. When your cards go to $0 overnight, the hobby is definitely not fun. I feel terrible for people who were heavily invested in Franco. Just no way to predict a guy being a total scumbag.
@@SpitballinCards I feel terrible too!! Its awful !!! I Knew a guy at a local card show that told me a story about him being on the low!! I didn't want 2 spread anything and had no hard evidence ! Just in case I just stayed away and informed a few people on the low !! I told them to do their own research ....I may have got to a couple people but many just ignored it because ya really can't know for sure !! I was careful about who I told !! Yet the thing is ? He isn't guilty yet and I do not want to assume !!
I’m really hoping Snell goes to the Yankees. He’s been better than Greinke up to age 30 with 2 Cy Youngs and him and Cole would be nasty 1/2. If he wins another Cy Young, better believe there will be talks of HOF.
Chris here - I’m guessing Yankees are somewhat gun shy on lefty SP after Rodon last year. But Snell would be a great fit for them. Just can’t count on a repeat of his 2023 stats.
I don't think Ohtani is even close to Trout yet in terms of career accomplishments. I mean if Ohtani is just a dh for the next year and a half I don't think that really helps him at all. His injury history isn't great either. I love Ohtani I just think people need to pump the breaks a little bit
