Are we one step closer in the search for alien life? Dr Clara Sousa-Silva thinks she has found evidence of life on Venus - a toxic, overheated, crushing hellscape where every rover ever sent has melted.

It probably isn't life. But it's nice to imagine something microscopic struggling to survive in the atmosphere.

Trust me, there's life in the upper atmosphere of Venus, extremophiles, they're in the form of microorganisms which are replenishing Phosphine in the upper atmosphere of Venus

I, for one, truly appreciate how Venus has clouds and rain made out of sulfuric acid. Being as hot as an industrial oven at all times is already one heck of an accomplishment, so the sulfuric acid clouds is like a cherry on top of that hellishness. Nice!

It's not a microwave oven. 50km above the surfsce temperatures reach 0-70°C. This is were the observation of PH3 obviously was found. One estimates that microorganisms are floating up to thrive and down to sporulate in the heat of above 100°C. On earth you find thermophiles in the cooking sulfuric acids of Yellowstone ponds. It's not far to assume this type of extra -terrestrian (venusian) extremophiles. But maybe data are misleading. Until we get there with the planned future missions and then we know for sure

There is a layer in Venus' atmosphere that doesn't exceed 20-30 degrees Celsius with earthlike pressures and its many kilometers thick. Its not hard to imagine some very hardy microbes floating around in that layer. If present they could be the extremophile decedents of life that existed on Venus when it was more habitable or its earth life that found its way there during an impact event.

Russian sends some probe The probe was infected with microbes Those microbes happened to survive in the clouds of Venus Today you are calling it life
@Jbd0319
@Jbd0319 11 месяцев назад
That’s likely not what happened because the microbes on earth are evolved to live in an oxygen rich environment. Microbes that produce phosphine are built to live in environments that don’t contain oxygen so the possibility of microbes instantly adapting to life on Venus is practically 0%. Not even to mention the time spent in the vacuum of space would likely kill the microbes as well

It is possible that these life ingredient molecules could be present in Venus atmosphere, but I highly doubt that life itself present in the atmosphere. Just look at how life formed here in Earth, it was not on land, was not on atmosphere 100 feet over land, it was on water. And life is not just DNA molecules, life is a water solution with DNA and other life molecules are solutes. Air is very high energy state, and venus atmosphere has very less water, and still highly acidic, means highly reactive, also highy absorbs UV rays, so many things that just not conducive for life to exist in Venus atmosphere. All you going to find is organic molecules, not life.
