Shirley Lee was the editor-in-chief of The Reporter and was promoted to chief operating officer last year. In this episode, we talk about journalism, truth, facts, trust, efficiency, values, fairness and goodwill.
He was the editor-in-chief of The Reporter and was promoted to chief operating officer last year.
At the end of last year, Shirley sent a message to H to congratulate us on our podcast's pick of the year, and her work at the helm of The Reporter was listed next to it.
Shirley is H's schoolmate, and she's a great character.
That's how I learned about Shirley a few years ago.
I've never met her before, but I've often heard her praised by many cultures, thinking she should be a tough woman. I remember once I read one of her poems, she went on stage to receive an award on behalf of The Reporter at the 2022 Soon-Man Oh Journalism Award Ceremony, and one of the main points of the poems was that the pants she wore on stage to receive the award were actually torn! We didn't know whether to congratulate her for the award or discuss the eco-friendly pants first!
When H told me that Shirley messaged him to congratulate him, I asked H to invite her to come to our podcast, to get to know her, to understand her past experiences, to listen to her thoughts and opinions about her, to find out what kind of person she is, to find out if she's funny in person, and if her pants would be torn on that day too? (Laughs)
During the editing process, I told H more than once, "I really like Shirley ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah!
She is really a person of conviction, with just the right amount of rationality and just the right amount of sensibility, with a sense of justice but not passionate, open minded, logical, and speaks in a calm and steady manner that gives people a sense of stability. Compared to her, I feel that I am very much like a passionate kid who can't even speak clearly, no wonder she has been able to lead The Reporter, a non-profit online media outlet, to walk through the difficult path for eight years.
I loved hearing Shirley's stories about the bizarre things she's been through, the absurdity of her interviews and her journey, especially the silicone doll part, which was a real eye-opener! Ah! There are also secrets that can't be shown without breaking the moral boundaries!
