My husband and I are about to go on our eighth Viking River cruise (having 2 ocean cruises behind us, this will be our 10th with Viking) and we have been in a Standard level stateroom for 7 of those trips. What we discovered was that the common areas of the ship, including the Observation Deck, allowed you to see more of what you came to experience on a river cruise in the first place. On top, there's a 360 degree view of beautiful places and countryside. From a state room window or veranda, you only get to see a limited view of the river. As wonderful as it is to step outside of the stateroom and take in a few private moments of the river and countryside, the savings allows you to take one more excursion or two along the way. In the end, all aboard get the same thrill of adventure and eat the same wonderful food that a Viking cruise extends to everyone. River cruises are our favorite and your trip sounds thrilling!
I have to agree with you about the standard E and F cabins. The F cabin being identical to the E, but just a little further aft. We had to ask for a larger size bathrobe and it was immediately provided. The light in one of the closets didn’t work. We mentioned it to the front desk and, like magic, an engineer appeared at our door to sort it out. I just cannot say enough positive things about our Grand European cruise or about the staff on the boat. One of our waitresses, Laura, made it her mission at dinner time to ensure that your wine glass was never empty. We bought two future cruise vouchers and have since booked Paris to the Swiss Alps. We also booked the Glacier Express extension ending in Geneva. Hint: Book this one early, it sells out quickly.
Viking River Cruises is on my travel bucket list. Thank you so much for the room tour. This would be plenty of space for me as a solo traveler and I never thought to ask for extra hangers so thank you for the tip!
Solo travel is very expensive. Need to pay double in most of time. No exceptions for traveling with Viking. However, I just checked the price for one sailing, Grand European 14N for Jun 14/2026, Viking offer discount for the standard cabin for solo traveler. You pay 175% instead of 200%. You pay 14348.25 CAD , not 8199 x 2 = 16398CAD. Not sure if it apply for all sailing.
Awesome place & booking on a cruise is totally any one’s wish .. when I was young I remember my parents taking us in a big ships and I would admire the sea view at night .. it used to be scary but awesome too .. all around sea and nothing else but when we used to cross any land there used to be lights and that was so good .. remembering childhood days 😇 it’s all memories I have .. love the luxury rooms and your review. Again the information was what I needed as the lower state room is exactly where my wife and I will be staying on our river cruise. Our thinking was 1,Price/ 2, we only will be sleeping there during cruise/ 3, we will be either on land tours or common areas of ship majority of time. Yes we we concerned of maybe being cramped in the lower rooms, but after watching your video we both feel relieved. Again thank-you for your video great help.
The space beneath the bed for bags! A great idea to give more space. Now, how do those magnetc hooks work? Is there metal behind the walls? Not perfect, but the staff did a great job assisting you 😊
Went on the Amsterdam to Budapest itinerary last year, stayed in a standard stateroom. It was tight, but the only times it felt really cramped was packing and unpacking. Otherwise tight but OK.
Thank you for the straightforward, no nonsense video. The Veranda room is 225 (?) sf vs the State room at 135 (?). Is the difference in the entirely due to the outside balcony.
