Just bought this mower today, can’t wait to try it, hope it does well with my thick zoysia grass. I previously purchased a Honda and the electric start crapped out in 3 days
Wow - hate to hear that. Honda is stopping their mower production soon so may have given up. I loved this mower. It is an absolute beast. Make sure to report back when you've tried it out!
Bought the mot expensive Honda push mower on the market two years ago, lasted not even an entire season before the autochoke failed. I had it repaired and it failed again within a few months….never again.
Just bought today. Expensive, but I was planning on getting some 12.0 batteries, so this checks the batteries and needing a new mower items off the list.
I just came to comment on the $1200 a month for groceries 😂 but in also seriousness awesome review. I’ve been on the fence about buying this mower but I think I’m going to go for it. Thanks!
Ok... I watched your review on the Craftsman lawn mower and purchased it despite your concerns. I really regret my decision. It broke after 4 cuts, customer service sent me a video to troubleshoot the problem, but still, it just broke and I'm in the process of returning it and all the Craftsman equipment I purchased. You can't go wrong with Milwaukee.
I have the money to but it but like you said a saw bone! I think I can justified the cost because I can can get the other tools like chainsaw and drills later.
Brand new owner of the Milwaukee mower. Before first mow I sprayed the underside of deck including blade with a dry graphite spray it see if it will reduce buildup or at least make cleaning daisies.
@@MoyuZ it was only good for about 2 mows, about 2 hours, the coating is not durable enough to last at least several mowings, but very little build up while it lasted.
It will be interesting how they build the Milwaukee snow thrower. Because it's slightly possible to be the same battery set up as the mower. If they can and it works well ... it kinda proves large amph along with 40v is pretty capable.
Yep - Milwaukee has a REDLINK system that helps communicate between the battery and motor very efficiently. Ryobi has a similar setup with their "HP" line of stuff.
@The Lawn Review well its mainly because Milwaukee finally used 2 batteries in series. Conversely they made so many HO hand tools at 18v ... and they can't run continuously. They are not good performers compared to the competition. They should do a 180 like makita for the bigger powerful hand tools.
You also need to think about the battery system you’re gone be getting into as well. Worx doesn’t make the best outdoor tools. Look into ryobi, ego and Greenworks.
That’s kinda why I’m thinking of not getting the m18. Battery platform I’m looking at it solely from outdoor equipment and Toro has a snowblower and power shovel, Milwaukee doe not.
Finally pulled the trigger and got the M18 mower, using my 10% discount at Home Depot, to replace my Kobalt 80v (gross). Absolutely love this mower! Question, what blade do you use? After my first cut, i checked the blade for dings as i always do, and realized brand new, the blade seems super dull. Just curious if you use a stock blade, or the mulching blade, or anything else thats compatible. As always, thanks for all you do man!
Thanks - I just use the stock blade, but haven't had to sharpen it or anything. Have you thought about sharpening? You can use an angle grinder or go by Ace Hardware.
Mower prices have gone through the roof. My neighbor last month sold me his John Deere D-160 tractor with 100 hrs on the clock for $1700. After watching your presentation, I now know I got a deal. I'm sure that's not your mower of choice for that big yard unless you are a masacasis. I also have a Kobalt 80 volt lawnmower that I have used 125 times to mow my yard using two batteries one at a time. I now still use this mower for tight spaces. The problem with these new mowers is if something breaks, there are not many replacement parts.
Good point. If it breaks then it's done for. They do have decent warranties, but most are only 3-5 years. The John Deere D-160 is phenomenal and you got a great deal. Why was he selling?
Great review! Maybe you stated this & understand depends on usage, but any idea how long the battery life is on these mowers? Do not have tools to match up w/mowers that you have recommended which reduces the appeal some by going electric. However, am in the market for a premium mower w/cut quality being premium & like to bag most of time.
Hey! Thanks for watching. I know you mentioned you don't have any other electric lawn tools - but do you have any power tools? Milwaukee, Makita and Ryobi all have battery series that can cross over from power tools to lawn tools. Run time will vary, but you can get the highest Ah batteries and those will last a while. With this one, I'd expect about 45 minutes or so. If you are bagging then you'll likely be able to extend run-time vs. mulching.
When they released this last year there were a lot of reports about the main switch having a design flaw that made it have problems engaging correctly in order to start the mower. Not everyone experienced it though, but I wonder if the issue was corrected in the inventory that ships out this season? I went with a battery platform last year and like it, but really wanted to try this mower because of the steel deck, but the entry price makes me hesitant to deal with an issue like that if its still present.
Didn't know that! So if you're looking for one with a better price point that I would still use, EGO has one model with a steel deck which is great and an awesome battery series (thelawnreview.com/ego-select-cut-vs-select-cut-xp/). Greenworks also has a decent one you can grab at Costco, which I did a video review of as well. What battery line up do you have?
Bought one last month and currently have that issue. Found out that if you zip tie the handle so that when you squeeze the draw bar it leaves a gap just enough where the power button would stay engaged that way the mower won't shut off. Very dumb buttom/switch design by Milwaukee that can be solved with a zip tie. I hate it but also love the mower lol. Just something to keep in mind.
Also sharpen the blade when you get it. I didn't check the blade before the first use and my fully charged batteries lasted me only 15 mins. I then put the batteries on the charger while deciding to look over the mower and found out that the blade that was on the mower wasn't even sharpened at all from Milwaukee.
I bought an m18 but then returned it thinking maybe it wasn’t worth it with all of the reviews. I got the Ego+ mower and man the battery died after mowing my front lawn which isn’t big at all and the grass wasn’t long. I’m a little worried I made the wrong decision, I really don’t want to be having to wait an hour for the battery to charge to do my small back lawn.
I'm a Milwaukee guy, already have a few yard tools from them and a crap-ton of tools but I was surprised when I heard they were coming out with a lawn mower a few years ago. Quite honestly, I thought it was an April Fools joke or something. Looking at my first house, already have the batteries so I'm looking up reviews of the mower... here's hoping it lives up to the positive reviews
Just returned mine after 3 months. Mulching quality was horrible. Left clumps everywhere. So I tried bagging it and would only fill bag half way. I even slowed it down to 3 of 5 walking speed and left it on Turbo mode the whole time and it didn't help. All it did was drain the battery faster. Yes, it will go thru anything without stopping, but cut quality was sub par.
I just bought one few weeks ago, the blade was not sharp at all so I sharpened it with my file and it cuts awesome now. Sorry you had a bad experience. I cut my lawn a couple of times. I guess time will tell if it holds up for me.
Personal thought, Ego lawnmower or Milwaukee? I lost all my outdoor power tools due to a fire, but I have all Milwaukee power tools. My only downfall with Milwaukee, no snowblower in the pipeline I know of. But honest thoughts as to which you would go with. Cost isn't a factor. Thanks in advance.
Hmmm! This was a good mental exercise. I hate to hear that about the fire! All good besides property? I would’ve 100% said Milwaukee if you didn’t say snow. EGO has a sick snow blower. So I’d have to say EGO.
@@TheLawnReview yes the 2 stage snow thrower I have seen some people throw snow in buffalo. I'm outside of Detroit, so we get maybe one or two snow storms a year these days. Ego outdoor system over Milwaukee then? Whole package. I've heard the ego 16" chainsaw shreds not sure if you ever did a review on them yet.
I haven’t used that particular chainsaw yet but yeah I’m sure it does. Honestly EGO’s leaf blower (760 CFMs) and their string trimmer are two of my favorite tools in my arsenal. I have the lucky fortune have tons of blowers and that’s the one I use 99% of the time. Milwaukee’s mower is better but EGO’s overall platform is better IMO.
@@TheLawnReview thanks for the honest feedback. Going into stores and calling the manufacturer reps provide very little help towards a decision when they don't use one brand or even know the competition. With Ego lawnmower, would 7 ft lbs or torque be good vs the 8.3. you mentioned Milwaukee was 10, I honestly didn't know that. So it really got me thinking.
I bought the M18, but then pretty much every review says the Ego+ plus is worth it because it’s price tag, plus every review said the Milwaukee left clumps of grass really bad everywhere or it missed spots, well the Ego+ battery drained after doing my front small lawn and then I had to wait like an hour to charge the battery again to do my small back Lawn. Hopefully I didn’t make a bad decision here.
Meaning I try using it again while cutting going back and it won’t go I got it replaced and it’s on demand now every time I press it works and tires run.
I've been using this mower for about 16 months. Coming from a Toro super recycler (gas) I used for 17 years. Cut quality isn't near as good but I have accepted that. Attachments are pretty cheesy but my biggest complaint is the batteries. Will only charge to 60-75% now.. (In a draught zone and don't water, only mow 4 months out of the year.) So am I supposed to buy new batteries (at 250.00 each) every 2 years?? Totally unacceptable- going back to gas.
Love milwaukee, have all their mevahnics tools, but not worth the money imo. I've had my ego for 4 years now, nothing failed and has cut through my backyards 2 foot weeds. Got the mower and the carbon fiber weedeater for 800 together with the batteries.
Wow - that's a great deal. This mower was one of our favorites, mostly because it has a metal deck and REDLINK technology, but you can't beat that price for EGO's mower and weed eater. Glad you like them! Have you tried their blower? We did a comparison video with their 765 CFM blower and Ryobi blower.
I brought ryobi mower I caught on sale for 230 this past November. I'm happy with it. It's non self pro-pell. I'm okay with that. The mower is very light when compared to a gas mower
After purchasing an AEG 58v mover with a steel base after 4 to 5 years the base paint peeled off exposing the base to the wet grass which within a fleeting period base started to rust. All 7 batteries purchased in that period developed faults. So, i am not a huge fan of electric movers with steel bases now. How hoping that brands start making electric mowers to last a bit longer. I have noted that ego has released an electric mover with aluminium based in 2024. In hindsight with steel base mower regular cleaning of the base after use and a bit of WD 40 spray after the clean to impair the rust may have extended the life of the mower
Sorry you had a bad experience. I like the durability and weight of mowers with metal decks. I have the new EGO aluminum deck mower, too and it is pretty sweet. Check it out here: thelawnreview.com/ego-lm2200sp-aluminum-mower/
Just to let you know all the AEG 58V batteries manufactured in the year 2022 are under recall notice as well in Australia. hoping the EGO aluminum deck mower, will be available in Australia@@TheLawnReview
Was it charging the batteries sequentially instead of simultaneously? Might have been why it took twice as long. Also-you said run time was “ridiculous” but how much area of tall grass do you think you could you could realistically cover on a charge? I think I would multiply that by 75% to estimate what it will be in 3-5 years when the batteries wear.
I hadn't really thought about that until you said that. You very well could be right about sequential charging. Both lights were blinking like they were in "active" charging status but it could just be one after the other. Realistically I think if you had REALLY long grass like I tested in the video you could probably get a half acre mowed in a single charge. Milwaukee has a pretty good battery platform technology called "redlink" that is supposed to be extremely efficient!
@The Lawn Review that's good but sucks. I was hoping to save couple hundred bucks. I guess the good side is I do have a couple extra m18 12ah batteries already
I will tell you that the motor on the 80V Greenworks is the most impressive mower I’ve seen from a motor perspective though. The turbo feature is awesome. The Milwaukee is probably the most comparable to a gas in terms of feel but I’ve been super impressed with with power of the GW. FWIW.
Needs improvement. The extra plastic parts needed to switch between discharge, and mulch are frustrating. They should have copied competitors with convenient systems that work. Also, the Milwaukee badging is a bit extreme and fanboyish. I have thousands of dollars of Milwaukee, but this one's not for me at this price.
I think people have gotten confused as to which mower to even review with them anymore. They have a new mower coming out basically weekly and like 75 different types of mowers. 24v, 40v, 60v, 80v, 84v, etc all with different battery and charger configurations. Plus the quality really hasn’t stood the test of time in my experience
@@TheLawnReview Thank you. I think 1 or 2 years ago now I was really into wanting a battery powered lawnmower so I went to Home Depot and purchased a Ryobi for about $400.00. I returned it the very same day because both batteries were jammed and refused to come out. After taking it back to Home Depot the Ryobi rep tried pulling one out and finally did but only after he placed a call to his buddies for Ryobi to ask if they had encountered the same problem. My experience with Ryobi is JUNK! I was hoping to have kept the mower due to a birth defect that affects my spina and back. Plus no more gas to buy. I just recently fixed the air filter and the pull cord to my gas mower. I never had experience with replacing the cord before. It runs like a champ!
New Makita is about $700 with 2- 4ah batteries, buy 2- 8ah batteries and it would be an additional $700+ bucks. What's appealing about the Makita is the handle to actuate the self propel. In the end, it feels like failure to acquis to todays ridiculous prices and no matter what you buy, you still have to get out there and do the work.
I just bought the 19 inch Makita XGT 40v mower in Australia. Done 3 lawns since Friday. I got 19 inch kit with 2x5ah batteries and got 2x8ah batteries and dual charger. I can't speak highly enough of this mower. It is very efficient and only needs 1 battery to operate and will auto swap to second battery when empty. The huge wheels make pushing very easy. Has 4 swing back blades with good suction. Self propel I thought would be awkward to adjust but is very intuitive. Commercial build quality is fantastic. Didn't want to spend most my savings 😢 with the extra 8ah batteries, but in practice they are well worth it. I wanted either Honda commercial fuel or battery Milwaukee. Makita LXT has cut off and lag issues so ignored Makita until I was shown the new XGT. A lot of videos show it beating Ego select cut and Honda cost more plus fuel costs. Needing 2 huge batteries for M18 FUEL vs 1 for XGT was what tipped the scales for me. It never stalled in tall thick grass that would stall my 140cc mower.
Sounds cool,I've heard nothing but good things about the xgt mowers plus they are very cost efficient for what all you get...ive gotta get a couple of 8s myself by this fall for my blower,I think the 8.0s are almost a must for the ope line.
Makita and Milwaukee are very similar - you'll be great with either model. Most folks have more Milwauekee stuff which makes saving money on batteries easier. But if you're a Makita person then I say go with them.
The difference in price is the difference in batteries. The Milwaukee is on sale now with (2) 8ah HO batteries for $999. Plenty of videos comparing the two and with the difference in batteries, not much of a decision.
Ive been thinking about getting one butI’ve herd the motor is mounted on plastic brackets, which are starting to crack and break. Pretty disappointing to hear these stories.
I have watched a ton of reviews for this mower (BTW most of them comment about the leaking mulch plug) but was waiting for the TLR stamp of approval before pulling the trigger on this bad boy. One silly question: Regarding the plastic star wing nuts securing the two halves of the handle, any idea if those can be reversed such that the wingnuts are inside the frame of the handle (to avoid getting hung-up in a chain-link fence)? Thanks again for a superb review!
Thanks for the kind words and so glad you watched and enjoyed! I haven't given that a try yet, but that's a really good point. Let me check it out and get back to you.
@@TheLawnReview No need. I just watched another reviewer unsuccessfully attempt to assemble it in such manner. Apparently, the hardware is designed specifically to fit one way, certainly no surprise. Thanks so much!
@@TheLawnReview still in stock at local dealers and big box stores and parts should be available for several years. $1000 for a mower is insane. I can get the Ego LM2156SP for $799. I know the cut quality is better with the Milwaukee but is it worth the extra $$$. The 2156 has a 5 year warranty the Milwaukee has a 2 year warranty. If it was a $50 or $100 difference it might be worth it. I admit it I won’t spend money unless I absolutely have to
Value for money, Ego's better😁 Just to setup the mower to run commercially for a day's runtime, I'm looking at $8,000nzd!!! For that price, I can get EGO mower, blower, multi tool power head(trimmer head), charging station (lifepo4 battery, 2000w inverter/charge controller), backup petrol mower, backup petrol line trimmer!🤣
@@jordanharetuku9044 Good point on the rust. EGO mowers are great - we've done a couple reviews with their mowers. Glad you like yours. The multi-tool is maybe my favorite tool of all time.
I will take my ego select cut xp any day over the Milwaukee. Select cut double blade system gives a better cut and ego has the best battery technology in the industry it makes Milwaukee look like an antique . I would put the ego 12 ah battery against any other mower battery and the ego has better battery technology
Best mower i ever owned was FREE!!! A neighbor threw out a HONDA self propelled mower… about 13 years ago…one squirt of starter fluid and it started, turns out the drive belt was off the pulley, easy zero dollar fix… 13 years later still runs like new…
It is a great mower. The thing I love about the Milwaukee is that it feels just like that Honda one, but no fumes and no maintenance. Can't beat free, though!
I just gave away my 17 year old Honda self propelled mower , as well as my string trimmer and blower and got all battery powered. Just like not having to deal with gas and oil. My Honda still ran great and started on first pull if weather is warm enough.
@@TheLawnReview I went with EGO. Can’t give a long term review yet but it gave my Bermuda a really good first of the year scalp n bag cut! Love the trimmer and blower!
@@shannonstarr2232 Can't go wrong with EGO. Top of the line experts in battery-powered lawn tools. Also love that they just have the 56V line. We did a long review of their multi-tool. You should check that out if you want to do hedge trimming, pole saw, snow throwing or edging.
Just received mine today and two quick things to note. 1) You can easily add the Toro Stripe System to the Milwaukee mower AND use the rear side discharge. I just moved the stripe system over from my gas 22” Toro Recycler. 2) The mulch plug on the Milwaukee REALLY needs a redesign to lock it in place, as the back flap door spring is not strong enough to hold it in place. When you stand-stow the mower with the mulch plug in place, you can gently touch the mulch plug from inside the deck and the plug backs out with no effort. I may tape mine in place if I choose to mulch vice side-discharge (which I always did with the Toro).
I noticed that, too. Seemed to have grass gather around the side discharge plug. I almost never use the bag, so didn't get close enough to the issue to notice it. Thanks for watching!
Let’s be realistic: the mower itself is about $500, and comes with $500 worth of batteries. This is right in line with other mowers on the market…Ego mowers with no batteries are right around $500. So, no it’s not the most expensive mower on the market. It only comes as a package and makes it seem super expensive.
@@TheLawnReview The newest Ego is $100 cheaper. Everyone has stuff in the $8-850 range, and none have the power of the Milwaukee. Some have far inferior product in the $600 range that isn’t even worth comparing to. Top line mowers are all pretty much in the same ballpark. I mean, DeWalt has a package putting out a measly 3lb-ft priced at $850! 🤣 Yeah, the Milwaukee destroys it.
Not even close to being worth the money. Ego has cornered the market on mowers for one simple reason. The one battery echo system!!! Having two batteries sit in your garage or tool shed all winter after spending $1100 is a complete waste and is just a setup for a bad day when they both are found dead and unusable when you need them. (like most cheap cordless drills) I use my Ego batteries all year long between my blower and my 2 stage snow blower then all season with all the other tools they power. To spend this kinda money on one tool is just a waste. I dont see this mower being around in 2 years.
The strength that MIlwaukee has is that you can take the same tools you use for your power tools in the garage and use them in the mower and their other tools. EGO doesn't have that breadth yet. But I have to admit - EGO makes some darn good lawn tools. The Milwaukee is better, but maybe not worth the price.
