Sorry guys,as a former "Sissi"lower officer of the Finnish Border Guards military Sissi. During my time in the military of Finland,there where not many of us that brought that Sissi Puukko. Most of us had handmade Finnish puukkos,even if this Puukkos was made for all us in the Sissi/long range special forces. This was during the early 1990:s when Soviet Union exists and disappeared. My Puukko was a handmade Sami Puukko with reindeer antlers and Birch wood. I got my knife from my ww2 veteran (Winter War/continuous War of Finland) grandfather,from my fathers side....i would love to have the knife that his best friend had. His best friend was found in Suomussalmi/Raate battle with 6 Soviet soldiers killed by him because he was out of ammunition.The Soviets tried to take him as a POW, but that was not what he wanted. He was killed with a Soviet bajonet on a top of a Mosin Nagant.My grandfathers unit found him after the battle was taken part....i dont know where to that Puukko of his ended up in. Im so disappointed that he did not let me have it. Puukkos have always been a part of my life. I always got a new Lapin Leuku from my relatives as a child in the 1970 and the 1980.....lite really was a kind of religion for us kids😮

I have 2 versions of this knife, the M95 - 6" with the teflon coating and leather sheath and the M07 - 4.5" with the uncoated Scandi grind and the base polymer sheath. I have used the M07 the most with the scandi grind. they are both really impressive, the M07 is a beast in the field, extremely good at any type of cutting and when it loses some of it's bite it bounces right back with just a touch up on a ceramic rod. I think the basic polymer sheath is a winner with the Rubber Roller lock and the excellent sheath drainage, plus the multiple carry options the sheath gives. I 100% recommend this knife.

Thanks for a great review! I have the longer versions of the knife, uncoated, the teflon coated and the one with Cerakote. I use it for hiking (along with a folding saw) as well for my GHB and BOB. First heard of this knife was when I heard that the swedish special operation group (SOG) was the first special forces to use it on duty. Varusteleka has their own version of this knife (terävä jääkäripuukko) and it´s made in the same factory with the same steel, can also recommend that one. Best regards from Sweden

I've been waiting for this video. I've had the larger version (m95) for a few years as my only larger fixed blade, and I have used it extensively, especially for batoning, and it's held up great. I have friends in the Finnish army, and this knife is super popular there. 100% would recommend.

I've had the M95 model with a longer blade since 2003 and the Teflon coating has stayed on surprisingly well.

Teflon can be great when new, but with continued woodworking it usually scuffs off a bit and makes the knife look not so great. For a utility knife that's not really a problem, and with carbon steel every little bit helps. Oiling one's carbon steel knife with e.g. canola oil is good practice, and preserves its food compatibility. Some hand forged knives can have quite a rough surface above the grind (mine is a Roselli), and keeping them absolutely hygienic for food preparation can be a chore.

Thank you for your opinion, always argued and interesting. I have been using the M07 knife hard for two years. The comfort for my hand is excellent, the case is very reliable (This is true for the leather or plastic case); it is easily sharpened and the cutting edge is very durable. Cerakote coating holds better than Teflon (I have both). The weight is very comfortable when hiking. In my opinion, a real versatile tool for both the forester and probably for the soldier in the field. Finally, its price is affordable, so that there is no sorrow to make it suffer. Oh awesome! I'm so glad you got to try this knife out and review it! I got the longer uncoated version a few months ago, with the Kydex sheath and I really love it. The grind is wonderful, and the sheath is super secure. I personally love how it can be carried in a sideways scout carry. Personally, I think the m07, the shorter blade, would actually ve more handy and useful than the big long one, and am super excited to watch your review and get your thoughts!

Well nice Aaron you found Peltonen knives! At Europe for those who "know" , it is for years is like Gerber LMF at U.S. But......much more better in every way. The steel is performing excellent, the handles are amazing at ergos and feel, and as for me having it at the bigger version (15 mm) with the leather sheath, i m a very happy owner. The Rokka is also a great knife , but at almost double the price and smaller , with higher Rockwell, but it can chip more easily. Lamnia is the best place to purchase it , and for deployment is an excellent choice , specifically at the kydex version. The price is a giveaway, just get it guys.

Finland just became a Nato country, the Peltonen has been around for thirty years. But I hope the Nato seal of approval boosts sales :D The original design was based on a bayonet blank and was very rough. We're looking at maybe the third gen now. There have been several types of aftermarket sheaths, generally I prefer kydex.

The knife that I have that is similar to this is the large 140mm bladed Jakaaripuuko from Varusteleka. It’s a scandi/saber ish grind but an incredible ply tough 80CrV2 knife that’s very versatile and bombproof.

Scandi. Boil blade in apple cider vinegar until patina shows.

Have both m95 and m07 with teflon coating. M95 have been my "beaterknife" and use that to do things that I don't do with puukko. Batoning, light chopping etc. It takes it all with smile. Highly recommend. Can't think better all around compact "survival" type knife, especially in that price.

My review. Was a dealer. Old timer. Have over 100 fixed blade knives. I have the 6 inch version. It is one of 4 fixed blades that sit within handreach. In fact, I have two . . . Buy the 6 inch version. Originally adopted by the army of Finland and then Estonia. The sheath system needs to be replaced by you. There are so many ways of affixing a knife to your person or equipment. I simply went into my big box of sheaths. Pulled out a noname leather sheath that had the retention I wanted. The Harsey Spartan that you reviewed last year is another knife sitting near the computer. Outstanding sheath, best on the market So good that I started trying to get other fixed blades to fit and I would have ordered just the sheath for other knives.

I love 80CrV2 its my new favorite carbon steel. Its all about the heat treatment , I honestly prefer it over using powder steels in the woods.

Thanks for the video! Nice to see those knives in action and heavy use! I have a few of these, being a Finn and a reserve officer ;) I got the original M95&M07 when they first appeared, and now I have them both in the new form as uncoated and the M95 in Teflon coating. The M95 Teflon is the one for real heavy use, it's more weather-proof and the coating *can* take a beating. The uncoated version are too beautiful to use in heavy settings; I sanded them to almost mirror polish and they are now too beautiful to scratch :D The longer M95 Teflon is the most all-round knife for me as I do firewood, cut bushes and all sorts of things in the yard, mainly. It's also perfect for processing fish fillét; very sharp, and the shape of the blade suits that task, too. A tip: the handle needs to be washed thoroughly with soap and a brush. The TPV microtexture is so grippy and small it will sand skin particles from the hand and become more slippery over time. A thorough deep wash will return the excellent grip. To me the composite sheath is the best. It can rattle a little but I'm a fan of Peltonen's idea of the roller securing the knife to the sheath. I's so easy to operate with one hand both in and out. The composite sheath is also the most versatile with its attachment options, either to outdoors or military gear, or to the belt. I've got a separate dangler loop for belt use. I also have the Rokka knife in N690 stainless with the kydex sheath. Compared to the Ranger knife it almost feels like a pocket Puukko :D The handle looks peculiar, but it's the most versatile and secure handle I've ever gripped. It's very handy for general use, but I'm a bit cautious with the scandi edge. I think I'll soon reshape the egde to a more conservative 20°/25° angle, so that I'd need not worry about it chipping anymore. Our son did his conscript service last year and had my original M95 with him. His mates called it "the light saber" and he was usually tasked with firewood preparation... The other ones were city boys and had little experience with outdoor equipment... I also have Terävä 140 and I very much tried to like it, but it really doesn't compare to Ranger M95 because of blade shape and handle shape. The M95 even feels lighter in the hand due to its balance, while in reality it's heavier than the 140.

Before they released the kydex sheath I had ordered a custom one from Vegvisir Creations and I think its smaller footprint works better than that original kydex sheath. It also came with a ferro rod holder and custom M05 Finnish digital woodland camo which I love. I put a Bladetech Molle-Lok on the back and slipped in between molle rows (behind a 6L Savotta side pouch!) on my Savotta Jääkäri M backpack in the same M05 color, I also got a Fiskars X7 axe on the other side. Magnificent config!!

Just ordered one of these with cerakote coating and a kydex sheath. I wanted a general use knife that was nicer than a mora and not a scandi grind, and that also had some toughness and this is what i found. Cant wait for it to get here.

I picked up a Varusteleka skrama and puukko that are awesome. Same type of knives. The dangler sheaths are really nice.

I have 4 of them. 2 of the first version both M07 and M95 with a bit thicker blade stock but full flat grind and a different carbon steel differential heat treated fully coated and with the leather sheaths. These are not available any more. I got 2 of the newer model your showing both M07 (the shorter version) 1 in coyote fully coated saber grind with the coyote polymer sheath and one uncoated high scandi grind in black with the black polymere sheath. I think they are best compared to the Varusteleka Terävä Jääkäripuukko's (also a Finish brand) also in two sizes and made of the same steel for about the same price depending on sheath options or even without sheath what makes it cheaper of course.These come in a somewhat higher scandi grind. What I like about the Peltonen is the roll lock on the leather and composite sheath. That works fantastic. Very secure but you can just pull it out. With the Varusteleka leather sheath it has a snap button, also very secure but can be a bit hard to undo wearing thick gloves. On the other hand the Varusteleka can scrape a fire steel or scrape of wood although the spine doesn't feel like a sharp spine, It has the protruding stick tang and the rubber handle feels a bit softer and has no texture. They used to make them in stainless steel also but no more. I do wish they made them both in stainless steel options even if it's just AUS8. But for NATO approvement in a more military fashion I understand the choice for the Peltonen. A lot of people only think about cold environments but it's the same in very hot ones. Put your knife out in the blistering sun and grab it with bear hands.

I would definitely get both only because I prefer larger knives. There are times a 4 inch is all I need. I would go Saber grind and kidex.

I bought my M95 (bigger brother) in its awesome leather sheath and full flat grind back in 2006, I think, in Helsinki. The sheath still holds like new after several hiking and hunting trips, coating is fine and it's a good knife overall although a bit too big for my purposes. The steel, though, is a little soft, especially compared to it predecessor Benchmade Nimravus. Different price categories, agree. But the steel softness and length have resulted in the tip bent while trying to pry out an arrow from wood. And so my go to knife since very long has been Fallkniven F1.

It's worth noting they sometimes have sales on these and last May they had a big sale on a double pack with the large and smaller version of the ranger for like $138 together.

You definitely cover all the bases in your reviews, and I appreciate that. What really stands out is how you snarl when shaking a knife in its sheath. I can tell by that snarl just how much stress you're imparting on that sheath. And, if you don't snarl very much, that tells me that the sheath isn't up to the task. :)

Normally range is 40-100 € for shops in EU. 8,60 € shipping cost for under 120 € is higher. The cheapest of these Puukko knife cost 79,90 €. 189,00 € highest price for this Puukko, but man, the one camo pattern kydex sheat (without knife) costs crazy 139,00 €? But the knife looks good. I know this brand for some time . I use an alternative from Finnland , the terävä jääkäripuukko from Varusteleka, its cheaper and uses the same steel. Greetings from Germany

I read a lot of comments talking about Terävä knives here, and I can just agree with the very good quality of their knives (and clothes!). I ordered a jacket there for X-Mas and added a Skrama 80 in the cart. I love its blade shape, the handle offers a marvelous feeling of robustness and comfort, so it seems that it will become my favorite neck knife above the Böker Gekaï (Opus Knives design) and the J&V Chacal Mini.

These are a far superior made and style of Glock Field Knife, which for most is plenty useful for nearly anyone. Seriously good utilitarian knife that gets the work done, especially if you are elbow deep in muck. With the composite sheath keeps it all slim and doesn't take up much room on any belt order. They are repeatable too, so if lost, or lent out never to be returned, then you can get another easily enough which is important for a "combat" knife. No pampering with this knife. I have an original on my battle belt and it has done exactly what was needed. The new production is even better. I prefer the longer version too. Anyhow, they are all the knife anyone really needs for this size and scale, with the performance to match the hardest of use. Plus they cut and easy to maintain. I'm a huge fan.

The competition: Rokka Korpisoturi, Terävä Jääkäripukko, Morakniv Garberg, EKA RTG-1. Maybe the Helle Temagami or the Helle Nord.

I haven't had the chance to work with 80CrV2 before, but I have seen some promising reviews of blades using it. I do like that it is full tang, and the over molded grip with the ribbing looks very functional. I do like feeling like the knife will not shift, or slide when I have to use it either in cold weather, or if it is wet. thanks for the first look at this knife. I will keep my eye on it.

Another great vid! I don't own that particular knife but I own the terava pukko and it is my less expensive knife but is becoming my favorite knife. It may replace my beloved bravo 1 as my favorite. The Finns just know how to make knives. Takecare

There is the M23 Ranger Cub now also, its a neck/scout carry knife. I love mine in coyote brown. Its the sharpest knife out of the box that I ever experienced.

I have the M07 and the M95, both with leather sheatha and sabre grind. The M95 is definitely one of my most used knives. Particularly in the winter as the sheath gives some different carry options. I am not a big fan of belt carry when wearing a big coat. They are very popular here in Finland. Absolutely fabulous knives.

Love your content Aaron. Me and you have very similar taste in knives. Because of you I bought the strong arm and keep it in my hiking and bug out bag. Going to get the bailout next after taxes. I’m stuck between the zt 0006 and the lionsteel t6 also. What do you think? Never mind, I’m going to just get all 3. I like this blade as well, makes the wood look like it’s butter. And I’ve had my eye on that kopisituri since I saw it on one of your videos as well

I have both sizes in the uncoated Scandi with leather sheath. Got them from Lamnia just like you; got them a few months ago after DBK gave them rave reviews. Those Lamnia guys are great, by the way. Decided to get both because I got free shipping! Do not have a lot of field time with either so can’t comment on them much at all. Very surprised to not hear you compare them to the Jakariipuko 110 and 140. Another 80CrV2 stalwart.

I like it but i feel like for military purpose they should have a more pronounced finger guard similar to the cold steel srk. I feel like it would have potential to slip if covered in blood or something

Me personally I wouldn’t want the Teflon coated as it will eventually wear off so why not just stick with coating it yourself when needed

BPS knives sell excellent quality leather sheaths that fit mora style knives well. They would probably fit the two Ranger style knives here. That last knife shown…probably not.

I got the uncoated scandi grind and just carving a cedar notch for a pot hanger caused a large crimp in the edge. I am so pissed because I bought it off of eBay with a crappy return policy.

I've bought 2 pairs (M95+M07) with and without coating on Lamnia (about $160 for the pair). The uncoated version has a secondary micro bevel of about 0.4-0.5 mm, so I think the edge retention should be pretty good. Guys from Dutch Bushcraft Knives have tested the uncoated version with no mercy, and it held up perfectly. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to test my knives outdoors yet, but they've already become my favorite fixed blade knives.

This is probably best knife on the World. Only Terrava knives can compare with Peltonen. It's a shame they don't make the old full flat grind version anymore, but the saber grind is just adequate and the knife has probably gained some durability. It is worth adding that each Peltonen comes with three sheaths to choose from - made of Kydex, composite, with a rubber ring and leather, also with a rubber ring to lock the knife - great.

Like the saber grind but hate coated blades in general. Studies have shown everyone in America has plastics floating around in our blood stream and taking up residence in our cells. No telling what that's doing to us. What is it with these knife makers? Give us a slightly better steel and forget the coatings. Manufacturing costs have to be about the same. Big fan of nicely made pancake style kydex sheaths. The handle looks good, but I still prefer Micarta. Thanks for another insightful review.

I own the m95 and m07 I didn’t go with either the teflon or coated but did go with the cerakoted finish They are good knives and have served their purpose Personally, I wouldn’t with the Kydex The molded I had problems with but the co took care of me ✌️

Have you seen the new Boker Broncho mini? It’s a saber 80CRV2 3.5 inch bladed Puukko that is made in Germany. Still has the full sized handle of its big brother, the Broncho. I think they said it was just over $100 in price. I saw it on the Knife Center new blades of the week for Jan 11, 2024. I’d like your opinions on that too, if it’s in the cards.

To be truthful with you I'm glad you have found the 107 it does not look fancy but it does the lot its reputation in Europe is glowing it hurts a bit that it blows away knifes I have paid 3 and 4 times more peltonen the designer is a special forces guy i have the standard sheath with the little wheel in thats brilliant also don't bother with the kydex you don't need it

First of all that knife is not a scandi grind if I'm listening to you right maybe I'm wrong that's not what you're saying but that's what I heard so maybe I'm hearing it wrong anyways second of all nobody uses a scandi grind for food prep you can but it's not ideal a full flat grind is best for food prep anyways just my two cents love the video keep it up can't wait till the next one

I have one and it is an excellent knife. Mine has the standard sheath but I don't care for the slot as an extra mounting option, kinda cheesy; should have had two slots at least. If you like Mora's you'll love this one.

NATO knife with a NSN = "military grade." Seems okay but likely more expensive than other options like ESEE or Morakniv. IF I were to purchase this, I would do the 6in, teflon w/ Saber grind and Kydex sheath for a battle belt (combat/survival) knife.

I've been looking for a good 80crv2 knife. I think this would be better than the Terra puko.

Why do all the knifes have a black handle? For me the most important tool is the knife so a neon-orange or neon-green handle would be MUCH more practical instead of black TACTI-COOL.

Am I wrong? Doesn't this knife come only in Saber Grind and the picture presented here as a "Scandi", isn't that the same Saber grind knife, just without the full Ceracote coating, the version he uses comes with? I don't see a Scandi on the picrures, they all look the same Saber Grind. Has anybody tried both, to give us some feedback about the differences, especialy on performance?

Kydex for me. I'm lefthanded, so I can easily change molle attachment to my ideal form 😊

Why there is "puukko" in the headline, does the package say that it is "puukko"? It isn't. Puukko is knife with wooden handle. Finnish word puu = tree/wood.

Uncoated magnacut or 3v blade would be better. The Cold steel SRK in 3V or Benchmade pukko come to mind with similar attributes and better steel.

If I was going to have one survival knife. Should I get this one or the srk in San mai?

Hey Aron no doubt you are the best knives reviewers.! But this puuko for rangers? They crazy.. with that shallow finger guard how they going to stab enemies with full strength.. im concerned enemy might died as well as the operator loose their fingers
