Is this £30 UGREEN Capture Card worth it?

I needed an extra capture card, but didn't want to spend a million pounds to get one. So, I picked up this cheap £30 UGREEN CM630 USB C capture card with 4K pass-through. Is it actually any good? Here is my review!

I'm gonna try this thing out. I've been using the Happauge HD PVR 2 for like 10 years and I'm looking to move on to something a little more capable. The Happauge is absolutely brilliant for older systems that use composite and component cables, but it struggles to even produce decent looking footage in 1080p at 30fps. Thanks for making this very informative video! I especially appreciate the way you showed off the latency.

to measure the lag you could put a timer on the screen and take a picture of both at the same time. it will show you the exact ms difference. looks like a cool cheap capture card

Surprisingly this is the one I ordered and it comes today at first cos of some reviews I was doubtful but now I seen this I know not to be worried any more. I’m a small content creator and I stream and I’ve always wanted a capture card so I guess this is a good starter for me

If it’s your first ever capture card, and you’re happy with 1080p… you will be absolutely fine with this. Glad the video could put your mind at ease, and would love to hear how you get on with it down the road!

@MoreGalactic You would just use RU-vid on the computer and use screen capture in OBS to show RU-vid on screen, no need for a capture card to do that.

Seems to be a good choice to replace my Elgato HD60 that died on me (the USB port broke, it has the style that PS3 controllers use for wired connection to the console or how the PSP like models 2000 and 3000 use to connect to the PC or PS3) and to keep my other one that (too cheap but does the job as long as I don't spend too much time because it gets hot too fast) is for more emergency situations like how am I at the moment.

Is there any output delay? Also does it allow you to record/stream at 60fps?

Output delay is very minimal but is there, as it will be in every USB card. I show it later on in the video. And yes it does 1080p 60fps.

did you configured any extra setting to enable 1440p on PS5? On my PS5 i can only see 1080p and 4k? When i tried to select 1440p it says this TV not supported and my monitor is 1440p.

I just did the “test 1440p output” in PS5 settings and it said it was supported and then let me choose 1440p in PS5 options while capturing 1080 on the cap card.

I’m worried that if I can explain it right, so the capture card does 60fps and the 1080 graphics, does this mean it lowers my own side off stream also or does that stay set?

Hmm… How can I explain in a comment haha. The pass through is where the signal goes in and out of the capture card to your monitor, this is generally unchanged but does have some restrictions. While passing through the card captures that image and sends it by the usb to the pc so you can stream or record it, that is limited to 1080/60.

If you can convert your phone to an HDMI output then it will work as long as there’s no HDCP.

Does the passthrough support HDR? Most capture cards don't allow HDR to passthrough, and i'm looking for one that i can afford that does.

Nope! It does not. There is ZERO HDR.

Depends on the resolution. Will only do 60hz passthrough at 4k.

I have it and I'm trying to configure it in obs with my Nintendo Switch, but when I select it, it remains within black borders, no matter how much I press fit to screen and so on, it's not complete, do you know what it could be? (I have it at 1080 60pfs)

Make sure your OBS base canvas is also 1080 maybe? Where are the black borders? All around?

@@Banproof Yes, in all the video settings, output and so on, it is 1920x1080 60pfs, and yes, the borders are everywhere, I had to manually edit the dimensions so that it went full screen, so that it does not have borders I had to set it to 1979x1122, no I know it can be

You don’t have to use the pass through, you can just capture from it if you want from USB. There’ll be small delay on image though.

So long as they are HDMI and don’t have HDCP should be absolutely fine. If they work with other capture cards they will work with this one.

The game from the phone does not reach the computer. NO Signal. It shows that the phone cable is connected to the IN computer OUT. It shows NO signal. What should I do?

Have you got the USB connected and what software are you using? The out should be connected to a monitor of some kind and the usb to the computer.

If you want to capture something you need to connect your phone by HDMI to the input, and then connect the USB to a computer, then use some sort of capture software such as OBS to view it on the computer. You can then connect the output to a monitor or TV to have a lag-free pass-through.

If you’re trying to play through the monitor will always be a degree of input lag. It’s minimal on this, later in the video I show the delay between the pass through and the preview.

Depends how much you care about the delay. I wouldn’t want to play anything competitive on it.

I followed the same steps as you suggest, and it’s working. But the quality is really sad. My goal is to not record but just stream live in Facebook live, im using my laptop for streaming but still the quality I’m getting is 40 fps. I’ll be fine even if I get 1080p with 60 fps, can you suggest me ? (Laptop specs i7 11th gen,16Gb ram, gtx1650, 512ssd I think this is enough for streaming) and my internet upload speed is plus 10mbps

And are you seeing bad quality in OBS or on your actual stream? What encoding settings are you using? There’s a million different options that could cause the stream quality to look bad.

I’m not sure exactly what you are asking? You should be able to capture a screen mirror with the appropriate HDMI adapter, if you just want to save photos to a computer from iPad there’s no need for a capture card.

Ah yeah that should work with any capture card if you have an HDMI adapter, don’t have an iPad here to be able to test it though. I have, however captured my iPhone in OBS wirelessly using an app called AirServer. This allowed me to AirPlay my screen to the PC and use window capture to pull it into OBS. This would work for iPad too and would remove any need for capture card or cables.

@funkanic06 Unless you can find a capture card that captures in 300fps you won’t get any benefit any way as it will only display up to 60fps through USB, and PlayStation will only very rarely give much more than 60fps, at most I believe it does 120 in certain games.

@@Banproof Heavy games will cause stuttering when recording using screen capture software. I only have an RTX 3060 which is not powerful enough. Thanks for your reply.

Capture card won’t help this. The stuttering is not from the capture but from the resources used to encode the recording. Recording from capture card whilst playing on same machine will result in just as much resource usage.
