Is this 2018 DUCATI SuperSport S Beginner Friendly? 

This was my first ride in one. Man does it have a character. I want a 916 or 998. And if it feels slightly resembling this bike. I know I’ll love it.

Lmfao a 300 to the absolute max lmfao. Listen bro you have been riding for 2 years you know how to handle a bike I’d assume. This being said you can ride anything. You will not be ready for the power as you have never experienced it. Your first time in a fast bike no matter how long you have been riding will be your first time in a fast bike (if that makes sense). Your heart will race the speed will catch you off guard as your mind doesn’t yet understand what to prepare for or know the feeling. It will be exciting and there is nothing like your first time. Enjoy it seriously. You will be fine if you do 2 things. Understand the throttle is a lot and I mean a lot. More sensitive. You have to use 4-10% at most compared to your 300%. Which is like 80-100%. That will be the hardest thing to get used to. Secondly. A trick I always use when on a fast bike. Shift early and stay in a high gear it will allow for more throttling play so instead of riding 2-3-4 in most city rides. Lug it a little and stay 4-5-6. Once you get comfortable in high gears and se dative the throttle is. Then use smaller gears. You will be fine bro. Enjoy the shit out of it. There will be no other experience like the first time you step up to a fast bike. Until you step up to a faster one hahahaha. Best of luck my guy !! Haha nice I have a vfr 1200 as well. It’s completely different experience for sure ! It has a lot more “character” (Ducati) you will loose the butter smooth of the vfr but gain some feel and very interesting power delivery. If you have a vfr 800 they will be similarly powered with the duc having more torque. It will however feel smaller in the seat. Not sure if your size but I jumped off the r1 and onto this but after about 15-20 min of riding it was not as pronounced. I think you will enjoy it and the difference in ergos and power delivery will be a nice experience. It’s awesome to see how different bikes can be. Hope you enjoy it man this bike will handle more more sporty while being more upright(slightly)

@@NostalgicMotorcycles Throttle is very sluggish, its around 480lbs wet, bike feels broken below 4k rpm and your thighs will burn on a day over 75 degrees F. It's literally the worst bike I've owned (I've owned R6, Street Triple, F850GS, Vitpilen 401, ZX6R). I literally bought it because I can say "I own a ducati" and all the ohlins and aluminum parts are super pleasing to look at but regret it every day when I ride it lol. It's basically the old monster with fairings slapped on so if you like the "old school ducati" feel it definitely has that with the trellis frame, testastretta engine and what not. Also it's their most reliable engine so those are the perks but for this money you can get way better bikes.

Interesting. I don’t agree with most of that. It simply sounds to me like it’s not your style of riding which is fair. Twins do feel different than in-line 4. The description of broken is not accurate it is for sure less smooth than a 4cyl but it’s a twin thing. It’s for sure not sluggish at the bottom end no torque bias engine is. And honestly it’s not that hot but compared to fully faired Japanese sport bikes it is hotter. All a matter of perspective. If your ideal bike a Japanese in-line 4 then yes this bike is far from that. But as you stated. You bought the brand not the bike 🤷🏽‍♂️. I enjoy motorcycles for what they are and I don’t try and judge a bike in comparison to what it’s not. Bike is solid well put together and as a twin it has low speed torque and power actually carries a lot more than expected for a high torque twin.

Yessir it was a fun ride honestly. I enjoyed myself on this one.

I will be making a video about this exact topic. But understand yourself. Are you an adult with “car” on road experience. That makes you less of a beginner as your not learning traffic and just the bike. Have you ridden something on 2 wheels. Dirt bike electric bike ect. That makes you less of a beginner. Are you scared or timid as a human that makes you more of a beginner. Are the type of person that will want to go pedal to the metal as fast as possible. That will make you more likely to pull a stupid get a slower bike. Are you comfortable going slow and taking your time. You can responsibly handle a faster bike. Think about all this and self assess. If you assess wrong you will die so don’t be stupid about it. Be honest with yourself. The reason I started with a 750 v4 cruise was because I knew I needed something slower than a sport bike because I would push it yet it’s a fast cruiser because I knew a slow bike is not for me and I can handle myself at relative speed and gain control of the bike easily. I take to mechanical shit quickly. I feel that way about boats planes care. Give me something with an engine and a way to steer I may not be perfect but I’ll figure it out fast. So I’m not the person that needs to get a 250. I rode a dirt bike and it took me 20 min to be ripping it around full throttle. Only you have the answer.

I would say these are both a bit fast for a brand brand new rider but the Ducati is a little cramped for someone 6’3”.

@@NostalgicMotorcyclesI agree. I don’t think that Ducatis make great beginner bikes and I’ve been riding them for 40 years. A bit quirky and you need to slip the clutch a fair bit. And no Ducati likes been ridden slowly. A Honda it is not.

I agree. But this one isn’t really that bad. Not a young 16 year old new rider but a more mature 25+ new rider what know how to drive. For sure can start in this given they are confident in the ability to learn and have self control. Not everyone but someone can forbsure

@@NostalgicMotorcycles People should do what they want. I learnt on a Honda CD175 from 1972 (it was 10 years old when I got it) and was like a sewing machine. I had it for a couple of years. I then had a Honda 400 twin which felt like a real bike. I had that for another couple of years. My third bike was my first Ducati - a secondhand 500 Pantah. I had that for 5 years until I got my first new and big bike, a Ducati 906. These days people expect to buy big and new straight away. I’m not sure that’s the best way to learn what can be a dangerous (I fell off plenty of times) and expensive hobby. But in the 80s we were poor. We wouldn’t have been able to afford $1000 iPhones either. My advice, a 939SS does not make a good first bike. You’d be better off with a smallish Monster if you had to have a Ducati.

Dam man that’s a long journey I. 2 wheels. I myself started on a 95 magna. Awesome first bike. Heavy 75hp like 50 tq apparently way more power than ppl recommend. Then I jumped in my vfr1200f as a second bike 170 hp !!
