Coravin seems to be the gold standard. I purchased the SL for $100. A deal I found on a big box store. I got it a few days ago and love it. I love wine but have stopped purchasing bottles because I ended up throwing away half of the bottle. Because of this, I avoided buying higher quality wines because I did not want to throw away half of a $50 bottle. Now I can be more adventurous and even considering purchasing $100 bottles.

Humor after preserving sixty-two bottles opened onsite: I tried to preserve the bottles with methane, without any side taste on the bottle! Only concern during the process is to clean the bottle neck outside from the residues coming from the filling tube of the ecologigal methane creator called "Fartovin".

I've used a variation of the vacuum system you mention for many years, and feel it easily keeps wine alive (usually around a half bottle that I cant finish) from Saturday/Sunday to the coming Friday when stored in the fridge - so i was surprised to hear that you only get a few days out of yours! I have actually never had to throw wine away but granted, it's not the same experience as when first opened, but not worse as such - just different.

I have a Coravin 6 and would hope not to buy another Coravin soon if i can find something less expensive (especially considering i dont drink sparkling as often, but that also means i need something good as some would be sitting). Still sticking with Coravin. I've had mine over 9 years, since they first came out. Not thrilled about the idea of opening the bottle and sticking latex into the wine. I can't believe that latex wonlt change the wine, or will not break down. Also, with Coravin, one unit will allow you to sample many different wines (yes - you have to replece the cartridges), whereas this thing is good for one bottle only, until you finish that bottle. I use Coravin for mostly dessert and port eines, and the Everwine won't work in those 375 mL bottles. I will have a glass of one port or dessert one night, and different ones on other nights. Coravin is perfect. But the concept is the same for 750mL bottles - Everwine can only be used in one bottle, until that bottle is gone. Or, you are having to buy a bunch of Everwines.
@drmatthewhorkey
@drmatthewhorkey 2 года назад
You and me are pretty fantatical wine people hahaha. I think this is a great choice for casual consumers to have one or two around to enjoy nice, yet easy going wines. As for the more expensive wines... well I highlighted that in the video for those who didn't watch yet hahah

@@drmatthewhorkey I agree. For middle range wine ($30-$40) I may get an Everwine. Coravin for more expensive ones so as to save the argon gas Just ordered one to try after watching your video. Great recommendation!

I haven't looked up any research on the balloon materials vs. the condition of the wine subject. I don't have any knowledge of the materials used so far and any chemical reactions/leaching, but perhaps it does or doesn't exist. My intuition tells me that there WOULD be some sort of difference, but you'd be surprised about how our intuition could be blown away by rigorous science. I do have a Coravin and love it, but if I find info on the abilities of the balloon, I may add it to my wineo tool belt.

Perhaps using Everwine to complement Coravin is a way to use less argon and reduce costs. Use Coravin for the 1st half of the bottle. Once half empty, switch to the Everwine to avoid filling too much empty space with gas.

Matt, curious of your thoughts of using Everwine vs Coravin Pivot for a high-end BTG pour at a restaurant. I like the concept but this seems a bit fussy to use and I'm wondering if a busy staff would find it more annoying than useful. The Pivot is working well (better than needle system for speed and ease) so just curious. Appreciate the feedback and hope you're well!

The main drawback on the Everwine is that you have to keep it on the bottle as a replacement for the cork...so you can only be preserving 1 bottle at a time, whereas the Coravin you remove it and the cork reseals and you can do this to endless bottles. Still pretty cool though. I'll just use the typical pump and finish the bottle within a day or two.
