Contractor from the East Coast bro and flawless stuff every time. Seeing your work every time reminds one got into this line of work and just why I love doing shower remodels period because I truly believe this type of work is an art.
Nice job, I'm tiling two of these inserts today but have to use stainless flat edge trims around the edges as the tiles are cheap ceramic . It's a much better look with a mitre for sure and it won't date in time... Thanks for sharing 🙂
I have only seen those tile niche in foreign hotels. They look real cool when done well. I believe the bathroom is either the most or least important room in a dwelling. There is no in between.
I love the look but I rarely have finished tile on all 4 sides of my niches to do so as I build customs sizes and nobody ever wants them thats small here. Lol. The risk/reward method is so worth it if you can pull it off without chipping an edge before grout! Great work as always!
It’s a clean look. Haven’t done it in awhile but on my next build with a niche I’m going to try and sell the customer on it. Not seeing as many niches lately though. Designers are going for the schluter corner and linear shelves
Designers...smh...in my opinion niches will never go out of style because most people would rather have recessed shelving than a protruding shelf just for the space. The main thing is cost. With inflation and everyone tightening their budgets i can see how a homeowner would opt out of spending $500 plus on a niche when they could just add a $30 corner shelf that doesnt require much labor cost.
A Mattson, makes sense and I totally agree with you. We pitch return on investment on home value. A beautiful niche is much more desirable than shelves in a shower.
@@LandbergTileTV smart selling strategy on return on investment. A nicely made niche is often the highlight of the whole shower so the upcharge is justified in my mind. They are pricey but some people dont understand the extra labor/time involved in having a niche to construct, layout, waterproof, tile, grout...not to mention the liability involved in sometimes altering the framing structure.
What's up with that flex when you pressed the back wall of the niches tile in? Is that the Decoupling mat flexing like that? It looked like the wall flexing in. Is that going to continue to do that after the thin set and grout cure?
I thought you liked a 7" blade for mitering because it's less flexible. Is that new RTC blade the reason you're able to use the 10" DeWalt saw? I'm sure the clearance on the left side of the blade on that saw is nice too!
When you miter porcelain or ceramic, you cut below the "glaze" not on the glaze. This takes experience and skill. I would recommend Schluter Jolly trim and miter at all 4 corners.
Awesome video as always sir. When you were using the diamond pad were you trying to correct the imperfections in the bevel or were you trying to bevel beyond 45°. I have had issues trying to keep the grout joint uniform in the past. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us please keep the videos coming sir. “FLIP”
I all the years I've been watching you guys Liggy Liggy Landberg I don't think I've ever asked which you prefer. Mitered & Schluter trim niches? Just curious. Hoping all is well guys, Dirty Jersey out!!!!
I saw you use a battery grinder to polish miter edge. I have problems using battery grinder with my polishing pads . I have to pull out the makita variable grinder out. What am I doing wrong. Is it the type of grinder . I think that's awesome you use a battery grinder with pads. I have to use the variable speed grinder. Battery grinder goes to fast for me to polish with pads . What I'm a doing wrong
Does the ledge tile and upper tile in niche get cut 1/4" less than the total width of opening? Doo you nibble the front corners of those mitered cuts to accommodate the two inner side miters?@@LandbergTileTV
Wow. I don’t know of a cleaner look for a niche. Do u flood test your pans before tiling?? And you should play the RU-vid music score during your actual work! Also, For the ultimate in waterproofing, would you ever apply hydro ban or red guard over the entire Kerdi membrane and up the walls 6 inches so it will like never leak? Even tho u may not have leaks now with Schluter, would u even consider it??? Thanks.
Thanks Dave! We flood test sometimes, never use a topical membrane on our Schluter showers and always provide a guarantee for our builds. We are extremely confident on each and every build and will always tear out our own showers if they fail. Laticrete will be our go to showers systems very soon
