I’m not sure how many years I’ve been watching your journey, but I’m still enjoying it like it’s the first. You’re such a pleasant, interesting and intelligent couple… plus your British accents continue to play like music. 😁
Another brilliant video! You're skills as videographers has just gotten better and better! You make it feel like we're all along for the ride! Cheers and safe sailing!
Always a pleasure to watch you guys with Florence. I love how you guys take care of each other. She seems so steady and sure regardless of where shes pointed. You guys are great, i do enjoy watching!
Love you 2…. Thanks for the inspiration!!! My wife and I are starting the 2nd year of our international sailboat journey this month… Thanks for the great vids!!!
I did that exact trip last May, as crew. We managed to get through ok although boats much bigger and smaller than ours got beat up badly leaving just before or just after us (one was dismasted, another suffered a broken boom in the middle and others blew out sails) so your words about the weather in the North Atlantic weren't lost on me. We only lost a spinnaker halyard and had to struggle a bit to get it out of the water at nearly 10 knots boat speed and then back into the boat and then go up the mast to install a new halyard. We did chicken out and kept close to the Azores High to the south and let much of the bigger lows pass us by to the North including the remnants of Tropical Storm Alex. It meant we had a 500 mile tack north, which wasn't much fun watching our distance to target not move for two days but we made good time and got there in 17 days overall. Some of those waves were monstrous and like you we saw multiple boats together a couple of times in the middle of nowhere. Watching you leave St. George's harbour brought back all of the memories as we did the exact same heading. We started running into whales and dolphins as we approached the Azores so I'm keen to see your next video. Fair winds!
I plan on doing the same passage in another year. Read about Alex and was wondering how many boats got caught up in that, offshore. I am hoping that if we undertake the trip earlier in the season, such as May or June, the risk conditions should be a little easier. Reasonable conclusion?
You guys are amazing! Your skill, confidence & ability to challenge yourselves against some of the strongest and most unpredictable of nature's forces is unbridled. Add to that the quality of your camera work and film editing makes you quite exceptional mariners. Been subscribed for a while now. HUGE respect to you both. 👏👏
One of the best sailing channels, for sure, if not the best. Going to miss you once you reach the end and hope your next adventure is not too long in the waiting.
I follow a lot of yachting vlogs but Matt and Amy's vlogs are the best, both your narration have been excellent from day one, I'm a Kiwi following Brit cousins lol call me biased.
Another great episode, so beautifully filmed and edited, thank you! Being able to slab reef from the cockpit does make it a lot easier and safer and sure beats hanging onto the boom and lashing down a reef, thanks for showing us the operation.
Those kind of passage distances with 2 people are amazing to me. I've done 100s-1,000s of miles but typically 6 or more crew. And even that feels challenging.
I want to thank you for a wonderful journey and adventure you have shared with us. Your channel and SV Zatara are my favorite channels. No cursing, no naked butt shots or using a thumbnail of a scantily dresses female. Just good clean adventure with top quality videos. It’s been a pleasure and a joy to follow along. I am on a tight budget or I would be a patron. So the best I can do to support you both is comment and share your videos. I look forward to seeing what comes next, I don’t imagine your feet on dry land long, maybe some Arctic sailing??? It will be nice for you to see family and friends again I am sure. Again, thank you for sharing your world with us. You have become a fixture in my world. Strangers that feel like family! Keep being you, your awesome!
Another mesmerising and inspiring video. When you are home in the UK you must explore approaching the appropriate media to convert your wonderful story into a documentary or series. I will be so sad when it’s over and can’t wait until your head off to the North after your well-earned rest and refurbishment. I have followed you from the start and have absolutely loved every episode. Beautiful story, beautiful couple and beautiful boat. Truly beautiful. Thank you from Blairgowrie, Victoria, Australia.
I watch with little apprehensive attention at your mid-atlantic adventure. As I have seen others on the Northern route suffer quite a different tale on their Sept. crossing. You however have proven skills the Azores, The Sea of Biscayne, finally Plymouth. May God Be With You!
Greetings. My name is Vince. I have never sailed and yet have dreamed of ocean sailing for many years. Your films only heighten my desire to take the plunge, if you can forgive the pun, and join a sailing club before committing myself to even sailing across the English Channel to France. Thank you for your inspiration and sharing the minutiae and opening my eyes to what I must learn. Kindest regards.
Hey guys… pop by Canada on your way home…. Halifax has one of the handful of Royal Yacht squadrons…. It’s also the city where all the convoys were staged to England during WWII…. You’d love it….
I'm new to this channel and enjoyed it.. I'm from Cape Town South Africa... hopefully soon I will have my owne boat... I have sailed dinghys never a big boat.. you said you had those covers made in SA.. we have of the best sail maker's boat builders in the world... I myself work in dry dock doing ship repair.. love it..
I wonder if you look forward to returning to Britain again like I did many years ago? I didn’t look forward to it at all! That was in the 1970s via the Union Castle line from Durban. A wee lad. We did it four times to Southampton. Wish we didn’t bother - as we couldn’t hack Britain again at all. I sense it is in a worst state now than it was then. A great shame! However, I could say the same about most western (once democratic) countries. Defend. Never surrender! The bad ‘uns have us by the bxxxs!
Got to be gonest, I really Do Not Like the North Atlantic West to East Crossing via the Azores at all. Never Have either. I don't know if I'm a Reincarnated Old School Trader under Sail round to Chile or Peru or Something, but I much prefer Northern Argentina then up to Cape Verde from there, biggest danger, getting Becalmed for weeks and running out of Water while waiting for Wind . With a Watermaker and lots of Diesel to pootle along with, no problem. 🤔
I've said it so many times no other channel gets you more involved in a Ocean crossing than you two ! It's my favourite episodes when you two are actually doing distance.
I've never sailed the globe.... I've never sailed ... at least until now !!!, Wow , I don't think there has ever been such a series of world travel videos, that has allowed me to vicariously circumnavigate the world as I have done with both of you... thank you, for your individual skillsets that together make you both a real team, a complete unit. I look forward to Portsmouth Harbour,
It has always amazed me how the camera does not capture the sea state or boat movement. Many years ago when I was young and keen I took my Contessa 26 from the UK to the Med. Pre digital camara days but I took rolls of film of some very lumpy weather in the Mddle of Biscay. Back home weeks later after leaving my little boat in the safe confines of Mahon Harbour I was so disppointed. My stories of mountainous seas and violent movement fell on deaf ears. Yeah, yeah, doesn't look that bad to was the common attitude. In my seventies now and almost retired from sailing, just the odd day sail with friends, I envy and admire you both. I still dream of crossing an ocean but sadly it will only ever be a dream now. Bon Voyage🙃. Bet the camera did not catch that one.
Those are some impressive seas. I like to think that my hind-brain can do geometry and realize some what they would look like up close and personal - and that is very impressive. Intimidating.. Humbling.
Wow guys what a fantastic video great camera work so professionally done , it's great to know your on your way back home but I know it won't be for long that travel bug is in your veins. Amy that a partner I wouldn't charge for the world her know is on point what a team be safe guy's until yall get back 🤙🏾
Been following you guys for a few years and am just so impressed to see how your videos have just got better and better, they are so professional, brilliantly put together and edited, absolutely fabulous! Love it!
My favorite sail ever was from the Carabian to the Azores. We went fast and never a dull moment. Then to find out the Azores are like Yellowstone Park in the middle of the ocean.
Of all the cruising couple's on RU-vid, I think you two deserve the blue water cruising medal, like Lin and Larry Pardey were awarded. I say that because, as I sit here on my 25 ton 50 ft steel schooner, I can't even imagine the places you have conquered on 37 ft. The only major difference was that the Pardey's were engineless. In addition, you have not used extra crew, as most of the other cruising couples have. I acknowledge that some of the others have travelled farther and been cruising longer. Travel safely, and enjoy my favorite, a Yorkshire bitters upon arrival. Sincere regards, Billy
Thank you for this very nice and exciting video...am curious to the nex part. Fair winds and following seas...or as we say "behouden vaar!!"..until reaching closest part of Europe🎉
You two work so well together on Florence, it would be great to see semi tutorials showing the roles you do individually, but as a team working on her. Many thanks - the best sailing channel on RU-vid. Hope to be at you homecoming too.
And yes it's the same here in the upper northeast of the States. She's cold water no matter what time if year . Be safe and thanks for this video. Angus SV Violet Walters
Matt/Amy- you’ll be hard pressed to find someone that watches more sailing/boating RU-vid channels than me. I mentioned to you once you’re among the top cinematographers in boating RU-vid channels. For me, I’m very comfortable rating you #1 for videography, cinematography, and editing amongst all boating channels. If you ever hang up sailing (I hope you don’t) you should start a digital media company. You have a tremendous portfolio and truly talented in digital storytelling. Cheers from Ed in Canada.
