The Veloster N is than a GTI, Golf R or Civic Type R, but packs a mighty punch with a specially tuned 2.0L turbo engine, a torque vectoring front axle and your choice of a 6-speed manual or a new 8-speed dual clutch transmission. Well done! When we were looking for a second car, the Veloster N was on our shortlist next to the Honda Civic Type R. I literally talked to the Hyundai dealer and Honda dealer on the phone on the same day. We could not find a Veloster N in blue in our area but we did find a new Honda Civic Type R at MSRP. We quickly snagged that car and never looked back. My wife and I LOVE that car! Word to the wise, if any of these cars on sale interest you, especially if they have a manual, find a way to get one more sooner than later. All electric cars a automatics in practice but you will never be able to get that driver's involvement you find in a good 6-speed manual.

Bought a 2022 DCT this week, and it's amazing. Constant complements. I'm 6'0 210lbs, and I'm very comfortable. My 5'4 110lb 12 year old doesnt loveeee the rear seats (compared to my old WRX or Civic, or her mom's Mazda 3). The "B" pillar blind spot is a significant difference between the aforementioned cars. The rearview mirror is dainty, or at least the view due to the tiny window in the back. But then again, I rarely need to know who is behind me because they rarely catch up.

I want one of these so badly ! I’m gearing up to buy a car after having been in a car accident back in January that totaled my car(other driver was found 100% at fault and I do have an attorney) and gosh, this car has had my heart since it was announced. I love the performance blue but all black is what I’m set on :)

Great reviww as always, Alex! Thinking that the Elantra N might be the more "mature", less boy-racer choice. The lower level Veloster models, has been discontinue for the US market, with only the Veloster N remaining for sale. Of course, the Kona N is another option.

I'm 6'2" and fit great. Now have 4200 miles on my 2021 Veloster n, DCT and the seats seemed to fit me perfect now Maybe I wore them in?

Yeah, they finally gave up and stretched around your big ass. Lol. Seriously though I'm about the same size. The bottom bolsters don't squish you. I drive a long commute. Thanks.

I have put 30k miles on my 2020, absolutely love it. I have never heard anyone complain about the seats, I love them! If anyone has questions for someone who’s daily driven this car for a long time, lemme know!

I have a manual 2019 in chalk and performance pack. My daughter makes fun of my periwinkle seat belts 🤣🤣. I bought mine New and it is a blast, but also gets great gas mileage on my 25 mile one way commute to work, I've averaged over 30mpg in custom mode with full on power and noise. Even if a dct had been available in 2019 I would have still purchased the manual, it's not a drag race for me, I wanted a car that harkened back to the days that I learned to drive in the 80s. My car does exactly what I tell it to and it eats it up!

Here's to hoping the Elantra N addresses the shortcomings of the Veloster N (cramped cabin, cheap interior touches) while not pushing the price up to Type R or Golf R levels.

@@duncanmclellan5479 I’ll get rid of my unreliable BMW, get Elantra N and wrap it in a color I want. I’ll add a big ass wing and front splitter like the race car version, add N-performance bits, and tune it and go tracking almost every weekend. The cost of doing this will still be well below what I paid for my BMW. Incredible what Hyundai has done.

I’m driving a Sonata N Line currently (family friendly, quickish, and I’m intrigued by the 2.5T) but could make the jump to Elantra N if the interior is not dime store cheap. Don’t need Lexus, but a step up from Veloster. But to your point, they are good at spending money where they should and going cheap where they should. Truly impressed.

@@duncanmclellan5479 I used to think you had to get a European car (ie, BMW) to have fun. I was wrong. I test drove the Stinger and G70 and thoroughly impressed. But I want a cheaper reliable car that I can toss around without having to worry about expensive repair bills. The Elantra N is perfect for that. Good luck with your purchase!

I bought the DCT because it is quicker for track and autocross use. Also, I can't moneyshift it. A couple comments on your review. 1. The new seats are LESS comfortable than the older ones. They have less padding but they have more bolstering and are better for track use. 2. The Pirelli PZeros are rubbish. Fine for everyday driving but woeful on the track. Interesting to note that the new Elantra N is coming with the Michelin PS4S which the Veloster N should have had. 3. The DCT version comes with 1.7 degrees of negative camber up front (as opposed to .7 degrees for the manual) due to the extra weight of the transmission. This is a huge benefit for those of us that track them as the front camber is non-adjustable. A huge oversight if you ask me. It is way quicker and faster than the VW GTI, not even close. If you are only looking for a daily driver then the GTI is more comfortable if you can live with those haptic piano black buttons used for everything. I couldn't. It is not as good as the R or Type R for track use but at 75% of the cost of those, it is a much better "value".

A fine review that I've learned to expect from Alex. I'm certain I would enjoy the Veloster N. Rationally, the DCT is the choice, but I'm an old fart who would probably choose the manual. For me, a manual, especially with rev matching, is an automatic transmission.

In the size section, there's no real reason to differentiate between the GTI and R. A golf is a golf. I also completely agree about dcts and how we need more of them.

Not quite periwinkle, that colour is more leaning towards the powder blue spectrum. Periwinkle has a more pronounced purple-ish hue to it. Pretty cool hatch. I've been a fan since gen 1. Hopefully it gets awd and the +300 lb-ft torque four banger on newer Hyundai/KIA cars on the next gen redo.

Please review the 2022 Genesis G70. And what are your thoughts on its competitors: price-wise: BMW 330, Merc c300, and performance-wise: m340i and c43. I'm seriously considering between these options for my first performance sedan (or ish as in 330 and c300s' case).

@David Jung Summed up well David. I'd say that the G70 fits in between the C and the 3 though in both comfort and dynamics. The S4 is a bit of an outlier here because the front end is so heavy and the A4 is actually based on a fwd architecture and the others are not. To be honest though, I love all these cars!

I think the Jetta GLI could be viewed as a competitor to Veloster N, but when I looked at AOA's scores between the two, I find their "Ride" and "Fuel Economy" scores quite odd; how can the Veloster N ride better than Jetta GLI? And get the same fuel economy score as GLI despite 4mpg worst?

By default, the Veloster is my choice. DCT versus manual. Yes I know how to drive a manual. But it no longer is a good choice because I'm disabled. I used to drive tractor trailer with 9, 10, 13 speed manual transmission. Hot hatch isn't me anymore really.

Yeah it is a bit overstyled sort of speak but most of the reviews I've watched on the Type R say it's an incredible performance and handling for a front wheel drive car and it has more HP than the Veloster N but i think if I had the choice I would get the Veloster because I think it looks much better plus Hyundai has the best factory warranty in the car business

FYI the Veloster N is a compact car not a subcompact car. You'll love a dual clutch in a traffic jam, especially driving up an incline where people will think a monkey is driving the car as the gear change from neutral to first gear will be awful and you can't do much about it.

Honestly, if you look at the new Kona N as a hatch because it doesn't have AWD or much more ground clearance compared with sedans or hatches, then the Veloster N makes less sense because it's way less practical. than the Kona N, lower step-in position, less headroom, less cargo room, and one less rear door. If you insist on considering the Kona N to be an SUV because that's what Hyundai says it is and because the other versions of the Kona have AWD, then they don't compete.

We're not getting enough DCTs because of fan boys on RU-vid that can't even afford most of these cars ranting on about "MANUAL TRANSMISSION!!!" yet barely any of them will buy a manual transmission. Keep in mind that manufacturers only discontinue something because not enough people purchase it for them to make a profit from. So stop whining and get on the DCT wagon!

@@deniscdyck The reason why they’re only made with manuals is simple: Honda’s only other transmission that will fit into the Civic is a CVT and that one won’t hold up to that use. If Honda had a DCT, or even an automatic they could use, they would have. The take on DCTs with GTI and Golf R is huge.

I mean... the Accord smokes pretty much everything on the road even stuff above its class with that transmission and the same type-r engine (slightly detunned), but hey... it wouldn't be able to handle the Si or Type-R. Yeah right... Nah, it's a driving dynamics decision to keep the cars special.

Drove both the DCT and manual version of the Belonged N. Much prefer the engagement of the manual and the suspension rides better than the DCT with higher spring rates. Alex again touting the DCT as the end all be all males sense for someone who isn't an enthusiast or lazy. DCT is only faster with launch control, not in the street/real world

did u know that a long time ago there once was a young hot wing he was a very nice hot wing except he wanted to he tomato's not just normal tamato's but tomato's from a clowns nose. he had to have the clowns nose's for every meal but they had to be used. this hot wing ended up as a model in the 1780's. he turned out nice and red with hot sauce. one day at a modeling show a guy decided to go up on stage and take a big juicy bite out of the hot wing. the hot wing cried and cried for a million years because he could no longer be a model. after he cried forever he was very moldy so he started to cry again. after that the little moldy parts came of of him and became SERGEANTS they stictiched up the hotwings whole. by now the young hot wing is a very old BUT HE STILL COMPLETED HIS MODELING CAREER. after the SERGEANT'S fixed up the hot wing they got a hotdog and ate it.

@@janoycresnova9156yeah so what better interiors, better built quality and can daily drive with comfort. I have a 2017 and they are so much more practical adults can use back. Have a stage 2 and bolt on hardware crazy fast with DSG. Those turbo cars don't last from Korea.

@@ShanerHulk Except the very old 2L turbo they used to put in the Santa Fe, Korean turbos have proven to be relatively problem free. The Golf R is unquestionably a better car for all of the reasons you mentioned. Problem is, when you're spending mid 40's for a hatchback, you start to look at what else you can get for that money. Lots of nice choices at that price.

Hot hatches are cars one buys to have fun in. Why would someone even consider any form of an automatic transmission? Darn 0-60 bs trend... lower 0-60 with an auto doesn't mean it's more fun. It means the opposite. It means you have no input and the cpu does everything. You in essence are just a passenger pressing a pedal on the floor.

Lots of us live in big cities with lots of traffic. We can't be twitching around like cavemen shifting gears for hours stuck in traffic. Automatic is just a lot better for daily driving, more efficient and faster.

I've had 2 hyundai's both garbage didn't last 100k and I am a stickler for maintenance. Saturn did the 3 door route first.

There are tracks available to rent or drive on. These cars are entry level platforms for that hobbie.

"Why is there still so much emphasis on speeding?" -- No one is speeding here. This is about having fun _while_ driving safely. You can be speeding in a barge on a flat open road, and be bored to death, and you can have fun driving 35 on a twisty mountain road, and be perfectly safe.

@@mountainhobo where did Alex emphasis speeding? He is the most neutral reviewer out there. If the car has a zero-60 time of 4.9 seconds that means it's fast. The freeway where I live has a 70 mph limit. He is making your point. The car is fun to drive without speeding. Just like you described. You need to head over to some golf cart review channels.
