I've heard Bad Company recommended occasionally over and over, and a couple of my patrons have been begging for a while. This has been on my list, but it never really rose up to the top - until my hubby just prepped it and said "it's time." So. It's time to spend some time with Bad Company listening to "Bad Company"!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Bad Company for the first time, performing "Bad Company”.

That's not entirely accurate. Among other musicians of his time, he was considered the best. There's a reason why Jimmy Page wanted to do The Firm with him, and he was the choice of Queen to replace Freddy.

I saw him perform just a couple years ago and, as a man in his early 70's, he still was spot on to the sound of the recordings. I was amazed! I've come to expect the singers that I grew up listening to in the 60's and 70's to, understandably, not sound quite like what they did back then and even drop the music a key or two to still be able to perform those songs. However, Paul absolutely defied all logic of aging. If any key changes were made, it was not apparent. Awesome, awesome performance!

I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Paul live in 2007, and after my father and I went to buy some merchandise, Paul's wife (who was running the merch table!) invited us backstage after the concert to meet him. Aside from having perhaps the most beautiful voice I've ever heard, Paul is a humble, down to earth man, with a beautiful soul. I will forever remember the way he spoke with 13-year-old me and made me feel special even in just a couple minutes backstage at one of thousands of concerts he's done. The Voice is one of the best human beings in the business.

Bad Company was always on the radio and charts, They were a mid 1970's staple band. They must have dozens of hit songs. People forget Bad Company was a super-group Paul and Simon Kirke from Free, Mick Ralphs from Mott the Hoople and Boz Burrell from King Crimson. They were managed by Peter Grant - Led Zep's manager.

Paul Rogers was known in the industry as "The Voice" (yes, long before the television show ever existed). I read an interview with Jimmy Page (who worked with Paul in The Firm) and he said Paul was such a precise singer that he believes that if you took one of Paul's takes and laid it over another take the two would line up perfectly. When he knows how he wants to sing something, he sings it that way, period.

When I was teaching college students I'd get asked have you ever heard of Pink Floyd my partner who also taught college student would get the same question. Brings back a great memory. It's June 1974, this album is coming out TODAY, and my music junkie buddy just HAS to pick it up on 8-track for his truck TODAY. We go to 3 or 4 record stores, all already sold out! Finally he finds one with ONE copy left in stock, buys it, returns to the truck, slides it into the player, and seconds later, as was common with 8-track and cassette tapes - the player munches the tape and it's destroyed. He was SO mad! But he was so right in being so anxious to want this debut album - it was incredible.

There are even a few voice teachers and coaches, the occasional opera singer, and a whole "buncha" people just listening and trying to hustle a few bucks. You are the ONLY one I can count on to deliver a true critique every single time. You have no peer that I have ever discovered. You don't approach it as one who is telling us whether you like any particular genre or style. You offer an honest critique, complete with technical observations and explanations that are 'waay beyond my ability to know or judge. Nor do I pretend to know. I'm not a musician or a singer. Like most folks, I know whether I like to hear something or not. But YOU know your craft inside out and I really admire you for that. You're one of a kind and I thank you!
