I will stay loyal to Honda for all my life. I drove a few of them and NEVER had a problem with them. Reliable, affordable and fun to drive. Best brand for me.
Test drove it, now ordered it. Best car I’ve driven in years, very fast, very comfortable and roomy. Great thing about any Honda, is the tech works, it’s stable at any speed and this one’s feels luxurious.
@@spjones463 It’s well worth the wait ! Picked up a cancellation, it’s an Elegance and has everything you need! Still on the waiting list for an Advance though 😂
Yes now loving Hondas again!! Taking a break from liking Toyota and VW. Prev gen looked too much style. But regular previous Civic hands down, looks quite mature. So as the original 2012 Civic, I like how it was just having styling cues of a Civic.
I love the way it has the profile of a saloon, especially at the front. I wish car design would return to traditional hatchbacks, saloons and estates. So much better looking than all the crossover blobs.
I've had mine for a month and 4 days. I've put 6100km on it in that time and I've loved every minute of it. Driving motorway speeds, I get 57mpg (4.8L/100km). A 420mi run from Madrid to Gibraltar at 110km/h on the motorways and 50mph on the "A" roads here (A-7) and I used ~33L of petrol. Brilliant car to drive and great fun on the twisty roads.
@@theweeknd2725 very easy to live with. Turning circle isn't brilliant, but you get used to it. I like the looks of it, doesn't look as busy as the Mk10
Hey! Looking to buy one aswell, can you please tell me about the interior build quality? And also a question which i haven’t seen been answered would be : can the battery be exhausted as in an electric car? Like what happens then? You have to replace it? Thanks!
@@exdakira hello! The interior build quality is excellent. I couldn't comment on the battery degredation as I haven't read too much into it, but having seen 15 year old hybrids still out on the road, you should be ok.
@@exdakira The engine build quality is very good and I am sure the battery will last for a long long time before any wear & tear (judging from the mk10 civic which I already own and it's already a superb car, this mk11 is definitely even better), when it comes to build quality I went to Honda's beautiful showroom and sat inside this car.. Yup.. It feels literally like an Audi inside it's so superb! It might be a much simpler interior then my car and streamlined simpler looks, but it looks hella clean and clever eith how all the things are placed. Build quality itself is definitely next level, competing with Mazda and other premium competitors. It's 100% a car to go for (best value for money yet)
I love that Honda is going back to the simpler look, it shows the original creativity that they had put in their older cars and this one looks really amazing and the color is just creamy and nice
I’m still amazed when I watch a review these days and see things like base civics costing £30k. Guess I’m still stuck in 2007 when a civic type r was £16k brand new 😅
It would not be something so bad if people earn 3 times more until than. But for some it could be difference of only some hundreds but car prices went crazy
I am used to driving SUVs . When my suv got bumped and landed in claim i borrowed my father's civic. I just love it. It is so so smooth to drive the pickup is so smooth. You feel like a snake while zipping past the cars. Due to sudden surge in crossovers and suvs in my county. It is sad to see people missing out on this absolute beauty of a car. I decided to keep it a little longer and exchanged it with my father. It is an aboslute joy to drive this car.
The new Honda Civic looks a little bit less aggressive than previous generation Honda Civic but it looks more cooler and sportier than the previous generation Honda Civic! I love the design of the new Honda Civic!
@@manuelight 6th gen coupe is legendary, even though I have a hatchback from the 6th generation lineup I still want a coupe someday, in the SI electron blue paint.
The 1.5 T had it's share of oil dilution problems. But Honda sorted that out by now. It's common sense that any of those tiny, turbo charged engines will not run forever like the naturally aspirated ones used to. But Honda gives you an option of 2.0l NA for this car which is what I would go for.
The new Civic is amazing and i can’t wait for the Type R to be available. Im actually surprised at how fast this new one came to Europe. I thought Honda isn’t particularly successful here. At least where i live. I would definitely consider buying the Type R when it’s available.
@@italianjob4947 my car is 4 years old now, the claim made no reference to price and I’d expect in 4 years that progress is made. What I’m getting at here is that it’s not exactly crazy but hey ho. Enjoy the civic if you buy one. I had an EP3 type R that never let me down once.
I found it interesting that the UK gear selector is buttons, because the US version shows a traditional gear selector. And I have to admit, the buttons looks much more open and modern. Also, the US version does nor get a hybrid yet. I don't always see the logic in car manufacturers' market specific choices. I have owned 8 Civics in my life, and this model seems more mature without being stuffy. Maybe it should be number 9? Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9. (The Beatles - Revolution 9)
It has vents for the rear seats because of the button shifter. Every honda is hybrid or electric in the UK. They get a few better features like matrix headlights too. I have the 6m and the shifter is amazing. But I think I like the UK setup better. I'm hoping it will come in a hybrid integra later. Trade mine in. Like other Hondas I've had, I end up liking them too much.
Sport touring 1.5t owner from the states here, amazing car. I do wish the top trim got some of the bits from this euro variant like the pano roof, rear vents, and driver’s lumbar adjustment but the car has been absolutely fantastic so far
@@Dranzell it’s actually one of the less reliable engines from Honda due to oil dilution. So I actually prefer this. Faster more economical and no CVT gearbox
Same. I like the matrix lights too. The led are nice but they have a better package. I hope we get a hybrid integra with these features. The button shifters allow vents for the back seats.
That is stepping into the boundaries of quick. There are plenty of feckwits these days that are too influenced by Forza and what some car journalists say and would say something which does 0 to 60 inbetween 6 and 7 seconds is slow. I'd be surprised if a lot of them had owned something that quick let alone been a passenger in something like that.
That's indeed not bad. It's crazy how nowadays Family eco friendly cars are Almost as fast as the early gens Civic Type R. The EP3 and FN2 take like 6 - 6.5sec. And those really don't feel slow at all.
My last couple of cars have been German. But I've had fantastic experiences in the past with Honda. Incredible build quality. Legendary reliability. I will probably go back to them again in the future.
5 years ago Matt was excited about car reviews, now he does them as in " Meh I'm used to better and luxurious car than this pos..." Bring back the car enthusiasm Matt !!
Doubt it. The engine doesn't change gears, because there's no need. No gearbox either. The engine is probably running at constant rpms, slightly varying at times so that it generates more power. So no, that's not how the engine sounds when generating current, sorry. The fake sound is just fake and ridiculous. EDIT: Maybe the sound at the end, where he does 0-60 can be real or at least could make sense. It just sounds like a CVT, going up in rpms and staying there. Not particularly enjoyable to listen to.
@@mircea5013 indeed the sounds it made when driving around were all fake and did not match what the engine was actually doing. The accurate sound was when he did the 0-60 runs. It sounds like a CVT because when you floor it the ECM just tells the engine to sit at peak power RPM. It's actually more responsive than a CVT because you don't have to wait for the "cones" in the gearbox to move around. Probably why the 0-60 times are very impressive for a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine in a sizable car.
@@mircea5013 The thing is that the sound is augmented in the sport mode through speakers, sounds a bit silly I'll give you that. However on normal and eco the sound is purely from the engine, it goes up and down on rpm's to simulate gear changing, "gearbox" is fake but sound is 100% real - for my taste much better than the fake sport one.
Actually a fantastic car. Simple, useful and good interior choices. But it looks sporty. Only thing i’d change is the behind of the car, its better than the previous model but not quite there yet
Previous model looked better especially the Claw rear lights, used to stand out nicely in night time! I think the previous civic just stood out much more, and was really sporty looking and beautiful in person. Let's see how this one goes to be, definitely looks a bit more bland but clean tho
The 10th gen hatch was pretty awful with those huge fake grills. However the 10th gen sedan's back is a thing of beauty. I love the back of the 10th gen sedan (i just recently got a 10th gen civic ex sedan, 2020 with just 17k miles on it). I don't know why they screwed up the hatch version of the 10th gen. They should have just kept the sedan's backing for the hatch.
I test drove the sport model a couple of weeks ago and loved it ,it's ample quick enough for what it is and drives great . The only thing was the price so think I'll wait a couple of years and buy 2nd hand 👍
I've owned Toyotas and Hondas. In my experience Hondas are more reliable, have fewer problems over the long run, are better priced, have a solid feel and drive. Also I think the dealers are better.
I have had Hondas for 23 years (4 Accord 2.4s and a Civic Prestige).all totally reliable. Took delivery of a Civic e:HEV Advance (the subject of the review) 3 weeks ago and I am loving it. It took a week or so to get used to the fully auto hybrid system but now it is great.
You have the better package. I'm in the USA and have the 6m. I like the button for shifters, you get vents in the backseat, matrix lights and better sunroof. The grip is wild on this car. I hope they make an integra hybrid with these features.
I actually like the fact that right now Honda uses the old-school USB ports, because as of right now most chargers are still have USB-A to Lightning/ USB-C cables. Also, when the most chargers become USB-C to lightning/ USB-C, they can just change it in the newer models for less than £1/ car
Most use USB-C to USB-C or Lighting now, the USB-C port can offer up to 100w of charging and power delivery. Your USB-A port is extremely relative to that. For the everyday man, this means the fastest charging speeds.
@@AxemanMessiah as if the car can give 100w charging. No. Recently, a lot of ppl I know and even I got brand spanking new phones. (Abt. 8 ppl.) All but one have A to C chargers
@@whotf888 thats your friend group, not everyone. USB-C has capability to 100w, but doesn't mean it needs to be. 30w is great and also will open up other accessories. Don't get hostile lol
I like how they used an Audi S8 (I think) to film the review of the Honda Civic 😂. The new civic is a whole lot more sensibly designed though, which is a fresh breath of air!
it will be very reliable, the design they use has LESS wearing parts than a conventional drivetrain. Also naturally aspirated engine with 2l displacement.
This is the review that got me to but my civic and i love every moment driving it. So easy, so reliable, so interactive, everything is just so 1 with me.
Looks like a late 80's/90's Japanese sedan particularly the front with its long & low hood and slim lights & grille. I love the interior esp. the dash it looks expensive!
The over quoting 0-60 time (quoted more time than real) thing is what Honda has always done with their hybrids. I think the quoted 0-60 time is what’s achieved in the eco mode. The reason your 2nd run took longer is likely that it’s run the battery down in your earlier attempt
they did it actually with normal cars too.. my mk8 1.8 5d Civic is rated at 8.9s but I got even 8.3s easily, not as big of a difference but still... And I am not an amazing sports driver and mine is manual
You're a physical knob, Matt, and that's why we love you! Messing about aside, this seems like a step back to the styling cues of the FK, but with a modern twist! That driveline is trick too, I'm shocked hybrids haven't adopted the 'diesel/electric' locomotive approach. I do recall Rover (when still in charge of the R50 Mini project) did look into an indirect petrol/electric drive train. I wish it had come to be as it would have sidestepped the crap range of electric cars back in the day and still got good economy. P.s. I love the way it 'sounds'. Would be great if you use any engine sound from a detroit diesel to a 90s Renault V10 F1 engine 😂
Damn you Mat, now I really want one. If my CR-Z ever kicks the bucket, I'm getting one. I love the looks, I love the technology and now you've confirmed it's good to drive I'm sold!
Nice review👍 For some people the new Civic might be more economical than an electric car driving few miles per year or a plug-in hybrid car driving many. Therefore the new Civic with is strange motor combination still makes sense in 2022 even dough it’s a bit expensive. But as we all know quality has its price. For me the new Civic is an absolute dream car I would love to have in my garage
I love this color! Rear end looks a little weird although it's much better than the old one. The only version of this generation civic that's being sold in my country is the 4-door sedan and I think the sedan rear end looks a lot better.
This is a very well thought out well engineered car and is one of the best in class. Yes it is an expensive car, but if this car was an Audi, VW or Mercedes with all the technology this Honda has, then Matt would not be complaining about price and would say in summary just go ahead and buy it. I would have the new Honda Civic over any German or French rival. A great car and will prove to be very reliable and a great long term buy. Well done Honda.
Today I got phone call from local Honda dealer who wanted to schedule a test drive with me. The guy told me that if I ordered now, the waiting time is 12 months. Months. That's the throughout on the manufacturing side. I'm located in Poland.
Most reviewers don't talk about the Spaciousness for a compact sedan like the civic, this is the only car with best leg room in its class. Nothing even comes close. In comparison Mazda 3, Toyota corolla feel smaller
I’ve had 4 standard size internal doors in my 2017 civic. Seats down much flatter than a Focus. You can get a road bicycle in no issues. Main gripe of a 2017 is the ABS sensors failing usually in wet weather. Just had my second one changed in 9 months. Puts all the sensors into amber mode. Too many sensors on modern cars. I get 50mpg in my 1L. Goes very well 👌🏻 I commute 50 miles per day.
@@razumikhim lol I know mate, I have the option to trade it in for the new one and just wanted to see if the new one hasn’t sacrificed some stuff I love about my current civic.
My wife has black one. Sport version. She used to drive X diesel Elegance. She didn’t want to change because no manual transmission but after 😅week said “auto” is better. XI looks more exclusive than previous - design and materials inside. Suspension is more quiet and better. Closing door, indicators sound give higher class feeling (in my CR-V worse!). Acceleration wow! Feeling better than Civic X 1,5 CVT I used to drive for few years. Fuel consumption 5,2 on 25 km mixed way (60% city, 40 local village road). Once I could reach 2,9 l/100 km in a city. Has not tested on highway yet. Some minuses are: fuel cup you need to unscrew, no indicator for windshield fluid low level, radio sound quality, can hear tires to much.
OMG, this Honda really is a surprising one. This is the first time that I have wanted one instead of the Type R. Never thought it would come to that before. An absolute bargain of a deal.
Its a uk Government thing, all new cars from 2030 have either got to be pure electric or hybrid .So they're gradually phasing out petrol and diesel vehicles.
just went to a test drive with this car...and the crawling does make the brakes squeak. funny how accurate Matt's reviews are. overall and FANTASTIC car to drive and damn it goes quite well. Suspension is extremely good for such a car and it also stays very flat. the only ? for me is the ground clearance, a bit too low, but I'll see. The only weird thing were the windows. When they raise they have a very sudden action and when they reach the top it feels very rough. anyways
I keep going back to it - Honda is one of a few manufacturers that still makes a proper Right Hand Drive Vehicle. Obviously it's because it's Japanese but look at the latest Toyota Corolla - they stick in the Left Hand Drive Stereo in the UK built cars, possibly as a cost saving, as all Japanese built models have the Stereo controls on the right hand side. For the sake of a few extra pounds I'd gladly pay it for a proper RHD model for my car where the handbrake/ebrake, stereo controls and bonnet release are where they're meant to be - by the driver, not the passenger. It's definitely my OCD but I wish car reviewers would highlight this more often. The only time Ive ever seen it is when the biggest offenders such as Renault and Peugeot don't move their fuse boxes so the cubby is small. Please CarWow Save me !
Absolutely love it. The only thing missing is a VTec mode and of course the R badge that we're looking forward to. Even this version will be very tempting to swap an MPV to considering the space and the fun to drive aspect with the looks even sounds pretty good on the outside as well, As Matt says Honda engineers are geniuses and do actually listen to the customers.
I 2nd everything you just said. If by some miracle I can fit my xl bike in with the seats down. Then it will be hard to say no. (coming from a current mpv/suv owner)
@@AM-zq8ro I could fit a 29" MTB in my 07 Civic no problem with the seats down. The access was actually wider/deeper and easier than my A4 Avant estate.
Ahhh been looking for this comment, there is a new E-Tec mode, lots of torque and shove. See Matt's smile when he accelerates! This is basically an electric car with a petrol range extender. Honda pulled a blinder!
Last year the base model for the previous generation costed about 25 000 euros. This year the base version of the new model starts from 35 000. True one is 1.0 liter 129hp and the other 2.0 liter 160hp but still. Manufacturers are axing the affordable cars.
Just received my Sport Touring in pearl white three days ago here in Canada (made in the UK). Key differences in Canada from the UK versions: we get a gear stick (either manual or CVT), a top option of a 1.5 turbo at 180hp that beats all it competitors in fuel efficiency, the head lining and entire interior is black but standard size sunroof not pano sunroof, steering and rear seats have heating but no rear vents, Bose speakers at the top trim, no fake plastic exhausts (Crome cut outs instead). Before taxes and delivery.. the top trim was billed to me right under 37000CAD before my Honda royalty discount. I’d say we got the better end of the stick :)
Your car is still using the older engines of the 10th gen civic, both are available here on the mk10 hatchback 1.0 Turbo & 1.5 VTEC Turbo with 182 bhp. I think the european model is definitely a lot more advanced compared to american versions, and ofcourse more fuel efficient (big difference) to normal combustion you got in canada. Sad that you weren't able to get this advanced and performancy updated industry competitive e:HEV system, and better specs in UK for the same price too (further researched, developed and tested for europe therefore this Civic released a year or two later then america) but the manual is always a joy to use. 😉 Still have the mk10 civic turbocharged vtec in manual, and it's a perfect manual. Fun to use, very sporty and gripping (more sportier than the mk11 from all respects) and great to drive too.
Canada 🇨🇦 here - 1.5 turbo with 6 spd manual - not the fastest car out there but man do I love it! Snick snick chunk chunk - the sound and feel is way better than the emotor fakery. Luckily I can afford the gas since I don't drive far.
There is not a CVT gearbox in this car, indeed no gearbox at all. CVT in this car stands for continuous variation of torque which is the level of electric current (ampere) being sent to the electric motor.
@@pd.dataframe2833 not anymore it used to be an entry level model but it's evolving and is no longer the first rung of the ladder. I think the entry level models are used to test the waters.
I love my 2022 Honda Civic Sport Touring hatchback. Best Civic I’ve ever owned. Only downside is the numerous Honda Sensing issues. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
The system isn't as weird as you might think. It's used on locomotives since long ago, they're called diesel electric. When running on a non-electrified railway, the diesel engine acts as a generator to produce electric current that powers the electric engine. The locomotive can also draw power directly from the power grid and act as a pure electric one, having its diesel turned off when not needed. Going back to cars - for generating electricity, the combustion engine is usually set up to run in Atkinson cycle, instead of Otto. Don't know about this model in particular, but I guess it's the same. You basically have an electric car, but you're generating your current from fossil fuels. If it seems stupid, not really as there are quite a few benefits: should be quite silent, and it will always run at optimal rpm, so that it's always as efficient as possible. If it would run as a classic engine, the efficiency would vary greatly, depending on how the car is driven and how gears are changed. Also, the engine's wear should be lower. Now, it's true that it still matters how you drive it, as a heavy foot would require more current and the engine would need to feed on more gas. But, nevertheless, it's still more efficient this way. I guess that at higher speeds the engine starts powering the wheels directly, because electric engines stop being efficient at that point. The bad part is the system gets quite complex. Also the fake engine sound is horrible decision. Hope you can turn that shit off. Have real engine sound or don't try to fake it.
Brilliant car. Rides really well-better than my current Audi A4 Avant Black edition. Interior quality is on par with German built cars- better than their entry level models. Handles so well like a Go-Kart. The high efficient MPG is amazing. It so good that I brought one after 40 min test drive.
It's a reverse hybrid, Opel did that with the Ampera years ago. It works, you can have a small capacity petrol engine with better mileage, makes better sense. To me at least. And you get the solution in a Honda, which means that you will basically trade in the car for a wheelchair when you get really old, and the new owner will still enjoy it.
In my country, the new civic comes with a 1.5 turbo VTEC CVT, and also has a proper gear shifer, and looks a little different than this one. Personally I prefer the auto stick shifter instead of the buttons. But this one looks better IMO.
I watched the Civic vid this morning. Love the car. I had 4 Civics so far, one being the previous gen. At 13:34 you pulled out to overtake the camera car around a corner, which was dangerous. I saw cars passing you-so no closed course there
I love it and I've ordered one. Feature for feature I think the price is OK when you compare it to a peugeot 308 or vw golf, particularly with the more premium feel of the new model.
I've been waiting for this review As for the verdict, I'd just go ahead and buy it, especially since I'm sure that I wouldn't be changing it for another car (and it would be super reliable)...except for the Type R obviously 😉
I think it might because of the current economy but the Civic is nearly or is the most expensive car in its segment if not the most expensive car in its segment. It's still very popular here in the states but they are no doubt pushing many buyers away. And then despite being the biggest market they really cheaped out for us with features. Only the top of the line model gets foglights, and then I don't think the option for rear vents is ever a option. And several other features.
