Please watch till the end! There's a message about what we're doing with this channel I want you to see.... Here's Another project with the 74 Camaro... I had a great comment from a guy that begged me not to cut it up if it was a true Z28. It's not... so I'm-a-choppin! paintucation.c... has all kinds of videos if you want to DIY your own paint and body projects, and this Camaro will probably feed some new streaming videos. Thanks for watching!!! Lotsa great stuff coming !!!

Hi Kevin. I take it, that I wasn't alone thinking,that while removing the hood,it fell in the direction of the windshield and looked like that broke the windshield? I did look it,I watched it again, but forgot to look for cracking before hood removing. Need a left hand man??

I just had to cut up a "one of 66" Pontiac model. It had gotten too rusted and damaged to be saved. And I had an identical donor vehicle to drop the Mechanicals into. It was only a 78 Sunbird anyways so it's not like it was well known to anyone who likes the popular models. 129 V8s mated to the standard 4-speed transmission, we're dropped into Sunbirds in 1978 63 Coupe models and 66 hatchbacks. A few hundred more V8s made it into the chassis but they were made it to automatics. The V8 in the Chevy Monza was much more common however there weren't too many of those comparatively either

My first car was a burgundy 74 Camaro with a white vinyl top. I paid $700 for it. You could hear the rust crunching under the vinyl top when you pressed on it. I used to lose full quarts of oil out of the giant rust holes in the trunk. As a 16 yr old kid with no money or expertise, I couldn't fix it correctly. Now, at 59, I've built my dream garage in the back yard. You're Paintucation DVDs (the mullet series) have been invaluable. Keep up the good work!

I once talked with a highway patrolman, and he told me that those long heavy doors were a lifesaver on the low slung speedsters. He said he never rolled to a fatality on those old Camaros as long as the driver was seatbelted in. I once saw a Camaro when an 18 wheeler decided to park on one. The door kept the driver alive even though the full weight of the cab was resting on his door.

I can relate to this, when i started working in IT 30+ years ago, the old timers were IBM mainframe guys and would not share their knowledge with anyone. and i hated them for it, because they made my job harder than it had to be. I know most of them were worried that I was younger guy and had a passion for learning and that I would eventually replace them. I was ready to quit at one point, but my boss that told me you can't be promoted, if you can't be replaced, and those old IBM guys would retire in their same positions or become unemployed as main frames were being replaced with PC back in the 90s and in that in IT field everything changes in 5 years or less and if you are unwilling to learn or teach you will become redundant and unemployable in that field. Now I am the old guy and I try to pass on everything i have learned to my team, and still try to keep up with what's new and i have learn a bit from my younglings as well.

The technical stuff, I know it's most important, but it makes my eyes heavy and puts my head bobbin' like a student preacher in week long revival in July. I like how you put energy into your talks, (it keeps my attention) like someone that snorted rust in the 80s...LOL But MAN you talks fast. Down here in the south we're more like the Ents from Lord of the Rings stories, "If it's worth saying, it's worth taking a long time to say." But then, I guess that's what rewind (back up, go back, or whatever the kids call it these days) is for. LOL Your enthusiasm is infectious. And that's a good thing. I love the show and look forward to following the projects you have waiting in the wings.

So true on the doors. I got two from a salvage yard to add electric windows and locks to my 1976 Grand Prix. Those doors must have been 100 pounds a piece and salvage yard owner made the guys working there carry them by themselves. He said that's a one guy job.Had to rebuild the door hinges they would always wear out. I saw the the header panel come off a couple times but being an editor myself I know that can happen, so I didn't mention it. Thought you were going for the 80's music video remix stutter style. Getting back into car projects in my 60's after a long dealing with life hiatus. Love the format here. Kevin doing Kevin his way. Best of luck to him 'paying it forward' with the full time endeavor. That Picklex used in this vid is good stuff. Got turned onto it in Kev's old forum back in the day. My basketcase 69 restomod project in early 2000s sat in my garage for 4 years as I slowly worked on it without paint most of the time. No surface rust ever formed in that time where treated with that stuff.

8:40 Oh I know I just made a comment about 'genius' in the comment section, but hey when you have a good tip, why not share it? When I was a kid I painted a lot, whatever I hated it, but anyway my old man taught me this trick and I still use it to this day: on gallon cans, no matter the liquid, I take a nail and hammer and poke holes all around the inner rim. This way when I pour yeah it'll run down the outside if I go crazy, but if I think about it and pour slowly, the holes (if they're big enough) will drain back down into the paint can and I don't have to even wipe the rim before I put the lid back on. I only do it once, when I first open the can.. : )

I had a '74 Camaro and that was the car that I learned how to change the door bushings on. It was worth the effort as I changed them on my dads '75 ElCamino. The look on his face was priceless, I was at my FIL's house and had left the car in the front yard when we took the door off. Left it laying on a quilt in the yard. Took both hinges to FIL's shop in the back to clean up the hinges and installed the new pins and bushings. My dad showed up in the middle of that work and I was so proud to show him that I could fix his sagging door.

I'm a 43 yr old diy'er. The older I get the projects get smaller, although not any easier. In my 20s a current size project would take hours. Now it's days 😂

Totally relate to this. I used to yank cars completely apart in driveways and carports. Now that I'm older with a shop and 2 post lift, it somehow takes me longer and I hurt worse.

@@05milmachine90 yep. My sons and I would purchase a car every year fall. Work on it and flip it at tax season. We either used the funds for a family vacation or school clothes. Now they're 17 (identical twins) and have teenage boy brains. No more cars for now. And I'm flipping riding lawn mowers. Keeps me busy.

I had a 1975 Camaro I bought new with a four speed. What you were pointing at as the clutch Z-bar actually was the mechanism for the ignition interlock that forced you to put the transmission in reverse to take the key out of the ignition. They were a real pain in the butt since it made it easy with the stock Inland Tool Company shifter to lock the transmission in reverse and first. Most of disconnected them after a couple of lockups.

Gotcha...... call me NEW on the standard shift second-gen's. regardless, it was originally a 4 speed car, and we're gonna retrofit a 5 speed TKX into it if I have my way.

Kevin, I bought your videos over six years ago and I can't tell you how much they helped me and gave me the confidence to do my first frame off restoration of my 1971 Camaro. I've now collected four more older Chevy cars to restore and I'm currently working on a 1969 Nova with my son. Thanks again Kevin you're the man!

Hey KT ! Greetings from back home in BC , I’m loving this build. It takes me back to the Zed Sled build which I followed episode by episode. It was a great tool as I was building my pro touring LS powered 68 Cougar at the same time. I’d watch an episode and it was like you were saying “go do this” 😂.

I'll take what I can get on this channel, Kevin. I've been a fan since the "Trucks" days, and it's great seeing you doing what you do, and having fun doing it. The quirks and editing errors are part of the fun for me, and I'll follow the Camaro build no matter how long it takes (heck, how long did it take for the Bad Obsession guys to build a Mini?!?)

Thank you for pointing out the mid year change on the '74 Been looking for a 3rd Gen Camaro but most of them are terrible or they want too much money. I don't mind the 2nd generation but the early models are not cheap. It's good to see you working on it! I'm excited to see what you have coming to video. I've been a fan of you since "Trucks". Stupid question, I know.... Why did you not do the entire roof in the epoxy primer? I understand it was in good shape I was just curious if there was any benefit to doing vs not. 49 and still trying to learn, thanks for the GREAT content!!
@paintucation
@paintucation 4 месяца назад
I do plan on scuffing the other part of the inner ( the outer part of the inner?) and spraying a coat of some primer or paint before I re-skin the roof.... I suppose I could have just coated the whole thing with epoxy, kinda had tunnel-vision at the time, but great question! Short answer... I'm kinda short-sighted sometimes... LOL!

Content is excellent, even though you move from project to project. Have a 96 caprice that has some rusty bits that I need to address, so your entry was perfect (I've got an 04 LS goat motor and 6 speed sitting next to me ;)).. Which brings me to the Miata, looking at that as the next project to teach dear daughter to beat on it. Subscribed

Kevin, just put out the video's that you can bud. I've been here for a long time and when you have new content I watch it. Bodywork isn't my thing but watching you keeps me grounded. When I watch your videos it helps me to remember what lane I'm supposed to be in so that when I try your lane and I suck at it, it's ok, because I'm not a body guy. 😆 Anyway, keep putting up progress on your projects. It's good for me to watch them while I work on my own junk. Thanks dude!

I used to enjoy your weekend shows on Spike but I have to be honest. I enjoy your RU-vid episodes so much more because you're work on unprepared, crusty stuff and don't just explain what needs to be done then cut to it being finished. Half of the value is learning how to deal with unexpected problems that crop up on real cars. I've always felt that traditional TV show production is also too restrictive in that in discourages jumping around to other projects. RU-vid is great for non-linear viewing.
