Hey Devin, I’m lovin’ my new Waymark EMBR 60! Rides like a dream, even at 30+ pounds. The real test is whether my body can handle all that weight! I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to talk me through all my questions prior to purchase. I looked at a lot of packs before making this important decision, including the Durston Kakwa 55, the ULA Circuit and Catalyst, and the Seek Outside Flight 2. You have a customer for life!

Nice. I dig the cup. There's certain items that have come with me since my first trip. I still love my small ground tarp/welcome mat from a Coleman Sundome tent. If I ever lose it, I may have to buy another tent 😂. I'm starting to bring the Fozzils Snapfold Bowl XL. It's pretty big. I imagined using it as a cutting board/wash basin/campfire water bucket. It ended up making a nice light diffuser/storage bucket in the tent.

I was just 9 days of hiking (145 km) in Lapland Finland. My base weight 8.3 kg plus food 6 kg. This is the lightest what I have managed to do so far. More I have hiked more I have understood what I need and what I don't need.
@AJHart-eg1ys
@AJHart-eg1ys 10 месяцев назад
I did 37# up and down Mount Whitney over the course of 4 days. It wasn't the lightest, but I had an Atmos 65 and its system made it bearable. In my opinion, people spend way too much time worrying about the weight of what they bring and the weight of their packs. If a pack weighs 2# more but makes the weight you're carrying feel 10# less, I think it's worth investing in the technology.

This is super cool. I'm really into tenkara angling and never camped but backpacking seems awesome for getting into those head water streams or staying overnight near the small meadow streams I hike into in the Uintas.

I'm feeling much better now. I'm at 32lbs 11oz + water (6lbs) with a very heavy (relatively speaking) Mystery Ranch Bridger 65, Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 and an MSS Patrol Bar, Thermarest XTherm and Sea To Summit Aero Pillow + an SOL Bivvy for my big three. If I swapped out my pack for my ridiculously cheap Amazon 33oz "Free Knight Trekking 60" pack and my MSS Patrol Bag for my Costco Quilt, I'd slash an easy 3lbs 12oz off of that weight, BUT...I could live with that. This kit is good down to 22 degrees. My luxury items are what are killing me on the other end. With the Cook Kit I'm good (Toaks 750ml pot & 450ml cup, MSR Pocket Rocket 2, 100g fuel, etc...). But I'm also rockin' that Big Agnes Skyline UL Chair and a good 2lbs in an Admin Kit (notebook, a couple fo books, pen, pencil, etc...). That's 3lbs 12oz too coincidentally. If I went light with no comfort items, I'd save 7lbs 8oz. Screw it though...I have both an X and a Y chromosome. I can hump that 38lbs (w/4 days food & water). 😊

Beautiful location! And you look like you’re genuinely enjoying yourself in the process! Love it. Regarding the Flextail Repel, I would encourage everyone to do some reading up on the main insecticide ingredients, prallethrin and meperfluthrin. I’m a bit concerned about the potential impact on bees, fish and amphibians if these products become mainstream in the wilderness. And there’s some early indications that mosquitos could build a resistance over time. Nothing is blatantly conclusive about these chemicals in an aerosolized form at personal use levels, but worth considering from a leave-no-trace perspective.
@BackcountryExposure

Thanks! I’m gonna research this.

Good topic here. When I went to buy bug spray before my trip in WA last month, I had to laugh at all the bug spray labels that had 70-85% "other ingredients" I bought some just incase but didn't end up using it. The mosquitos weren't that bad and I just didn't want to spray unknown chemicals on my skin or put them in a water source.

I really want a Quasar 3D sleeping pad with the insulation they use in the Tensor pads. The Quasar 3D pads are more comfortable for me, but they are heavier than the Tensor pads and they have a lower R value.

I haven't seen a comparison between the Nitecore EMR06 and the Flextail Tiny repel. Would love to hear your feedback on them. Which one do you like better and is more effective? Appreciate you being the guinea pig!
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 8 месяцев назад
I like the Tiny Repel a little better cause you've got space for two pads and so more coverage. The EMR06 works well for just a small area/personal use. But I think the Tiny Repel is just a better option. I haven't had extensive use with them yet though, so I can't speak really well to how effective they actually are. But the times I have used them, they do seem to help keep the bugs at bay.

My memory solution comes with a gravity feed system and it has charcoal filter. The big game changer is you can buy filter rebuild kits. Best filter I’ve found especially the price. I don’t understand how anyone can pay that for a tent. I use a 3x3 tarp and a bug net . Seems like this display is all about labels. I will say Sawyer is the best bug juice. After being burned on 60% of my body I can’t use deet it burns me. Really I gotta give the man slack he does carry a chair. Anyone smart enough to bring a chair can’t be all bad.
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 11 месяцев назад
You could argue that for a lot of things in life. Why would someone spend $80,000 on a truck? It’s just the tool they chose to spend their money on. You can build a house with a hammer, but you can also build it with a nail gun. 😊👍🏻

I'm prepping for a week long hunting trip in October and I've pared down my entire gear minus my worn clothes to 49.89 pounds weapon included. Without the weapon for my 4 day scouting trip I'm at 36.06 total weight. I want to go down to a trekking pole tent but just can't get there because we stay at a single camp and taking my tent down before sunset to be able to take my trekking poles on the hike outs for glassing and what not just isn't something I want to do. Only other thing I think I could shave significant weight with is my pack, but again I need the ability to haul out 50-60lb loads if we happen to be successful while also not getting a really nice pack messy.

38 lbs for a 4-day trip in Summer? Why would you do that to yourself? That’s torture.

No longer owned by Walmart. Dicks Sporting Goods purchased them. But sorry you had a poor experience though. I know their goal is to not be in business to frustrate people.

@@BackcountryExposure just a joke, bc of the channel names. There is another RU-vidr call “name” outdoors, so better to call you Devin indoors 😮😂. Makes more sense as you expend of your time indoors anyway not outdoors.
