A similar thing is occuring now where Yellen ( a democrat) is selling an insane amount of short term t-bill (with a higher yield) instead of long term treasuries so they can fund the government more (which is the only thing keeping up the jobs report)

Only in retail investing and the like. There aren’t actually a lot of incentives to make those sorts of predictions. If you are working at an investment company and frequently bet on market downturn, you will frequently underperform and soon be fired. If you’re right once, you will get a pat on the back - maybe a book deal if you’re lucky.
Atrioc himself has been saying we’re due for a recession/crash for like two years. I’m a fan and I think there are concerning data points, and I don’t want to lump in Atrioc with those who “have no idea what they’re talking about”, since he’s operating off real data, it seems his instincts are more pessimistic than is warranted.
@@AcornFrog it’s not that he’s pessimistic, but optimistic. The economy has been due for a recession for a while now, but the government prints money and gets debt to avoid this recession. The sooner it happens the better. All data points towards and recession and right now all that keeping the US from a recession is: Nvidia and Microsoft and apple ( they had 7%, while the average stock was -1.6%) and the government printing money and taking on debt (34 trillion $). Also, it’s important to note that the US currency was weaken a lot when most countries stop using the USD to trade oil. The US can’t take on infinite debt like it could in the past.
A anecdotal thing to think about with the job reports, I have many recent college graduate genz friends who picked up a part time job at Wingstop while applying their first real job ( a 6-12 month process). If you got laid off and picked up a few shifts at Taco Bell or Uber in between jobs, I would personally count that as unemployed, but the numbers will say “has a job, economy is great!”
My gf has over 6 years of retail experience and isn’t getting any responses (not even negative ones) from the entry-level jobs she's been applying to. Shit sucks.
I went to a recruiting event recently where 100's of people were just waiting in a line and hoping to hand in their resume and maybe get an interview to work at a new hospital as a receptionist. Shits cooked. Every hiring event I went to from the handshake platform has been like this.
Job market is atrocious right now, I’ve been looking for a job for 2 months, applied to over 50 positions with a college degree, full resume, references, and a cover letter for most applications and probably only received 4-5 messages back asking about an interview. Finally found a job that is in my industry but below the pay level I should have for my experience.
Not to contradict your experience but I’ve had recruiters proactively reaching out to me and the places I interviewed at were on hiring sprees and were desperate to hire me. Job market is the best it’s been for me in the past decade.

If the unemployment rate is only people that are seeking jobs, and we have a significant amount of people that are living with their parents, does that not account for a significant amount of Americans? Thus perhaps we have a large amount of Employment Ghosters.
Big A! Do you listen to Marketplace from NPR at all? Would you ever do a both-ways interview with Kai Ryssdal? I think that would be amazing segments on both Marketplace aswell as a way to have more economic content on stream. If you don't listen to it, it's basically a radioshow/podcast about (primarily) north american economic headlines, and they regularly do small segments on niche jobs; running a piece on content creation sounds like it would be an easy in.
The idea that you can't tell that whether the revision is going to be up or down more seems like a good thing instead of bad. If they consistently revised in one direction then they would consistently be doing the same thing wrong. Obviously, whats more important is by the amount the tend to revise the number by. If the number changes by large margins every time then that would speak more volumes to a problem with the statistics. For march they revised down 133k jobs, a change which is only 1.5% off their original estimate.

I don't think Joe has an economy lever he pulls to make the economy work good but I do think the US government is bound to have some sort of gasket failure somewhere due to the sheer economic pressure(20 Trillion debt) and political division(Worst since Civil War and Congress/House sit around doing nothing or passing huge unwieldy bills that encompass everything) that currently exist which makes it clear something has to give somewhere.
It has more to do with Fed monetary policy, and government spending. A TON of the new jobs this year have been government jobs. The government currently is spending about a trillion dollars in deficit every three months. So currently they are stimulating the economy more than when a certain thing happened 4 years ago. That's what people mean when they say "they won't let it crash". After the election whichever party wins might not be as worried about everyone being happy since they've already won and care less about the short term, maybe ease off borrowing debt and deficit spending to keep people employed. But nobody knows for sure what the fed and the government will decide in the future.
Things are getting pretty grim. There’s always been rise of homeless in California, however I’m starting to see homeless with only tents and new/ used cars under bridges where I live. I’m hoping for the best but I insist everyone have at the very least 3 months of emergency savings and 3 months of stored groceries.

One of the things I'm lost on is why people focus on number of jobs instead of quality/pay and sector in which jobs are gained. When electric street lamps became a thing, all the lamplighters lost their jobs. Terrible for the economy. See what I did there? Number of jobs is such a shitty, thinly-veiled obfuscation of the things that actually matter, which is what industries are growing and what they are actually, physically doing to further the advancement of technology/society.
Because the unemployment rate is a decent indicator of the strength of the economy as a whole due to its relationship to things like productivity, wages and inflation.

Between ongoing advancements in automation and the rise of AI, it is becoming more and more apparent that society simply has less need for this many human beings. There is simply not enough fulfilling work to go around. In this economic downturn almost the entirety of the private sector is tightening the belt, not expanding. Sure the government can always add jobs but that's not sustainable given the deficit spending fueled house of cards it already sits on. Factor in the increasing disenfranchisement of the younger generations and the unfortunate conclusion to draw is that there is a legitimate need for a population crash. Now don't get my words twisted, I am 100% NOT calling for a mass culling of the herd or anything of that nature. But the reality is that given that almost all of the developed world has been experiencing unsustainable birth rates for the last 5-10 years or so. A steep population decline is likely to happen in the coming decade or so, and once it runs its course there should be theoretically more resources, good jobs, and real estate to go around.
I disagree, I think the current economy is fairly arbitrary and we could easily scale it up or down quite a bit with effectively nothing changing. We do work for each other. More people is more demand. Also AI is currently creating way more jobs and productivity than it’s taking away. As someone that just got a job doing AI shit, there’s a lot more work that exists now that didn’t exist a few years ago.
@ilikeshiba AI will definitely create jobs, but the goal of most technological advancement is to net reduce the need for human labor. Automation created engineering, programming, and technician jobs but it eliminated far more unskilled assembly and warehouse jobs
